  1. look around for one of the Midnite Cowboy wrecker kits. I have seen them on the bay for anywhere from $10-$30 but remember you are really just in need of the wrecker equipment. I see them at swap meets and they usually go for about $20, sometimes less. Depending on your scratchbuilding skills, you may be able to replicate what you want with some Evergreen styrene. I doubt we will see any new wrecker kits from the manufacturers, better chance of seeing something in resin.
  2. Welcome back & home Dave! Hope you stay away from that hospital for a long time and you can get back to building soon.
  3. Okay Clay, you have moved, you are feeling better, and you have unpacked the kids and the kitchen. Now when in the heck are you gonna post a build ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Just kidding, the move is bad enough but to be sick on top of it must really stink. Get settled in and we will all be here to see your next creation. Hopefully you have had a chance to find that Hobbytown USA near you and made friends with the staff there! Thank you again for your service.
  4. Josh, Post as much information as you can about this show. It happens to fall on my wife's birthday, doubt I can make it but you never know!
  5. Not familiar with the Olds wheels/tires but have built about 6 of the snap '69 Camaro kits and have not had any problems with the wheels/tires in those kits. Could be you got kits that were not checked before they were sent. I would think Revell would like to know if the tires are incorrect. I know in the past they were selective in sending out replacement tires as it was being abused by some.
  6. Your best bet will probably be to use an AMT Tahoe kit and cut it down to size. I think someone made a resin body at one time (could be wrong, it is late!)but the Tahoe kit would be the way to go. It has those wheels, mirrors and grille and some simple cutting and gluing and you should be on your way. Nice truck your Dad has there, I am guessing it has been painted as I don't remember that being a factory color. Good luck!
  7. Good for you Don, hope it works out as well the second time around as it did the first time!
  8. Jim, Thank you for informing us of this heroes arrival home, unfortunately not the way he or his family envisioned I am sure. Thanks also for being part of the procession, I am sure it was appreciated by his family. Cpl Turner and many other soldiers have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and that is something that we cannot forget. I try to thank every serviceman and woman when I encounter them for their service and the sacrifices their family has made for us all. As the father of a 17 year old who has designs on joining the Marine Corp in two years, I tend to get a little emotional about these posts knowing that it could be him one day. Take care Cpl. Turner, Semper Fi and Godspeed.
  9. Where do I send my order? I would definitely be interested, especially if they will fit some of the tires in my stash. Hopefully you will offer them with and without the tires?
  10. Thumper- I know you listed this on eBay, did you get any takers? Just curious if someone was taken by your build like so many of us here were? Thanks.
  11. Their catalog is $4, well worth the price once you see all they have to offer. There isn't a website, Norm spends his time developing some great product instead of being online. As Donnie said, best way to get the product is directly from them or at a show they attend.
  12. Exactly Donnie! I find it hard to buy kits that exceed $25, mainly because I already have enough to last me a lifetime! The only collectible kit( read: has not been reissued in it's original form)I have ever bought was an old MPC Jeep CJ-5 kit that could be built 3 different ways. I wanted it and the seller took $30 for it, which to me was all it was worth. I have it among my "don't sell, gonna build it" collection. I have bought a few big rig kits that went for 60-90 dollars but I only have a few of those and they too are in the don't sell pile. P.T. Barnum once said...."there is a sucker born every minute" and while he might not have meant any of us in the model hobby, I do think that some folks get fooled into thinking kits are worth exhorbinant sums of money- buyers and sellers alike.
  13. Hope you enjoyed the time building Don and you are safe from the rising waters! It was 82 here in Charlotte yesterday and I was able to get one body repainted- spent the rest of the day doing yard work. We are supposed to be settling into a warmer weather pattern so hopefully I can get a bunch of bodies painted so I have something to do once the heat and humidity hits. Stay safe!
  14. Very nice and great details, I'll bet those pinstripes were fun to get lined up and smooth! I have a friend who owns one of these in 1:1 and judging from your pictures, I would say you nailed the look 100%. I might have to convert one of my AMT '67 / '68 kits into a Pace Car too!
  15. Bob, One word describes that model WOW When I get around to building mine I will be sure to send it to you for paint and foil, that will be the only way it will look decent! Great job and can't wait to see it in the Under Glass section!
  16. Don, Great topic! I agree with the 3 things you have listed- knowledge, desire and patience. As far as tools go, that can be debated as I started nearly 40 years ago with a simple pocket knife and whatever file or sandpaper I could find. I didn't know about exacto knives, polishing kits, hobby files, multiple grades of sandpaper, proper primers and color coats and clear coats! Today I have more tools and sandpaper than I ever imagined. I would suggest that anyone starting out in this hobby equip themselves with a good #11 knife, an assortment of sanding sticks, some 320 thru 2000 grit sandpaper and a ton of patience! Everything else can be added as the skills and desire improves.
  17. I believe they re-run the show on Sunday mornings. I could be wrong so check your listings or set your DVR (like I will!).
  18. I always enjoyed this show when I lived in the area, hope you find some good buys!
  19. Rob, If you are just going to build a few models and not a bunch, consider the Testors One Coat line at Hobby Lobby. They are mostly metallics and bright colors, which may appeal to the kids. These dry quickly and look pretty decent when done. They are truly a one coat paint. Something to consider when clearcoating a paint job is using Future floor wax. I recently tried it and was pleasantly surprised at the results. It is easy to use, I brushed it on, and it cleans up easily. If the Future has dirt or runs, it can be removed with Windex. It is a new way of clearcoating paint jobs without the toxicity of some of the other options out there.
  20. Is that the car that Rahm Emmanuel will ride in for his inauguration ceremony as the new mayor (Da Mare) of Chicago? Somebody had too much time and some sick thoughts when they put that together.
  21. The April issue of Hot Rod Magazine has a sweet '61 Biscayne with a 572 in it that was built by Bryan Fuller, of Two Guys Garage fame. I think that will provide me with the inspiration to use the VCG engine I got last month! Need some updates Craig!
  22. I am sure they will sell my 300+ kit collection on eBay and retire rich and happy! I should leave my wife a few names and phone numbers so she doesn't get tricked into giving them away or getting next to nothing for them. I have thought about selling them down as I doubt that I will build them all in this lifetime, but then that would be admitting what she has been saying for years..."You have too many models!"
  23. Marc, That is looking sweet and nice to see it getting close to being done. I worked with a guy who had a '67 Camaro from Nickey Chevrolet that was similar in color to yours, down to the black nose stripe and deluxe interior. I remember a few rides in that car- nothing like an L-88 Camaro to snap your neck when going through the gears! Get it done so we can see it finally finished! Mike
  24. Welcome to MCM Thumper, glad to see this build over here. That is coming along very nicely and looks pretty accurate. I mentioned on the other forum that this car is owned by a friend of mine and when I head back home later this year I hope to see it and maybe go for a ride! His brother tells me that the owner is in awe of the horsepower this car has and it definitely is not for the faint of heart. Thanks again for sharing it here.
  25. I hit the Ollie's in Matthews NC today and got two Crown Vic police cars for $7.99 each but the selection looked like it had been picked thru pretty well. I walked around and did find some Duplicolor Van& SUV touch up paint for $.99/can. Pretty much blue, red and green but quite a bargain! These are the larger cans (10 oz ?) and can probably get 4 or 5 paint jobs from each one! They still had some of the 1:25 scale skid loaders for $14.99
