Gary, Nice stories and sounds like your son is a lucky man for finding some unique vehicles. I am not sure but I thought that Reliable Resin had casted a stock hood for the 70-81 Camaro. Check with them, if not, how hard would it be to create one from one of the kits? Maybe a little cutting and splicing of sheet styrene? Thanks for the pix and stories, hope you find the stock hood!

Is this website still selling?
mikemodeler replied to zjustin28's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Never heard of this site, most folks I know who order from Japan use Hobbylink Japan. Be interesting to see if anyone has experience from this supplier and how their service is. Looks to be current, based upon the coming releases shown. -
Early F-350?
mikemodeler replied to superdog's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I like the "what if?" angle of this build. I think most of us that have ever lived near a snow belt would agree that this truck needs some ballast in the rear, chains on the tires and as Harry said, some mirrors to make it more realistic. I wouldn't dare take a truck out with those tires and no ballast! I know from my days living in Northern Illinois that the plow truck drivers used their rear view mirrors to see how many angry homeowners were shaking their fists or shovels at them for plowing the end of the driveways full of snow! -
Clay, So far, it is looking great! I am sure it will be another nice build, much like the one you did on the mid 50's F pickup. Nice choice of wheels and colors again!

Jimmy, Does your uncle still have his wagon? If so, maybe you could supply some dimensions so the car is accurate? You mentioned that your uncle's car was "super duper long", any idea what the length and wheelbase are supposed to be? It would be a shame to not share that information and then be critical of someone's attempt to build a replica.

New kits from Modelhaus
mikemodeler replied to Monte's Motors's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Nice to see some new kits from Don & Carol. Nothing jumped out at me as being of great interest for me but I hope others find them and they are a success for The Modelhaus. -
"Hello Wisconsin!" I was just watching "That 70's Show" and would love to have a resin copy of the Vista Cruiser! Looks like you have some thought in this, not to mention a lot of time. I would be surprised if no one wanted to cast this for you and us. Whether it is kitbashing or scratchbuilding, what you are doing is great! Keep us updated on the progress.

Depending on your skills and time, you might be able to build the clear display case yourself. Stop by the home center and see what they have available in clear plexiglass. Figure out a design and see if you are up to the task of building it yourself. OR............... Go to a craft store and see what they have available that will allow that 1/20 scale to be displayed. Michaels and Hobby Lobby have display cases throughout the store, not just in the model aisle. They might have something that will accomodate the larger scale model and save you the time and hassle of custom building a display case. Should be a nice Christmas gift for your Dad and I am sure he will treasure it!

Is this news?
mikemodeler replied to Greg Cullinan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The website has been overhauled and has a new layout. They have added some Tamiya lacquer sprays. Nice folks to do business with, I have yet to order via the new website but am sure it is safe. -
That came out very nice and the black paint is smooth and shiny, I applaud you for attempting a black paint job! I have had moderate success with black paint jobs due to the fact that every flaw is there to be seen. The blue stripe is a nice touch as well, really sets off the whole paint job.

Ace Hardware store sale
mikemodeler replied to wisdonm's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Anybody in Northern Lake County Illinois the Ace Hardware in Gurnee has some models and supplies. I believe the stores throughout the county are owned by the same family and they have had the kits for some time, might be some "oldies" in stock. Great chance to get some bargins. -
Looks great and the rake is just right. Nice custom touches and the pinstriping looks right at home. I think I am going to start painting all of my builds in primer- no polishing needed!

model cars mag subscription?
mikemodeler replied to lowriderphil's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No drugs or tissues needed here Erik. Gregg explained it all earlier and now I wait for the magazine. The point was made that Gregg has suffered a reocurance of his back problems, something most of us are aware of as it has been the cause of delays in the past. It was mentioned that someonecould have posted that information as the reason for the delay and all would have been fine. As someone who has subscribed from the beginning and endured delays before, I can assure you I don't shed tears over a late issue. I subscribe because my local hobby shops do NOT carry MCM, despite requests from several customers so I am left with subscribing or going without. Given the economy and personal finances, I struggled to renew my subscription this year but felt I could go without a few kits so I could have the magazine instead. -
Real or Model #151 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Harry got me on the last one, but I am going with real. I think he has played with the picture, like getting the hubcaps perfect and that headrest seems out of place. The whitewalls almost seem "pasted" on. I will find out Friday. -
Got my popcorn and 44 oz. diet coke......waiting for the drama to start any time now! Until then, anybody got some good previews to watch????

model cars mag subscription?
mikemodeler replied to lowriderphil's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a long time subscriber, I agree with Lee. I struggled to renew and my reward is a mag that is nearly 3 months late. Sorry to hear about the back problems but a simple post telling us sooner would have eliminated this post. -
Nice job there Ray, you captured the look of the damage and mud very well. I used to live near there and remember going to that racetrack many times. My wife's cousin ran sprint cars and modifieds there and won a few track championships over the years. I loved the racing but hated the dust flying, some nights it was hard to see the track! The first time I went I couldn't understand why nobody was sitting down low and close to the track until the first heat race and the mud went flying! By the time I could find a seat up high, I was covered in dust & mud! Hope all is well in K-town!

$75,000 2011 Camaro
mikemodeler replied to samm1970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i am sure all of the 2011 Camaro Convertibles will sell without any incentives from GM. The fact that these are being pre-sold at $75,000 will only help those dealers that are lucky enough to get one of these to sell at an inflated price. I remember years ago being in a Neiman Marcus store and a friend called it "Needless Markup" ! I think that would apply in this case, don't you? -
Sorry to hear you are moving soon, I had hoped to get down that way and try to meet you. My son is going to Parris Island next summer with his JROTC program from high school. I would go with Va. Beach as it is a nice area and as was mentioned, there is a model club and a decent Hobbytown USA nearby. A great area and tons of stuff to do. Of course there is a ton of stuff near Twentynine Palms, so the question becomes if you want to shake and bake in the desert or be oceanside? Good luck with the move and hope all goes well.

Sent my renewal form and check in on 8/16/2010. Haven't seen a mag in nearly 2 and half months. Sure would like to know that one is coming soon. BTW- The Mustang looks great!

1990 Ford F350 Crew Cab
mikemodeler replied to Tumbler75's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Coming along nicely and should look good when done. I do have to say that the utility bed looks a little big versus the rest of the build. Maybe you are planning on scaling it down a bit? The bed sides seem to hang down, giving the impression that the wheel openings are out of porportion to the rest of the bed. Just my thoughts, not meant to be critical. I would love to be able to scratch build a bed like this but usually end up with a bunch of scrap plastic! Thank goodness The Modelhaus sells a resin utility bed! -
Large collection
mikemodeler replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rob, Congrats, 12 posts and not one begging for a list! Best of luck with selling the collection. -
Any late model Quad Cab trucks?
mikemodeler replied to ian ashton's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Ian, A member by the screen name Aftashox (Rommell) mentioned that he mastered his late model Ford crew cab and had it cast in resin. He is very sharing with his skills and knowledge, maybe you can contact him and get some help. I bought a diecast Ford F-350 with the idea of trying to cast it but haven't saved up the cash for the resin just yet!
