  1. If you are interested in selling or trading it, PM as I have a friend who has that car in 1:1 and would probably be interested in buying that from you. That looks like an original promo and like Harry said, it is worth a few bucks. Nice find, hope you find more!
  2. Maybe that has something to do with how she gets her hair in the car! I will say it is real.....oh wait, that is next week!
  3. Ok, so I haven't even received my April issue and Gregg is going to tease me with the May/June cover?????? Makes me want to beat up the mailman and have him cough up my MCM as that HAS to be the reason why I haven't seen #158 yet! I am liking the sounds of things, gonna have to ask for a raise in my allowance so I can renew my subscription this summer.
  4. I am set to head out on the road for a few days and while it would have been nice to have something new to read, #158 is not here yet. It has always amazed me at the hit and miss pattern of the USPO in the way they deliver mail. How can someone get their magazine a week(or more) before others if they are mailed at the same time?
  5. You are not alone in your thinking Mark as I am in the same boat. I am not a builder of big trucks but all the forum buzz about the new Lonestar kit and the various test shots and what not have me thinking about buying one. Same might be true for some other kits on the horizon. Hell, I bought the new Lindberg Charger police car kit for the dang lightbars! I am sure I will build the Charger or trade it but it was the thought of 8 lightbars for other projects that got me to part with $20 for it!
  6. Tim, To Aaron's point, when you consider the cost of that blower motor and engineering it to fit your booth, it might be a good idea to compare costs to a ready built booth. Pace is one of several that advertise in the hobby mags and several members here have raved about them. Despite my handy skills and general frugality, I am seriously thinking about getting a Pace (or similar) booth just because I can literally plug it in and be painting in a matter of minutes as opposed to building one in hours or days! Best of luck and show us what you got!
  7. I am sure that the pre-production announcements also help determine if a company should really spend the money on a tool and pour plastic into it. What is the reaction and forum talk say about a particular kit's potential? In the past the manufacturers relied on the LHS and distributors pre-orders as well as big box retailers. Now that there are fewer distribution points, the forums and chat rooms might be a better barometer. While we have all seen plenty of 32 Fords and 57 Chevies, and many of us have a lot in our stash, did that prevent some of us from buying more of the new variations that have come out? How many people bought the '72 Cutlass when it came out last year only to buy the new version this year????? The price of developing a new kit for a shrinking market is a huge factor in what we eventually see on the shelves at the store. How much would it cost to tool up a brand new '73 Chevy Vega kit versus modifying an existing '69 Camaro mold to create a COPO version of car many of us would love to build? Simple economics. The recent list of coming releases from Revell and Round 2 have me a little excited but then again I tend to start more than I finish so the last thing I need is another dozen kits-just ask my wife! I feel we need to have the announcements continue or else we run the risk of folks losing interest in the hobby. While I hate waiting like most, it should serve as a motivation to get my WIP done so I can build the new kits coming.
  8. I second Jim's request and please ask that the only background music is the "lump lump" of that beautiful motor!
  9. Looking good there Walt, I can relate with the honey-do list and model building! Nice calendar there too.......You must possess some "Know How"
  10. To add to Lee's post, there has been much written/debated here about the type of motor needed to build a safe spray booth. The Grainger folks have the correct type of motor to keep you safe. They ain't cheap but being blown up or having a house fire isn't either! Show us your booth when you get it done!
  11. congrats on your first issue. I have been a subscriber for a long time and have all the issues from nearly the beginning. Hopefully my copy will show up soon but I think my mailman reads it first as the pages are worn when it comes 2 weeks after everybody else gets theirs!
  12. I was just in a Hobbytown USA and they had the Tamiya White putty but no primers. The owner said they should be getting the primers in some time this month, hopefully. He ranted a little about the CPSC label requirements as it didn't seem to affect the big cans of primers available at home centers or parts stores. It must be something about Tamiya as the ModelMaster wasn't affected. Whatever the case, I like Bob Downie's idea of primer as it seems to be an economical solution. Gotta find some and try it!
  13. I will add a third and also state that Bob has a knack for combining some cars into great "Why don't they build that?" vehicles! That Mustang/Camaro/Challenger combo from awhile back is another one of those great builds. I have similar visions, I just can't make them happen like you do Bob and my hat is off to you! I can't wait to see what you cook up next.
