Hobby Lobby sale
mikemodeler replied to crazyjim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
George- Clay is right, get the store info and check with the manager. Tell him how disappointed you are and that your club members are too. Maybe then the selection will change. If not, contact corporate offices. As a reminder to everyone, they are advertising the shadow boxes and display boxes at 50% off. This means the plastic display cases in the model aisle are 50% off! I found that out one day and have only bought them when they are on sale. I do not have a sealed display case so I buy these when they are on sale for my builds. The Hobby Lobby's around my area are a hit and miss. Usually after a sale like this one it will be slim pickens for a while, until they replenish the inventory. -
1960 Ford F-100 Pick Up
mikemodeler replied to Carmikeman's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
It might be my eyes but that frame and bed floor look like they have a little bit of a twist in them. Are they sitting flat on the table or are they truly warped slightly? I agree that it doesn't look too bad, but I would be worried about a warped frame or bed floor. -
Nice start and I like the idea of an otherwise stock looking vehicle. Paint choices sound nice, what are you going to run as a powerplant, stock motor or something a little more potent?

Congrats George, not many people can boast about being married that long! It would be nice if you posted a picture of you and your wife....That one Mike put up with you and daughter was a nice one

I think what makes Eric and Kenny great casters is that they care and they are builders too, not just someone trying to make a fast buck. Nice people to do business with and if you ever see them at a show, talk with them, they are really into what they are doing. -
Snow is a four letter word!
mikemodeler replied to Green Duster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Was 85 here in the Carolinas yesterday, gonna cool down to the upper 60s today and rain and cooler weather moves in for a few days. Probably gonna have to mow the grass again this weekend (my apologies to those of you who can't see their lawn because of snow!). Happiest day of my life was 6 years ago when I packed up my house and moved from Northern Illinois to Charlotte. Selling that 8 hp, two stage 30 inch snowblower and giving away my snow shovels ranks right up there with the packing and moving! Went back to Chicago this past winter right after the big blizzard and it was a good reminder why I moved South. Spring is coming, just sooner for some! -
The “Greater Birmingham Classic March 19th 2011
mikemodeler replied to TimKustom's topic in Contests and Shows
Thanks for posting Bob, those are some nice models and the 1:1 cars were nice to see as well. I really liked that black 55 Chevy and the black 66 El Camino, those paint jobs were spectacular and the details & chrome were beautiful. -

Thanks for posting those pix Len, nice bunch of models there! I really liked that mid-60's Dodge crew cab race car hauler. -
Freddy, Mike is right (aren't all Mikes right????) about the sanding metallics. Lay on some clear as that Tamiya lacquer needs a couple of coats to hold the shine in. Use either a Tamiya clear coat (for compatibility reasons) or try using Future floor wax. I have recently tried it and love it. It is very easy to use and can be brushed on or sprayed through an airbrush. A big bottle will last you a long time. Check out this section for more info on the Future wax thread.

Bashing People on here
mikemodeler replied to spkgibson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As P.T. Barnum once said.........."There's a sucker born every minute". All we can do about bad resin is to show the pictures here and let people draw their own conclusions. I don't think that would fall into the "Bashing" category. Caveat Emptor (buyer beware). The shame of it all is that I was thinking about ordering one of those bodies; Glad I didn't as I have a wide array of hammers left over from my carpenter and mechanic days!!!! -
Nice job on that Bonnie Rob, glad to see you back building models and nice ones at that! Can't wait to see what else you have in store. Are you still painting firetrucks at Pierce?

