2 part putty find
mikemodeler replied to Steven Zimmerman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great tip there Steve and to add to it, that 2 part putty can be found at a NAPA or Carquest parts store as well. It might also be available at hardware store and possibly the auto section at Wal-Mart, depending on the local market. Good stuff and easy to work with. -
If you really wanted to impress us, you would build one of each color too! Just kidding, great looking builds and an impressive list of to be done builds. Keep them coming!

Ma's Resin Order info
mikemodeler replied to cherokeered's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not sure what size tire you are looking for but Ma's Resin and The Modelhaus are the two best sources I know of and have ordered from. Alan at Ma's does excellent work but it is a side job and sometimes demand is great for his product and he can get behind. The product is great stuff and worth the wait and you won't be disappointed. The Modelhaus has a great reputation and the longest I have ever waited was 4 weeks, which they typically tell you up front to expect 4-6 weeks before your order ships. If you are looking for some large tire and wheel combos (think 44 or 49 inchers) try RPP Hobby as they have some nice stuff too. -
we had no power
mikemodeler replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have family and friends back in NE Illinois and they expect to be without power for 48 hours, for the second time in less than 2 weeks. They are looking at throwing out spoiled food if the power doesn't come back on soon. And they worry about me living in the South and hurricanes! Ha, they have lost power more times in the last 30 days due to storms than I have in 6 years! Luckily no one in my family or friends have been hurt by these storms and I hope it stays that way. -
The car is real but the woman standing next to it is a model- Sorry, I couldn't resist! I will have to do some research and see if I can play this week.

Lee, There is no one solution that will work for everyone and I think you will agree. What I was merely saying is that if the magazine was available online, you COULD print out an article if you wanted to. You could also burn them to a CD/DVD and store them a lot easier than a box of magazines. One of the attractions to an online magazine is that it becomes available to everyone at the same time. I am one of those folks who seems to be a week or more behind in getting my copy and I would welcome the chance to view the magazine when others do and start posting comments here. I know you have had a tough 3 years and are slowly getting back on your feet and if my comments were taken as "blasting you", then maybe you should re-read them. I wasn't blasting anyone but felt that some might not share my views and they would object to them and obviously you have your reasons for not feeling the way I do.

Tips, Tricks & Confusion
mikemodeler replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let's get Donn to do it, yeah, yeah! He can keep us all on the straight and narrow! Met him last year at a show down here. We talked for nearly 45 minutes, watched his video and discussed models and life. He got $20 out of me for the video and a fan of his for life. Haven't used the all of tips yet (long story there) but his approach is so simple and straightforward I highly recommend using it. -
Nice attempt at a subject that is probably long overdue for a kit manufacturer to offer. My advice for your next trailer is to take your time and concentrate on clean details. You have the right idea and I think if you really wanted to, you could make something that looks like it came from a kit. Some practice with foil and it would look much better, take your time gluing and painting and don't be in a rush.

Dave's comments here have some merit. Every time a new issue comes out, the posts start adding up over the torn/damaged copies, haven't seen mine yet, what are Hot Wheels doing in a model mag, etc complaints and having the mag online allows you to avoid those problems. Everyone would have access to the magazine at the same time, no ripped up copies, ignore those articles that don't appeal to you, and if you HAVE to have a paper copy, print off the pages you want! Gregg would save himself time and money if he were to go this route and server upgrades would be much easier to do. Just my two pennies, I am sure I will get blasted. PS- the connection problems seem to be worse for me in the evenings so I find myself not logging in then.

Very cool looking 'Camino and nice choice of colors. The painted bumpers give it a neat subtle look.

Issue #159 just hit my mail box
mikemodeler replied to Jairus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good points there Harry, and as a buyer of kits that occasionally gets around to starting and finishing one, I buy for the subject matter more than correct dimensions on that quarter panel! I had a passing interest in the Trumpeter Falcon until so many flaws and omissions were pointed out that I figure that $40 could be spent on something more worthwhile. BTW- still waiting for #159 to show up. The "other" mag came today and have already given it a quick scan. MCM must be really good as the mailman is still reading it ! -

Nothing here and if my luck repeats itself, I will probably get my MCM and SA on the same day! Then I will have to decide which to read first- not always an easy decision! -
Late 90's Ford Bronco
mikemodeler replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think someone was toying with the idea of doing one but I don't think it ever came to be. I do remember seeing on a forum, not sure if it was here, where someone created one with a late model AMT Ford pickup kit and a Bronco kit. I always thought it would be a decent seller considering the chatter on many forums. -
Good luck with that Jeff as that body was only around from 73-77. I think there was a 1/32 scale snap kit of that body style but I don't remember anything in the 1/25 size. Other than the NASCAR kit, I don't even think that there as a regular kit of a Chevelle. Pretty sure there wasn't a promo either. I remember a neighbor had a '74 and it was loaded with the SS package and power everything. He used to try to get me to wax it for $5 but I caught on quick when I saw him struggling with those long fenders and quarter panels!

The styling makes no difference to me. I am in the aftermarket parts business and let me just say that from a business perspective, I LOVE ALL VWs! The company I work for have a ton of parts for VWs and we keep plenty busy supplying those shops that choose to work on them. Whether it is a heater core or door handle, we love it when someone buys a new VW as we will count them as a customer in 3 years when the warranty runs out.

Is there anybody else...
mikemodeler replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most auto parts stores have large cans of spray paints and they should have a semi-gloss black lacquer amongst them. I buy a can of Dupli-color gloss and semi-gloss from NAPA and they run about $6 each and are great for chassis or interior painting. I always prime underneath them so I am not sure if spraying directly on the plastic will cause crazing or other problems. -
Hobby Lobby's loss is my gain
mikemodeler replied to Pastor Plastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You would have been better off not buying anything and going back today with the 40% off coupon. I have run into the same thing with old sale signs being left up and they honored them. Some stores will treat the plastic display cases in the model aisle as shadow boxes and sell them at 50% off when the shadow boxes are on sale, others won't. -
Anyone have this paintbooth?
mikemodeler replied to sportandmiah's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think Gregg reviewed this spray booth in the mag last year. Supposedly a great value as the price is very attractive but keep in mind that the blower motor in some of the other units on the market cost more than this booth does! I think Micro Mark offers this booth along with several others and this one is the cheapest by far. One of the features of this unit over some of the others is the portability of it. Lightweight and easily moved, this is ideal for someone who does not have a dedicated spray area and has to set up and tear down to spray models. I have been thinking about this one but am leaning more towards a Pace unit as it is sturdier and more to my liking. -
I Can't Access my PMs

Real or Model #168 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
voted model, a couple of things just don't add up for me. -
oilles has haft price models
mikemodeler replied to mr cheap's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, It is another type of Big Lots outlet stores. They have been expanding and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in Illinois soon if they aren't there already. They recently had a bunch of Lindberg models, supposedly leftover from a warehouse fire Lindberg had. Most of the kits were going for $7.00 or so. -
Gregg, That is good to hear, hope that you are able to bring that to market and I will submit my pre-order for 2!

Model auction tomorrow
mikemodeler replied to Pastor Plastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are they selling them in one lot or individually? There are some nice OOP kits there that would be nice to have, some are harder to find than others, others are more common. Be careful to not get caught up in the bidding frenzy and over pay for some plastic. If you have a list of what is being auctioned, I would recommend doing some research before you lay out cold hard cash. Best of luck and be sure to tell us what you got!
