Spotted one in Mooresville, NC and stopped in. Much like Dave and his experience in VA, I did not find any evidence of model kits and the two high schoolers working the register were more interested in gossip than customer service. I might hit one near my house in Charlotte but I wonder if the kits are a hit and miss proposition- some stores get them and others don't?

so did i get this right

Nice job on that first resin cast project! Looks like a little clean up and some Alcad and you will have a set of wire wheels! -
Peter- could not have said it better, thank you for expressing my thoughts and probably those of many others. Terry- thank you for helping the local fire department, I am sure they will remember who it was that opened up their garage to help them with their truck rebuild. My father-in-law is a retired firefighter who at age 68 is still active in every espect of firefighting. He serves on several boards and works tirelessly with several organizations in helping many people. One of his proudest accomplishments is the service he established helping first responders with assistance at the scene of fire and police emergencies. Like the volunteer firefighter, he is on call 24/7 and responds to an emergency as an unpaid volunteer, all in the name of providing a warm meal, a hot or cold drink, a warming bus or cooling bus (depending on the season)and if needed, a porta potty. I used to help him when I lived near him and still to this day help when we visit the area. I saw first hand how brave the folks are in many different situations, whether they be fire or police. No doubt many of them do a job that most of us would consider dangerous and for pay that any sane person would consider too little. Off the soap box, back to regularly scheduled programming!

American Icon -- The Hot Rod

Big Mike- the only thing about Foose that I could understand people being upset about would be the commercialization of his name. Seems like "Foose" is plastered on a ton of things, much like Jesse James and his West Coast Choppers logos were. I like what Foose builds, I just think sometimes these guys get pushed into signing endorsement contracts or their name getting used to the point of it being ridiculous. Saw it happen with Boyd Coddington, probably will happen with others! It is the pursuit of the almighty dollar and 15 minutes of fame. Ooops- went off topic for a moment, if the show will be on DVD I would check it out as I do not have HD Theater or any HD channels! -
paint job/ 62Chevy 409
mikemodeler replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don, Why not paint the interior the same color as the exterior? Many cars of the '60s had matching paint and interiors. You might want to do some internet searches to see what interiors were available with the marina blue exterior too. -
I thought I was looking at the '66 Chevy brochure, that thing looks great. I hope to knock a few out during X-mas and this is one of them. I will use your pics for reference!

That is looking great and I can't wait to see it finished! I think the color is just right, although I think there are enough red dueces, yours is nice with the wheels and wide whites. Thanks for posting

Thanksgiving
mikemodeler replied to Bridgebuster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with you Lee, I would rather have the inconveinence of a TSA pat down than for my family to have to live without me. Besides, I can only imagine how cheap my wife would sell my 300+ kit collection once the life insurance checks start rolling in! A Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to all, whether by plane, train or automobile. -
Welcome back and glad to see some of your excellent builds coming. Looks great and nice details on those wheels. I like the colors you have chosen, are you going for a "Hershey" truck? Keep up updated!

How much were they asking for this? Looks like one good bump off road and that aftermarket hardtop and 25 pounds of bondo holding the body together would come flying off! That would make a perfect hunting truck. -
Wet sanding is typically done after the color coats have been applied. The process of wet sanding is to even out the color, remove any minor imperfections and prepare it for a nice smooth coat of clear. Wet sanding is done lightly so as to not rub thru the color coat and by using water, reduces the friction and heat buildup as well as material buildup in the sandpaper. Wet sanding usually is done with very fine grits of paper-2000 and above while regular(dry)sanding can start with 320. Regular(dry) sanding is usually done as prep for primer, removing mold lines, and smoothing out any filler that may have been used on the model. It is a trial and error process, just take your time and don't be afraid to ask questions. None of us were born with the skill, we all had to learn somehow!

model car magazine
mikemodeler replied to moparmadness's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You might be able to find it at some hobby shops but the only sure way to get the mag is like Harry suggested...subscribe. -
I can't comment because I still haven't received the latest issue. Hopefully it gets here before I head out of town but I have my doubts.

A co-worker bought a '67 Nickey Camaro back in 1981 for $3,500. It was all original except for the Dana 60 rearend with 5:17 gears. Swapped it out for a 12 bolt with 4:10's and went cruising. Nothing like nailing the gas while in second gear and snapping your neck! I can only imagine what that car is worth today. I had heard that Nickey was building new Camaros so not surprised to see so many in the pictures. Hopefully they are like the ones built in the '60s, fun and fast! Thanks again for the info on the show. I only wished I still lived in the area as I would have been at the show.

very nice build, excellent details on the scratch built interior! Thanks for sharing.
