That car was called "Sucker Bet" and is now owned by a guy in Northern Illinois. I suspect he will have it at some shows yet this year as he bought it to drive AND show. He is a real car guy and has an awesome collection of muscle cars. Rommel- Nice job and now we wait for that Tow Truck to be finished! Nice details and great job on the body damage.

Verrrrrrrrrry nice work there and what a paint job! I have always liked these and have a couple of them to build....someday! I worked at a Buick dealer from '83-'84 just as the T-Types were coming out and remember taking one for a "test drive". A friend of mine offered me a deal on a leftover '87 GN that was hanging around in early '88 at dealer he worked for. I had just bought a new pickup and couldn't swing the second car payment. Besides, my truck was black and I was already cursing myself for buying that color vehicle and trying to keep it clean! Good luck on your search for a 1:1 later.

Nice color combo and I like the custom roll pan. One suggestion- add a black wash to the grille to give it some depth and realism.
-
That is very nice! All it needs now is a 50's era transport trailer and a load of cars headed to the dealer.

nice color combo and very shiny paint as the pictures show the reflection of the front tires! I have several of these to build (like so many others! ) and maybe I will get started on a few now that cooler weather is here. Thanks for posting!

I picked up Donn's how to video and plan to follow his techniques in it. I have tried using my airbrush on and off over the years and after talking with Donn at a show, it dawned on me that rushing through the process is what turned me off to using the airbrush! Like others have said, practice is the difference! 58 Impala- if you are buying a Paasche, see if there is a Hobby Lobby nearby. They have a 40% off coupon this week and the last time I checked, they had them in stock at $89.00, which after the coupon makes it about $53.00 . I might pick up another one just to have for clear coats.

Having lived in that area for 41 years, I got excited to see the pictures and wanted to say "Thanks Gerry!" for posting them. I went to Skip's for many years and remember cleaning out my garage of old car parts & tools and making $500 in about 4 hours 15 years ago at the swap meet. I really miss the car show portion of the event as there were always some really nice cars and just about every type you could think of! Thanks again and post more pics if you have them!

Custom Ford F1
mikemodeler replied to Agent G's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Wayne, While I have never chopped a top on a model or 1:1, I will agree with your observation that this body needs some sectioning to have "the look". That alone is probably why I have yet to chop a top as the whole process of chopping AND sectioning a body scares the heck out of me! I think as far as details go, yours has some nice ones and the color looks great. Maybe someday I can get around to completing some of my builds so I can post them up here! -
Chevy 454 1/25 Scale VS 427
mikemodeler replied to Len Woodruff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What about the L-88 engine from the '68 Vette by Revell? The '69 Yenko Camaro? I think any big block will do fine, it probably comes down to which one has the best accessories you are trying to replicate. -
something tells me that you will have some super detail in this 1:1 like you do in your models! Looks like you are taking the time to do it right and while I am sure you are anxious to get it done so you can cruise in it,putting quality parts and thought into it is important. Can't wait to see it done!

What's up with TDR?
mikemodeler replied to GrandpaMcGurk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Or how about a '32 Ford body- 3 or 5 window or roadster? -
Clay, Thank you for serving and re-enlisting, we need more like you. My son is a junior in HS and is in a JROTC Marine Corp unit. He is gung ho and has his sights set on joining after school. He spent a week at Camp LeJeune this summer and hopes to get down to Parris Island next year for another week of Leadership training/boot camp. Semper Fi and stay safe!

You stand a bigger chance of having your identity stolen from the doctor's office than from here. Your personal information is a public record- ever own a piece of property? apply for a loan? been admitted to a hospital? Think about all of the people who have seen that paperwork. For about $25 a year, I have identity theft insurance as part of my homeowners' policy and they will take care of any issues that come about of theft. For whatever reason, my seventh grade daughter brought home some paperwork from school today and they asked for her social security number. My wife wanted to know why they needed that information and I kiddingly replied that with all of the budget cuts, they must be planning on getting a credit card in her name to help pay the school bills!

The Big One
mikemodeler replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
With what these wrecker companies charge to fire up a rig like this I would be surprised to see them tow farther than the nearest shop or their storage yard. I have seen trucks being towed down the interstate but more likely they are the exception and not the rule. Sweet build going, any ideas on a color scheme yet? -
The Big One
mikemodeler replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
This should be another "Must Watch" build and I can only imagine what it will look like when finished! There are not that many wrecker builds and having watched how Rommel has started this one, I know why- they are not easy. I have complete confidence that this will have many custom features and innovations like his other builds. To echo Jim's question- Why would a wrecker need a sleeper cab? Is it for the longer wheelbase or the occassional trip? In watching the show "Wrecked", I only see the one truck with a sleeper, the rest are day cabs and they never show them towing long distances. Thanks for the build, I will be amongst the "watchers" !!! -
2010 Carolina Kustom Modelers show pics
mikemodeler replied to old-hermit's topic in Contests and Shows
Great show and I wish I could have spent more time and money while I was there. The models looked great and a nice bunch of vendors as well. Met Donn Yost and talked to him about his DVD and I bought one based upon our conversation. I plan to study it and use his techniques as I am ready to take my modeling to that level. Thanks for the pictures, it is great to see the models again. I will say that the paint jobs on the low rider models were outstanding and while it isn't my cup of tea, I do admire the builders' skills in laying down those many colors and designs! -
55 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop: WIP (Photos Restored)
mikemodeler replied to David G.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Not bad for a Pepto cruiser! I have one that I want to build but in pink/gray combo. I used a '55 to learn how to refine my foiling techniques, figured it was the best one to try it on. -
Revell 1968 Hemi Dart - They're Finished
mikemodeler replied to Len Carsner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is yet another build along that I have watched from the start. Whether or not I buy this kit, I appreciate the detail and explanation given as well as the tips from other forum members to ensure accuracy. Thanks to Len & Bill for taking time during their busy schedules to bring us this build up. I suspect there will be greater sales of this kit as a result of their efforts.Their previous posts on the several new releases are the reason why I have more model kits than the wife would like to see. I don't know if they get compensation beyond getting early releases of the kits but I can tell you they have earned it! I can't wait to see what they come up with next! Thanks again Len & Bill! -
Got my July issue yesterday..
mikemodeler replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I get my past due renewal in soon maybe I won't miss an issue! Where is that renewal notice???????????????? -
So I could renew my subscription and not miss an issue? I think the strained finances of the summer will prevent me from renewing my subscription for the time being. Sad, but reality hits and with the uncertainity of when an issue will arrive, it is one less thing for me to keep track of. Hopefully I will be able to re-up later this year.

Trendy kits = goodby original
mikemodeler replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw this topic and thought of the MPC Dodge Pickup kits we all built and want again that were turned into Monster Trucks. I know there are a bunch of kits we all miss but I guess it is probably going to be a swap meet or online vendor to the rescue! -
Depends on who you ask.................. My wife- Too many !!! My son- A lot !!! My friends- A bunch! Me- never enough. Over 300 at last count.