Bashing People on here
mikemodeler replied to spkgibson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mark, I think it has been said or should be said that all one expects is what they pay for, in a reasonable amount of time. Up for debate and interpretation is what is a reasonable amount of time? All of us have had situations that have caused us to miss a deadline or not take care of something in a timely manner. Speaking for myself, when I deal with a new company for the first time, I try to determine how long it may be before I receive my product. In some cases they have it ready to ship and in other cases it may take awhile. This year I have ordered some stuff from folks I haven't previously dealt with and I will list them here: Jeff B- ordered his '66 Ford F-100 resin pickup. Beautiful casting and took about 7 weeks to receive as he was swamped with orders. A quick email kept informed and I am happy with what I got. Mannyclub- ordered an engine and some other resin pieces from him and received my order in about 10 days. Had everything in stock and came as advertised. Nice stuff and will order again. Replicas & miniatures- ordered his catalog and will place an order. He states on the order form that it takes 3-4 weeks but could be sooner, depending on volume. That is fair and nice to know ahead of time. Ma's resin- placed an order about 7 weeks ago. I checked in 4 weeks ago and was told that it should ship this month, waiting for an update. Alan states that his product is built to order and to expect delays. Again, knowing this ahead of time makes a difference to me. The common denominator in the 4 examples above are that they all state that it could take some time to get the parts, which to me is the way to do business. Would I have liked to get the product sooner? Sure, but as you mentioned,it probably wouldn't have mattered as it wasn't holding up a build for a magazine article or a contest entry. It will go into the "roundtoit" box- I will build it when I get round to it! -
Nice start there Nick, I got one about half way done (like so many others! LOL) and yours might be the spark to get me motivated to get it done. The '67 is among the rarest of the Z-28s as only 602 were produced, making them the fewest among the 1st. Gen Camaros. Funny fact about the '69 Z-28 Camaros. They produced about 19,000 of them and I swear there are still that many on the road, all because folks have slapped badges on a fender!

I dug one of these out and have started the priming and planning. I can't decide if I want to build a modern type(pro touring) car or go for a stock replica of a '66 that I used to pass everyday on the way to high school, hoping to save my money for and buy one day! Can't wait to see how you do with this Don, it just might inspire me to get mine done.

1960 Ford F-100 Pick Up
mikemodeler replied to Carmikeman's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I know this topic is about the '60 Ford Pickup but I did want to say that my '66 Ford F100 showed up the other day and it was as nice as promised. Very little flash and no real issues with the body or other parts. The white resin makes you think the thing was a plastic kit! -
Bizzare Race Car thread

As long as we don't mention the "G" word, there is a chance this thread could go on for awhile. I chose to use pig latin, although if the word was spelled backwards, that could work. snilmerg -

1960 Ford F-100 Pick Up
mikemodeler replied to Carmikeman's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thats' the one I am waiting on George. Jeff said he was about ready to ship them when we last exchanged emails, think it was last week. I was intrigued by it and I think you showed your copy of it here on the forum and that was the deciding factor for me to buy it. I have had about 6 different ideas of how I will build it float through my mind since I ordered it! Thanks. -
1960 Ford F-100 Pick Up
mikemodeler replied to Carmikeman's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Modelroundup offers the Hendrix resin '60 Ford Pickup kit. I have not seen it or built one but it appears to be a decent kit. I am awaiting shipment on a '66 Ford Pickup resin kit that is supposed to be a very nice and accurate kit. I wish there were more resin kits out there for these classic trucks. -
Pure speculation here but I would think that the leasing of the plastic model molds to Round 2 has been profitable for RC2 and that is not the sole reason Tomy bought RC2. It would be in their best interest to continue to lease the molds, short term, while they size up the diecast/toy portion of the RC2 business. Whether or not they decide to put money into the plastic model business will most certainly be decided by a cost analysis and not our input. Best case scenario: Business as usual for Round 2 and some kits come our way. Worst case scenario: Tomy decides to sell the plastic model molds and no one is interested, resulting in the downfall of those kits and they cease production. Of course if my worst case scenario comes true, all those AMT kits just became collectors items and I can retire early!

Any interest in a 8lug truck steel wheel?
mikemodeler replied to RyanSilva's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Ryan, Those look great and definitely caught my eye! I am interested in some, what kind of turn around time should we expect on these? I would hate to order them and then have to wait months while you get caught up with orders! Thanks! -
Good resin dealers?
mikemodeler replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess it really depends on what you are looking for Patrick. Are you into building certain types of vehicles? Restoring old kits and need a few pieces? Looking for specific parts? There are many resin casters out there, some are great with their service, some have great product and a few offer both- great service and product. Get more specific and the members here can steer you in the right direction.
