  1. Sorry, I don't. I got out of model cars about 1970 and went back to airplanes. The only model cars I bought in the '70s were two Monogram '69 Camaros (I was driving one at the time), one Mono '66 Chevelle, and one AMT "Old Pro" Nova. I never saw the Ventura or the Novacaine on the hobby shop shelves so have no idea when they came out. Come to think of it, I did buy a couple other cars in the '70s--the "Countdown" reissues of the '66 Mustang and '69 Chevelle and '62 Corvette, the reissued '66 AWB Mustang street freak, and the MPC '57 Chevy gasser, but I never got any of them actually built except the two Monogram '69 Camaros. I didn't get back into serious car modeling until the mid-'80s, with the AMT '68 Camaro, Monogram '70 Boss 429 Mustang, and a JoHan Maverick resissue. Been pretty much keeping up with the hobby ever since.
  2. Just checked--mine arrived in Philly this morning at 10:19, and is scheduled to be delivered Monday, the 24th by 8:00 PM. But my post office has a sign up saying they'll be closed Monday at noon, so I guess I won't see mine until Wednesday. Oh well, something to look forward to.
  3. Very nice! Old customs aren't really my thing but as you know I do appreciate rescues and restorations of old survivors, so, Well done and model on!
  4. To me, "gifted" means a little more of a big deal was made out of the transfer. But maybe that's just me. I don't normally use the term.
  5. Okay, you got DIBS on orange, but I don't believe that was a factory color in '68. Not that that should stop you from doing it, of course. In fact, doing it in "Day Two" paint frees you up to use aftermarket wheels/tires, etc., too.
  6. It really is FUN to try to fix up an old build into presentable condition, whether it's yours or someone else's. When you accept that your final result is going to be less than perfect, it can really free you up to enjoy the journey--and the history of the thing.

  9. Pretty cool! It'll look even better if you cut your flame decals along the door lines and then hit them with a decal setting agent or solvent.

  11. HAHAHAHA! Thanks for the vote of confidence but I'm not a '68 Chevelle expert. Not even really a fan--I always thought the '69 was a MUCH better looking car (the whole grille of the '68 never looked right to me). But I will be comparing it to the AMT '69, and the AMT '68 El Camino, and a Danbury Mint '68 Elky I have just for overall size/shape relationships. Will be seeing if its chassis can be used under the AMT '69, and what other parts might be useful, and so forth, but I won't be getting into the weeds on upholstery patterns or radio knob size or details of that sort. I'll leave that to others. I'm mainly interested in the basic shape. If that's good, I'll be happy. And I'm expecting to be. It almost HAS to look better than the cheap Testor 1/24 diecast currently filling the '68 Chevelle spot on my shelf. BTW, I'll be painting mine red with a black vinyl top, so DIBS on that scheme.
  12. Not so. I believe '65 was the first year the disks became standard, but even then they could be deleted in favor of drums for a credit (who would do that?).

  14. It does look good at first glance, but a lot of that is because we've all been looking at it for 50 years and it's what we're used to seeing. It's actually a little bit sharper/sleeker than the real car. The Monogram 1/24 '65 is just the opposite, a little more bulbous or inflated looking than the real car. So is the front end of the Revell '67 roadster, but they got that under control with the '67 coupe, which has a very accurate body, as do their '63 coupe and roadster snappers. The MPC Sting Rays (most often encountered these days as the oft-reissued '67) are almost identical in body shape to the AMTs.

  16. I bought a Maverick and a Comet in the '80s. The Maverick didn't have the 427 SOHC at that time, only the 429, but the Comet still had the SOHC, so I borrowed it from that. Dunno what was in the last-issue Comets. And I have no idea why the Comet remained available for another decade while the Maverick disappeared.

  19. I must own 6 or 8 copies of this kit but have never gotten one together. Been fiddling with one since the '70s (1st issue) and another one for a decade or more. Between the front fender fit, the crummy door/window pillars, and the incorrectly shaped lower corner of the side glass, I just haven't been able to pull one together. One kit donated its rear end and bumper to correct a Revell '69, which I got pretty far along. I still hope to get at least one built one of these days. Best of luck to you on your project!
  20. I built one stock about 25 years ago. Restored an original survivor from 1963 a couple years back. And have bought many copies of this kit, in several different boxes, for parts to restore a whole bunch of original annual '63-'67 AMT Vettes in my stash. The kit is an absolute parts mine--big and small block engines, Webers, 6-71 blower, American mags, slicks, etc. The Revell snapper has a more accurate shape, though. In fact, if you want to build a stocker (or don't want to change anything other than color and/or wheels/tires) and don't care about engine details, I'd recommend the Revell snapper over the AMT.

  22. Very clean build! What you've created is a homebuilt Shelby "wannabe" or clone, thousands of which prowled the streets of America back in the day. It's a real late '60s-early '70s period piece, and I love these things! Well done and model on!
