Ford F-600 Medium Duty Truck
mikemodeler replied to Ken Kitchen's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ken, Nice job on the weathering and conversion. The truck looks like it has seen many a hard day's work. Any plans to offer up the cab in resin? Mike -
NEW ITALERI PETE?
mikemodeler replied to 41CHEVY's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks for all of the insight on this "new" release. I had seen a picture of the Pete wrecker that LAFD uses and was set to buy one or two of them but will not be buying any of them thanks to you all. If it was worth buying the kit for the wrecker body, I would have considered it but seems like even that is not the case. I guess we will have to wait until someone tools up a new wrecker for us! Mike -
Looks very nice. I have several of these to build and I still can't decide on a color for any of them! I have seen so many different builds and colors and I keep changing my mind! Nice combo and the wheels make it just different enough to stand out. Mike

WOW! Nice colors there to choose from! Any word on where they will be available? Online? Hobby Lobby? HobbyTown USA? Wal-Mart? I will give them a try and see how they work. I have had good luck with the MM lacquers and would hope that these aren't much different. Hopefully there will be a review of these soon to help us form a buying decision. Mike

Harry, As others have said, what a beautiful piece of work. I have never personally built a Pocher kit, probably because the amount of time and work involved to make them as nice as yours! I did work at an Alfa Romeo dealer in the early '80's and know how much work it was to keep a 1:1 version on the road though! Nice cars in nice weather but when it was damp or cold, Fuggettaboutit! Maybe there is a correlation there? Thanks for sharing your builds. Mike

Recent Magazine
mikemodeler replied to Modelbuilder1313's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember some friends doing a similar psychedelic paint job on a 1:1 car with a box fan. They had painted the area with white as the base and then used different colors "dripped" in front of the box fan to give a blown and splattered look. It definitely had a textured look to it but the results were very cool looking , at least at the time I thought so! I have been wanting to try this approach with some old scrap bodies and odds and ends of paint and just might have to put it on the list. Mike Scheve -
Excavator (resin kit)
mikemodeler replied to Tired of kit bashing's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Is that 1/25 scale or smaller? The detail looks great and if that is the way it comes, then that is some spectacular & clean casting. Now the hard part........How much? Mike Scheve -
Jeep CJ to TJ COnversion (lots of modding!).
mikemodeler replied to Enzoenvy1's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is some awesome scratchbuilding and conversion work you have going on there! Not to burst your bubble, but Revell did make a die cast 1:25 scale TJ kit based on the Rubicon Jeep used in the Tomb Raider movie. It might be worth it to pick a copy up to see if you could build that into your replica instead of converting a 30 year old kit. Either way, I am sure you will have a nice model when you are done. Try www.modelhaus.com . I have a set of their resin 1 ton wheels and tires and they are beautiful. $11 for unplated set with tires and $13 for a plated set. Great service, product and people! Mike Scheve

My mailman must have taken up model building as I have yet to see my April issue and it will be May in about 4 hours! I am anxiously awaiting the issue as it sounds fun! Mike Scheve PS- Haven't got my other hobby magazines either, thus my theory that the mailman is a builder too!

Chevy HD Cab
mikemodeler replied to Travis Waits's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The cab found in the '84 GMC pickup kit could be the basis for a build up of the truck you desire. The front end would require you to scratch build a grille and maybe re-shape the front fenders some. The Ford Louisville kit by AMT could yield the chassis to start this with. It all just depends on how much scratch building and imagination you are willing to put forth. It is unfortunate that this section of trucks (Medium Duty) has been largely ignored by kit makers and resin casters. Mike -
73' - 75' and 76' - 77' Ford Truck Grilles
mikemodeler replied to Bigjeepzz's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Nice looking grilles Jake! I am thinking that '73-75 grille might have to be ordered soon, I am just waiting on your late model IFS Ford 4WD front suspension piece! Thanks, Mike Scheve -
Issue #120 January 2007
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Happy days are here again! #120 showed up late yesterday and I have already dog eared the pages! Thanks! Mike Scheve -
A high school friend of mine discovered that the family room in his house was once a garage and the overhead door was behind the wall. He opened it up to allow a car inside his family room and now his fully restored, gold spinner award winning '67 Camaro Pace Car Convertible sits on display. He also has several "spare" bedrooms that are lined with NOS replacement parts for his collection of approximately 10 first generation Camaro's that based upon the current market, are outperforming any mutual fund! Needless to say, he is a confirmed bachelor and enjoys his passion for cars. Mike scheve

airbrush recommendation
mikemodeler replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you have a Michael's nearby, check their ad and take the 40% off coupon in and get yourself a new airbrush there! A $50 airbrush would be $30 with the coupon. Also might want to check Hobby Lobby on line as you can usually get a coupon to use at the store. Same deal as Michael's. You might also want to check Micromark as they run sales all the time and just might have a bargain airbrush. Never tried the "El Cheapo" that Wal- Mart sells but that might be a option too. Issue #120.............
mikemodeler replied to SoCalCarCulture's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Didn't they swap a front end on a Magnum wagon on an episode of Overhaulin ? Maybe Chrysler had that in mind all this time! Well, at least we know how to drive on the right side of the road! Mike Scheve -
Issue #120 January 2007
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Gregg, You mentioned the Feb/March issue, what about the January issue? I have the December 2006 mag, number 119 and the next one should be the January 2007, number 120, correct? If it was mailed awhile ago, I did not get it (yet)and supposedly my subscription is good thru May 2007 and I haven't gotten a renewal notice either. Maybe the renewal notice and the mag will show up together? Thanks, looking forward to the contest pics! Mike Scheve -
G & J , I know that you got behind on the magazine and was wondering when the January 2007 (#120) issue would be out? I am in need of some reading material as I don't feel like firing up the heater in the garage to do some painting! Thanks, Mike Scheve

Cowl induction hood for 1969 camaro
mikemodeler replied to camaro-boy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Your English and spelling is better than a lot that I have read lately on many forums. The hood you seek is going to be a resin piece and I will have to think about some other vendors that might have what you are looking for. AFX/N resin has had some issues with getting orders out in a timely fashion due to various reasons, that is why I will scour my notes and see what i can find. Mike Scheve -
I like the look of it and would have to say that it falls into the "definitely different" category. Whatcha gonna haul on it? Mike Scheve

mikemodeler replied to jacky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jacky, Thanks for the reminder, I will be there, along with my two tax deductions! Momma is out of town that weekend so I better save up my allowance and empty my piggy bank! Mike Scheve -
Is this true..Ricky Couch very ill??
mikemodeler replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Never met the man but always admired his creativity in the pages of the model magazines. I will keep his family in my prayers and hope that he makes a miraculous recovery. Thank you for letting us know about Ricky. -
List of Who makes what
mikemodeler replied to Ayatollah's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Kinda like the "Field of Dreams" movie.....If you build it they will come. I know having a central location to refer to when trying to find something is better than a scratch pad of notes and outdated websites. Thanks, Mike Scheve
