They're kidding, right?
Mark replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of many fishing expeditions clogging eBay, which is why I don't spend much time there anymore... -
Actually, the 3W coupe (and possibly the roadster) have some funkiness going on with the trunk panel lines. The panel between the roof and trunk lid on the 3W doesn't have a panel line, but it is "stepped" leaving the "tulip panel" slightly higher than the leading edge of the lid. I used that "step" as a guide to scribe in a panel line, then knocked that panel down level with the trunk lid. It's a small short cut with the tooling. Too, I have seen more recent production 3W kits, the body tooling seems to have a lot of wear and slop to it. Early, cleaner kits can still be found, those will have cleaner bodies (still need to scribe that upper deck lid line though) and tires with the Goodyear lettering which was later wiped off.

None of the Revell Deuce kits (5W coupe, 3W coupe, highboy roadster) have rumble seats. The 5W has a separate trunk lid, but it isn't hinged nor are there parts to finish the trunk area.

I used to sell some of my brother's stuff when I set up at shows and swap meets. The day after one of them, I dropped by his house to give him a couple hundred bucks. Right after I gave him the money, he told me to go for a ride...we went to a department store, he grabbed a cart, wheeled it down to the appliances, grabbed a microwave oven and tossed it into the cart. Another time, he came back from the York train show to a dead refrigerator, another trip to Hershey resulted in replacing a washing machine the next day. Me, I got laid off last May (knew it was coming for about a year). Got the check for my accrued paid time off (about six weeks' worth) the same day I had the front lawn torn up to replace a collapsed clay pipe taking the waste water from the house to the sewer. Pretty much the same amount as the PTO check...

Are there any wheels out there like this?
Mark replied to 2zwudz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The original issue '39 coupe had "snowflake" wheels. Not sure what the deal was with Monogram putting Pontiac wheels in both '39 Chevy kits... -
"Holy Grail" Models?
Mark replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Check the chassis in the old and new kits. I seem to recall them being mirror images of one another (gas tank/spare tire well are assymetrical on those cars). I wonder which one is correct? -

In 1/25 scale, closest thing would be the stock wheels from the Monogram 1/24 scale '69 GTO. The wheels in the currently available '70 Trans-Am may be similar. They're on the large side for 1/24, and on the right tires (not the Monogram ones) will resemble the wheels pictured. -
They've already done the Ghost of the Red Baron kit, which is mostly (if not all) plated. So they do have access to plating equipment or facilities. It's a new thing for Atlantis though, their previous kits have been molded in color and clear only.

Coronavirus (Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson tested positive)

I prefer my beverages, both hot and cold, from north of the border. -
The originals aren't as nice as that. The clear glass usually isn't clear, as it reacts with the acetate body. Some X-EL repros are styrene, later ones can be ABS. Since it's a repro, go ahead and detail it to your liking. The "new" Johan and/or Best Models may have made a resin interior but I'm not certain.
-
IF it is an original, then I'd leave it alone. That said, are you sure it's original? The X-EL reproductions have plastic pins holding the chassis in.

Salvino got stuff they wanted, that Atlantis likely wasn't going to do anything with. Atlantis seems to be doing the "easier" items first (no plating or vinyl tires, though they have done a couple of kits with plating). Hopefully those do well enough that they can dig into any automotive items they got.

Atlantis got everything the "new Revell" didn't want, that was over here.

Collection of modeling supplies
Mark replied to dragmodels44's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
At most swaps and shows I have set up at, the first table comes with two admissions (seller, one helper). Most times I split the table with the "helper", as did the vast majority of people setting up. And never did the person putting the show on object to this way of doing things. -
I can't remember ever seeing one in resin, not even a copy of the wagon.

The Skylark was the Buick version of the Tempest/F-85. AMT made one, but it was a wagon. For a two-door sedan or convertible, I'd look at the AMT '62 LeMans body (Jo-Han F-85 is a bit wider as I recall). Second choice would be to get the roof from the '63 Tempest altered-wheelbase funny car, and rework as needed. The AMT '61 Tempest has a four-door sedan roof. With any of these, the trunk lid and taillight panel will come in for a bunch of rework/scratchbuilding on the builder's part.

Coronavirus (Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson tested positive)

I just heard about a couple of knuckleheads getting into a fistfight at a grocery store. Probably fighting over TP or hand sanitizer. Likely the same people who get into fights over toys at Christmas time... -

Only a handful of people might think it's going to "just go away". But if we handle it properly here, things should go better than everywhere else so far, as we've got the benefit of seeing what worked (and what didn't) in all the other places where this flared up first. Don't treat it as a joke, but then again don't panic either. Neither extreme will do you any good. -
Can you identify the source of this decal sheet?
Mark replied to styromaniac's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Good guess maybe... I thought it could be a 'Vette, but I never had an MPC '64 or '65. I remember another sheet I have that I thought was from a '65, because it had '65 license plates that I used on something else. Now it will bug me, what kit is that one from? -
The High Cost of the Hobby
Mark replied to Nitrobarry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Though some of us spend much more than others, over the years I have found that pretty much everyone I ever met or spoke to in this particular hobby tends to live within their means. They all seem to have their priorities in order too; that is, they aren't spending money on this stuff that should go to the mortgage payment, or have huge credit card balances or other debt. Maybe on average our vehicles aren't as new as others', or we don't go on vacations as often (and stay out of the casinos too). Is it that the type of person we are in those respects, is the type who gravitates to hobbies? -

I once told a lady that I worked with..."I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you walk away..." Can't do that anymore...

If it is MPC, the BM/SP classification would point to a sports car. Corvette, maybe? But the surfing related stuff would go in another direction altogether... -

Why is divorce so expensive? Ask the people involved, they'll tell you it's worth it! I'm here all week, folks...try the veal, and don't forget to tip your waitress... -
Looking for AMT 63 Thunderbird Promo info
Mark replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The promos are not styrene. Not having a 'Bird promo, I'm not certain which material was used other than "not styrene".
