  1. Spent the weekend getting some projects done outside since the weather cooperated. Really sad to log in this evening after not being here for 48 hours and seeing some of the nonsense that went on. I won't fan the flames or flog the horse but I do agree that Gregg or his designated "policers" should do whatever it takes to keep this a place about model cars and not let it slip into character attacks and peeing contests. As was stated several times- if you don't like something, move on and let it be. As my Mom continues to tell me (at age 86!)"Michael, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!" Good advice for all of us and especially those that tend to pontificate at times. There, I have chimed in and now it is dinner time!
  2. My Mom had 2 wagons as I was growing up and neither one looked ANYTHING close to this! That is very nice Steve, excellent details and great paint. I have a 66 wagon that I need to spend some time finishing, thanks for the inspiration.
  3. I have not used Ross Gibson products but another alternative for a nice big block is the 572 from VCG Resins. Craig Hosfeld is the proprietor of VCG and he is a member here (MannyClub). His is a nice engine and I will be using it real soon in a build I am planning. His service time was excellent! I did look at some of the Ross Gibson engines when I was on the RPP Hobbies website yesterday but they were out of stock. Not sure when they were going to have more in stock but they did have them on sale which probably explains why they didn't have any!
  4. Jim, I once lived in the area and I can say without question it will be worth your while to drive to these two shops. Model Empire is a great hobby shop and has a ton of stuff to drool over! Greenfield News & Hobby has a ton of stuff to look at as well. They also have a great selection of magazines to pick from. Check out Mapquest and plug in the addresses for these locations and I don't think it will be that far out of your way. There are several other hobby shops in the Milwaukee area that would be worth visiting if you have the time.
  5. Some really nice models there, hard to believe that the show was across the pond considering the number of US cars in the pictures! Nice paint and eye for detail in every build shown.
  6. That paint looks fantastic! How much clear did you lay on it to get it so deep? Looking great, should be a beauty when done.
  7. looks good dropped down a few inches. I would suggest painting those wheels to match the roof, they seem out of place in gray.
  8. Thanks for posting those other shows Tom & Richard, I forgot about them this morning when I originally posted and just remembered them tonight! Hope to see you guys there!
  9. That move has already paid off for you Clay ! Hope you have found some stuff there at the HTU, nice place to visit.
  10. Looks good Ron, one question though...why does the cab sit up higher than the bed, or is it an illusion?
  11. Ed, There is a show and swap meet in Simpsonville (Greenville area) South Carolina on Saturday May 14. A bit of a drive for you but that is all that I am aware of at this time. I will check around and let you know of any other events. Hope all is well...............
  12. The Modelhaus offers a stock hood for the AMT 67 Impala for $4.50. They have many "stock" parts for cars of many years and makes. Check them out.
  13. WOW ! With a paint job like that, I don't think there is much need for any emergency lights on it ! That is definitely eye catching and very well detailed! Thanks for sharing.
  14. Nice clean build you have there Jim. I like the color choices and the wheels give it a modern look. Keep em coming!
  15. The defending Stanley Cup champions still have some fight left in them. GO BLACKHAWKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. I buy from all three sources listed. There are some Hobbytown USA locations near me and in cities I travel to with my job. I am always looking for a hobby shop when I am on the road and lately have found a few Hobbytown stores that have a good selection. Their prices aren't the best but when compared to buying online and shipping, it is a wash for me. Besides, then the wife doesn't see more models arrive on the doorstep! There are fewer LHS near me but the ones that are seem to cater to the R/C crowd. I usually find them as a good source for scratchbuilding supplies and paint. Hobby Lobby is great for their coupons but they seem to be a few months behind when it comes to new releases. I have found some deals on display cases and snap kits.
  17. maybe some firecrackers??????
  18. That is nice to hear. They are shutting down many of the libraries here in Charlotte and the ones that are left have minimal hours. By the way, was that MCM in the non-fiction section or the periodicals?????
  19. Ah, the old "kink in the hose" excuse, eh Harry? I haven't had any problems, but then again I am supposed to be at work right now!
  20. So it is possible that you have relatives in Nigeria that won the lottery and want to share?
  21. You have come a long way with your skills Nick and it is nice to see the improvements in your builds. You have captured the look of a '67 Camaro nicely and it looks very realistic. Keep them coming and before you know it we will be hearing about the contest winners you are building.
  22. I think you need to define "serious car modeler". I would like to think of myself as a serious car modeler but in reality I buy a lot of kits and start some and finish a few. I subscribe to the 2 car modeling mags, belong to both forums and try to attend a couple of swap meets and shows every year and yet there are probably some out there that do not follow in my footsteps and complete more builds year in and year out.
  23. Not certain which kits contain them but I know you can order them from Replicas & Minatures Co. of Maryland. Their part number is dd-27 and goes for $7.95. No website but here is their address: 317 Roosevelt Ave. Glen Burnie, MD 21061 email: replmincomd@aol.com Phone: 410-768-3648 9-6 Mon-Sat (EST)
  24. Was travelling yesterday and when I got to my hotel, there was a motor coach with 40 senior citizens checking in at the same time as me! What to do, I had to kill some time or wait in line with the old farts! There was an Ollies about 300 yards away so I HAD to go in there and see what was left of the Lindberg bargains. Picked up another F-150 pickup for $7.99 and a large can of touch up paint for $.99! Still had some time left to kill so I stopped in at the HobbyTown USA to see what they had. Looked around and picked up the COPO Nova for $24.00 plus a can of Testors Lacquer. The clerk said they had just received 6 COPO Novas that day and I was getting the last one! I will hopefully tear into that COPO this weekend, although I really should finish the 8 or 9 other kits I have sitting on the bench.
  25. Just got home and my April issue (oops, I mean the January issue in April!)was waiting for me. Nice to see the changes to the magazine and it is getting better every time. I just wish the PO didn't mangle the darn thing so that it would be easier to turn the pages without them tearing.
