  1. There is a good chance that the '66 Nova that I started over 6 years ago (and moved from Illinois to NC) will see the display case. I have been busy as of late and hope that the Thanksgiving weekend allows me to get caught up and put a few more in the "completed" category. Once I clear my modelbuilding desk, I will tackle that box of "WIP"s that I have yet to unpack from the move 5 1/2 years ago. That might happen over the Christmas holidays but no promises!
  2. I like the idea of cranking a kit out like this! No polishing, fancy bodywork or engine detailing. I can imagine some kid inheriting a car like this from a grandparent and doing just what you did- wheels and airbags. Only thing missing is the speakerbox in the backseat.
  3. The '66 Olds 442 is being reissued and should be out soon, not sure what parts will be in there but might be worth waiting for. I have not seen anything about the kit online to indicate what the contents will be, maybe someone else has?
  4. Nice build. I think MCW has a resin body for this year Chevy but it might be a Biscayne? He tends to offer the uncommon version of a car not usually available as a kit, like a Biscayne conversion for an Impala. MCW wesite:www.mcwautomotivefinishes.com
  5. Very nice and I like the silver! How did you do the stripes-paint or decals? Clean build and details.
  6. I say "Model" for several reasons, some of them already posted. Just looks like a model to me. Find out the answer in the morning!
  7. As Ed pointed out, with a sour economy, prices are depressed with demand down. If you have to sell, be prepared to take less that what you may have thought you could get. You might be best served waiting awhile or selling a few here and there to get an idea of what to expect.
  8. To Harry's point, ebay will guide you but in the end it is the actual kit and its' condition that will determine the value. Just because someone bids up a particular kit on ebay doesn't always translate into what you will get if you list yours on ebay or take it to a local model car swap meet. You can also check out a couple of the sellers of old kits like Fred Sterns and jiminohio for a reference, keeping in mind they are a business and therefore trying to make a profit. You might be better served to bundle several kits together when you are ready to sell. It will make the task easier and on the outside chance you a have a few opened kits or ones not highly sought after, easier to get rid of. Best of luck in your efforts.
  9. Wayne, Sounds like you got a keeper, enjoy the evening and to hell with the angry boss!
  10. Happy Birthday Marine Corp! As a father to a JROTC Marine Corp cadet, I know how pround he makes me when he is in uniform and the leadership he is learning. Thanks to all past, present and future Marines for all that you have done and are willing to do in the pursuit of freedom for all. Here is to another 235 years!
  11. I like how you are getting carried away with this! Funny how a simple kit bash gets to be an involved build. Keep us updated and show us progress. Any ideas for colors?
  12. Looks great, I have one of those beds to build a '67 that I almost bought back in the early 80's.
  13. Clay, hate to say it but there aren't any Hobby Lobbys in the Va. Beach area. There might be a Michael's though. I will be out that way in 10 days, I will try to scout it for you and let you know what is there. In checking my local HL the other day, they have really scaled back their selection of airbrushes. IIRC they only had Iwata types and they were $160/180 or so. Yes a 30% off coupon helps but they are still pricy. Michaels usually prints a 50% off coupon and they have a better selection(the last time I checked)and might be a better deal. Those 40% off coupons come in handy for many things, I need to print a few off!
  14. Gary, Nice stories and sounds like your son is a lucky man for finding some unique vehicles. I am not sure but I thought that Reliable Resin had casted a stock hood for the 70-81 Camaro. Check with them, if not, how hard would it be to create one from one of the kits? Maybe a little cutting and splicing of sheet styrene? Thanks for the pix and stories, hope you find the stock hood!
  15. Never heard of this site, most folks I know who order from Japan use Hobbylink Japan. Be interesting to see if anyone has experience from this supplier and how their service is. Looks to be current, based upon the coming releases shown.
  16. I like the "what if?" angle of this build. I think most of us that have ever lived near a snow belt would agree that this truck needs some ballast in the rear, chains on the tires and as Harry said, some mirrors to make it more realistic. I wouldn't dare take a truck out with those tires and no ballast! I know from my days living in Northern Illinois that the plow truck drivers used their rear view mirrors to see how many angry homeowners were shaking their fists or shovels at them for plowing the end of the driveways full of snow!
  17. Clay, So far, it is looking great! I am sure it will be another nice build, much like the one you did on the mid 50's F pickup. Nice choice of wheels and colors again!
  18. Jimmy, Does your uncle still have his wagon? If so, maybe you could supply some dimensions so the car is accurate? You mentioned that your uncle's car was "super duper long", any idea what the length and wheelbase are supposed to be? It would be a shame to not share that information and then be critical of someone's attempt to build a replica.
  19. Nice to see some new kits from Don & Carol. Nothing jumped out at me as being of great interest for me but I hope others find them and they are a success for The Modelhaus.
  20. "Hello Wisconsin!" I was just watching "That 70's Show" and would love to have a resin copy of the Vista Cruiser! Looks like you have some thought in this, not to mention a lot of time. I would be surprised if no one wanted to cast this for you and us. Whether it is kitbashing or scratchbuilding, what you are doing is great! Keep us updated on the progress.
  21. Well Jim, North Carolina is between Michigan and Florida and no issue here yet!!!!!! It will probably show up on Monday when I won't have time to read it for a week. Based on the date the August/September issue arrived, I would guess that the October issue will come after Christmas.
  22. Depending on your skills and time, you might be able to build the clear display case yourself. Stop by the home center and see what they have available in clear plexiglass. Figure out a design and see if you are up to the task of building it yourself. OR............... Go to a craft store and see what they have available that will allow that 1/20 scale to be displayed. Michaels and Hobby Lobby have display cases throughout the store, not just in the model aisle. They might have something that will accomodate the larger scale model and save you the time and hassle of custom building a display case. Should be a nice Christmas gift for your Dad and I am sure he will treasure it!
  23. The website has been overhauled and has a new layout. They have added some Tamiya lacquer sprays. Nice folks to do business with, I have yet to order via the new website but am sure it is safe.
  24. That came out very nice and the black paint is smooth and shiny, I applaud you for attempting a black paint job! I have had moderate success with black paint jobs due to the fact that every flaw is there to be seen. The blue stripe is a nice touch as well, really sets off the whole paint job.
  25. Anybody in Northern Lake County Illinois the Ace Hardware in Gurnee has some models and supplies. I believe the stores throughout the county are owned by the same family and they have had the kits for some time, might be some "oldies" in stock. Great chance to get some bargins.
