  1. While i have yet to get my issue, I do agree with Bluesman Mark, 100 %. Sure hope it is as good as everyone is raving about as it seems like forever since the last issue.
  2. Looks great and the rake is just right. Nice custom touches and the pinstriping looks right at home. I think I am going to start painting all of my builds in primer- no polishing needed!
  3. No drugs or tissues needed here Erik. Gregg explained it all earlier and now I wait for the magazine. The point was made that Gregg has suffered a reocurance of his back problems, something most of us are aware of as it has been the cause of delays in the past. It was mentioned that someonecould have posted that information as the reason for the delay and all would have been fine. As someone who has subscribed from the beginning and endured delays before, I can assure you I don't shed tears over a late issue. I subscribe because my local hobby shops do NOT carry MCM, despite requests from several customers so I am left with subscribing or going without. Given the economy and personal finances, I struggled to renew my subscription this year but felt I could go without a few kits so I could have the magazine instead.
  4. Harry got me on the last one, but I am going with real. I think he has played with the picture, like getting the hubcaps perfect and that headrest seems out of place. The whitewalls almost seem "pasted" on. I will find out Friday.
  5. Got my popcorn and 44 oz. diet coke......waiting for the drama to start any time now! Until then, anybody got some good previews to watch????
  6. As a long time subscriber, I agree with Lee. I struggled to renew and my reward is a mag that is nearly 3 months late. Sorry to hear about the back problems but a simple post telling us sooner would have eliminated this post.
  7. Nice job there Ray, you captured the look of the damage and mud very well. I used to live near there and remember going to that racetrack many times. My wife's cousin ran sprint cars and modifieds there and won a few track championships over the years. I loved the racing but hated the dust flying, some nights it was hard to see the track! The first time I went I couldn't understand why nobody was sitting down low and close to the track until the first heat race and the mud went flying! By the time I could find a seat up high, I was covered in dust & mud! Hope all is well in K-town!
  8. i am sure all of the 2011 Camaro Convertibles will sell without any incentives from GM. The fact that these are being pre-sold at $75,000 will only help those dealers that are lucky enough to get one of these to sell at an inflated price. I remember years ago being in a Neiman Marcus store and a friend called it "Needless Markup" ! I think that would apply in this case, don't you?
  9. Sorry to hear you are moving soon, I had hoped to get down that way and try to meet you. My son is going to Parris Island next summer with his JROTC program from high school. I would go with Va. Beach as it is a nice area and as was mentioned, there is a model club and a decent Hobbytown USA nearby. A great area and tons of stuff to do. Of course there is a ton of stuff near Twentynine Palms, so the question becomes if you want to shake and bake in the desert or be oceanside? Good luck with the move and hope all goes well.
  10. Sent my renewal form and check in on 8/16/2010. Haven't seen a mag in nearly 2 and half months. Sure would like to know that one is coming soon. BTW- The Mustang looks great!
  11. Coming along nicely and should look good when done. I do have to say that the utility bed looks a little big versus the rest of the build. Maybe you are planning on scaling it down a bit? The bed sides seem to hang down, giving the impression that the wheel openings are out of porportion to the rest of the bed. Just my thoughts, not meant to be critical. I would love to be able to scratch build a bed like this but usually end up with a bunch of scrap plastic! Thank goodness The Modelhaus sells a resin utility bed!
  12. Rob, Congrats, 12 posts and not one begging for a list! Best of luck with selling the collection.
  13. Ian, A member by the screen name Aftashox (Rommell) mentioned that he mastered his late model Ford crew cab and had it cast in resin. He is very sharing with his skills and knowledge, maybe you can contact him and get some help. I bought a diecast Ford F-350 with the idea of trying to cast it but haven't saved up the cash for the resin just yet!
  14. Nice pics and thanks for sharing! That plow truck reminds me of my days living in Northern Illinois and it always seemed like the plow driver waited at the end of the street and once my driveway was clear, he would fill the end of it up! The only thing missing is mailbox snapped off of the post from the snow hitting it!
  15. Funny thing isn't it? (it really isn't ) The August/September magazine should be here soon, of course I heard that back in late August when I sent my check in for my renewal. Maybe Gregg can update us on the status as he is the last step before it goes to print. PS- the Mustang looks nice!
  16. Thanks for sharing the story and of your talents and knowledge. Nice display and beautiful models. I am sure Luke will treasure that one you built for him and it will serve as a reminder of how great his trip was. What an honor to be invited to the factory and be included in the festivities!
  17. Nice job pairing the two up! Is that the recent re-issue of the 4300 Transtar Tractor? I have been thinking about picking it up for a kit bash project that is rolling around in my head. I like the color, not many dump trucks painted black, usually red or orange.
  18. Rob, I remember reading about someone who had the same situation several years ago, a serious automobilia collector that had rooms full of stuff to get rid of. I believe Scale Auto did a write up on it, or maybe I read it online, not sure. If I remember correctly, they brought in a company that specialized in estate sales of this type of product so they could accurately appraise the value of what was being sold. They then held an auction where anyone could bid on the items that had been assmebled into "lots" to speed up the process. Not sure of the timeframe your Uncle is working on, but if he has time, it would be best to divide his collection up into lots instead of selling kits individually or one whole lot. Much like a car, it is far cheaper to buy one fully assembled from the sales department at the dealer than to buy the pieces from the parts department! Keep in mind that someone who might be interested in the magazines might not want the models and the other way around. The first step is to inventory what you have- kit number, maker, description, condition, quantity- and take pictures (good ones). I would then start shopping around at various buyers of these items. Fred Sterns comes to mind but remember he is going to give you a "wholesale" price as he needs to mark it up and make a profit. This will be the story with any of them as all one has to do is watch "Pawn Stars" or "American Pickers" to see the difference between acquisition price and selling price. If your Uncle is just trying to rid himself of the collection and there is a model show/swap meet coming to his area soon, he might be able to move a large portion of them there, especially if there are some desirable kits at fair prices. Then he can take whatever is left over and sell it to whomever gives him a decent offer. While I would love to help you by purchasing the collection, I think my wife would kill me if I bought something that sizable! As it stands now, my 350+ collection is "too much" in her eyes and "just beginning" in mine! Good luck and let us know if we can help.
  19. Looks great and might be a kit worth picking up. I like the idea of primer and minimal foiling- nothing to polish and easy to assemble! nice job capturing the look!
  20. Two men walk into a bar..................the third one ducks! Most of my jokes do not meet the standards of cleanliness set forth so therefore I am relegated to the sidelines. Been enjoying these though.
  21. Nice pix Ed, those dioramas look great! Thanks for sharing.
  22. Keep at it and things will get better. Sounds like you have the mental part of the situation figured out, just keep up the hard physical therapy work and you will be back building before you know it. Hearing your story should be a reminder to us that life isn't fair and some have it worse than others, no matter what we think. Keep us posted!
  23. Glad to see I am not the only one who thinks that!
  24. I forgot about that one! I think it is part of a resin ambulance kit and it runs about $100. I can't remember if the truck cab is available separately though. I am sure someone will post the link or some information about it. Just did some searching- the place that offers the kit is SSB Resins (www.ssbresins.com). They have a kit of a late model Ford F-350 quad cab with utility bed, sells for $99.
  25. Ian, Nothing out there in kit form and the resin casters haven't cast anything newer that a '70's or '80's model crew cab. Many of us are waiting for something to come out.