  14. I have used many methods- Tamiya stand, old spray can, blocks of wood, coat hanger- but use my Tamiya stand the most. It is spring loaded and holds the body tight. For smaller pieces I use a large paint stirring stick from Home Depot with doubled over tape to hold them while painting. Makes it easy to manipulate it for complete coverage. I got an email from Micro-Mark today, they are having a sales and have discounted their shipping. Check with them or any of the other online retailers and you could probably find a dozen different ways to hold a body or parts for painting. Like just about anything else in this hobby, we all have different methods to acheive similar results so don't be afraid to try something!
  15. looking good there Jeff, I like the idea of a separate bed/cab. The chassis lift looks spot on and just the right height. Those look like tires from Ma's Resin, am I correct? If so, where did the wheels come from? I just got some tires from Ma's and am looking for some different wheels to use with them. Get this thing done and show us how it looks! Would also be curious to see that Scrambler body (hint hint).
  16. that car just reeks of sleeper! Nice color choice and excellent details.
  17. Like what Harry??? Inquiring minds need to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Jim, Sorry that you have chosen to leave but hopefully you will have a change of heart after a break from being here. I too get tired of the antics but do try to make visiting here a daily ritual as it helps me feel connected to the modeling world. Hope to see you back here, maybe a vacation is in order and you will reconsider. Mike
  19. I am not a cat person but gotta admit that you are blessed to have one that was looking out for you. I agree that some nice Albacore tuna is in order, maybe even a new play toy!
  20. JohnnyG- I hope you rethink your response to the posts to your questions. I read them all and I see forum members here looking out for your safety. The issue of sealed motors and hazardous fumes has been addressed here in many posts and I think what most were trying to say is that the cost savings of using parts from a clothes dryer versus buying a paint booth that has parts specifically engineered for painting is not always worth it. A trip to the ER or spending time in a burn ward will cost much more than what you can save by building a booth with parts that may OR may not be safe. I don't think anyone wants to read about any members here being injured trying to get that killer paint job on a model, especially if it could have been prevented. Hope it all works out well and show us your results, I am interested in seeing it!
  21. Nick (or anyone else with an answer), If calling him is the best way to find out what is available, can one place an order at that time and be assured that it will be on it's way? I have had my eye on a couple of resin kits for some time but had reservations because Randy has been busy.
  22. Not sure if our military was responsible for bringing this evil person to justice but whomever is I would like to say thank you. The havoc that man and his group brought to our shores nearly 10 years ago should be something that we all never forget and hopefully we won't. My only fear is now his followers will have a renewed sense to carry out more attacks and I hope we are prepared to meet them head on and prevent them. While this is great news, I am cautious about what the coming days will bring to this world.
  23. To add to James' and Wayne's comments, I will say this. I buy my primers and basic colors in large spray cans as it makes economical sense. I bought a can (16 oz I think) of Duplicolor primer yesterday at the auto parts store for $5.39, I could buy a can of Testor's Model Master primer for about the same price but about 1/4 the size. Looking around at some of the online sellers of paint (MCW comes to mind), you can have a much larger variety of colors and if you are looking for a specific color for an older vehicle, they are your ticket. I have 2 older Camaro builds on my shelf that a friend painted for me about 15 years ago. At the time he went to a body shop supply store and bought some Hugger Orange to spray my bodies and a couple of his as well with his airbrush. Today I can go to a hobby shop and get a can of Testors Hugger Orange and spray without using an airbrush like my friend did. The only down side to buying specific colors from a body shop supply store is that they typically sell quarts of paint (some might sell pints) but unless you have a bunch of vehicles to paint the same color, small jars from places like MCW are a better way to go. I have had an airbrush for 15 years and still struggle with it. Maybe I am lazy, but I like to spray with a can as that is my comfort zone. I have vowed to use my airbrush more this year but have been too busy to take the time to do so. I can shake a can for 2 minutes and 30 minutes later the car is covered in color. I suggest you use whatever method works best for you, time, money, and results wize.
  24. Very Nice there Peter! I like the colors and the details. I am holding off on any more tri-fives until the feeling comes back to my hands after the last two '57s and the BMF experience!
  25. Harry, I think any person that was on the SA forum and came here came for the statement you made above. Over there the mod had a hair trigger on anything. I appreciate your style and I think Gregg has a lot to be thankful for by having your help here. We just need to move past the nonsense and keep this about building models, plain and simple.
