The Tropical Shine sticks are nice, but expensive. Best I've ever used are the TRIM brand but they're hard to find. Walmart doesn't have the right ones anymore, and it looks like KMart just closed them out.

What non-auto model did you get today?

Reminds me of one of my favorite T-shirts: EARTH FIRST! We'll strip-mine the other planets later. -

VERY nice, and extra points awarded for the yellow surrounds on the hood scoops, something most modelers don't bother to do. (It IS a pain.) Well done and model on!

Does that help anyone? Now get back out there and GITTER DONE! -
I don't believe it is.

What a heartwarming Christmas Eve story! Thanks for sharing it! I'm surprised too that a CO2 gun would work that well. I have a fairly high powered break-barrel .22 airgun and it only JUST does the job on squirrels out to about 15 yards.

Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take

I'd be even happier if Revell would offer to send out new nosepieces for everyone who bought the Mach I. -
Another wildly productive year: 2018 completions
Snake45 replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Model Cars
Someone has to explain to me how you get more views and replies for NOTHING AT ALL than I get for most of my actual builds! Oh well. At least no one suggested that you should have built a different kit of NOTHING, or posted pics of their own build of NOTHING that was better than yours! -
I see that there's no episode of Street Outlaws Memphis on tonight. How will I get through my Monday without JJ, Tricia, Precious, Doughboy, Ziptie, Old Heavy, and The Heifer? A chase is a race!

There are several entire TV networks/channels who seem to have nothing but people so affected associated with them. More than that I probably should not say.

Got this one in a swap with Bill (GTX6970) a couple years ago. Something about it (possibly the American mags) spoke to me and I just had to have it! At first glance, it had “good bones”--complete (except for a missing right taillight), and the blue paint, while not perfect (nor a factory color), seemed to be workable. It just needed some trimwork, and to have the comically jacked rear end lowered a bit. First order of business (after disassembly) was to fill the sinkholes in the roof C-pillars (typical of this kit), then mask off the body to airbrush Model Master Black Chrome Trim on the vinyl top, tailgate panel and lower body sides. The blue paint (probably Testor enamel) was fairly shiny and looked too thin to polish, so I just left it alone. I polished the glass, and my beloved Silver Sharpie made (relatively) quick if very careful work of all the chrome trim. I left the black interior alone, but the chassis was a mess. Original Builder must have used a quarter of a tube of glue on the front suspension, and it turned out to be impossible to remove the left front wheel from the spindle. I ended up razor-sawing the axle stub off, drilling it out of the wheel, and making a new axle stub out of Evergreen styrene rod. What a pain! The right side had to be broken free and re-glued at the correct angle. At the rear, I broke all the glue joints at the top of the rear axle (shocks), bent the rear suspension up as best I could, and re-glued it in place. Didn't get it down quite as much as I'd have liked, but I did get a more reasonable ride height/rake on the thing. I can live with it. Final task was to make the right taillight. I fabricated this from a clear plastic blueberry container from Walmart that I literally dug out the trash. I measured it with a dial caliper, cut it with an Xacto, folded it, and “painted” it by coloring it on both sides with a red Sharpie. This all took over an hour but my engineering was so precise that the piece snapped right into place on its first fitting, and I had to worry it out with the Xacto! I put a couple dots of Tacky Glue on it to make sure it stays in place, then snapped it back in. All told, between the masking and painting, the front and rear suspension repairs and modification, and the taillight fabrication, I had two or three times as much time in this as one of my typical “rescue jobs”--probably around 20 hours, maybe more. Here's what it all looks like. The nonfactory solid blue imperfect paint looks like an Earl Scheib or high school/home shop job, and the aftermarket mags place it perfectly in my imaginary late '70s-early '80s car club, “The Retrobates.” Here's a shot of my homemade taillight. I think it actually looks and fits better than the kit part. And here it is with my Motor Max '70 El Camino. The diecast is just a little bigger, though I don't think it's a full 1/24. These pics shows how the shape of the Motor Max '70 roof is a bit off, but still, these two look pretty good together on the shelf. As always, comments, welcome, and Thanks Bill for the opportunity to work my Snake-Fu on it!

How to paint ' headliners ' etc,.....
Snake45 replied to Speedfreak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mask off the windows on the outside (before painting the exterior color), shoot your white on the inside, then mask off the inside white, clean up any overspray on the outer body, and proceed as usual. For white headliners, I've also been known to use 3M white vinyl tape, run side-to-side so the seams look like seams in a fabric headliner. -

Just got mine, WOOHOO! Will try to get a good look at it (and the Chevelle) this afternoon. -
One of my projects will be based on a Trumpeter '63 ragtop, the only version of this kit I ever had the chance to buy. I don't care for ragtops so I just got a resin sedan body for it. I'm planning to move the wheelbase on a Rat Packer back and put it on a '66 Nova pro street chassis. I'll use the '66 interior on that one, too, if it can be made to fit/work. Not super-concerned about accuracy, just going for a cool modern street bomber. I'm pretty sure I have a stock '65 resin body too. Don't remember if it has an interior or not. If it does, I'll probably do that one as a late '60s high school hot rod somewhat in the same vein as yours. I'll put it on a '66 Nova stock chassis. You don't see many streetable 1G Nova models built, so I'm cheering you on, here.

Snake45 replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
No problem. Hope it works out for you. I still hope to build mine someday. I'd have already built it if it were a 185 instead of a 180. I might still do the conversion yet. I built at least one, maybe two of these as a kid and would love to do it again. Gonna do a Tri-Pacer, too, and hopefully convert another one to a taildragger Pacer. -

I hope to use the new front end parts on the Mach I. Dunno yet what I'll do with all the leftovers but I'll think of something. -

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I respect your commitment to GITTIN ER DONE! and the spirit of the build. Since most people have off New Year's Day and would be able to work on models that day, I'm extending the deadline to midnight, January 1. Just post that you GOTTER DONE before midnight January 1/2 and post finished pics before the end of the week and I'll officially deem you having finished by the end of the year. Does that help? Would it help you to GITTER DONE to leave off the decals for now and just get it together and "driveable"? You can always go back and put them on at your leisure later. Does that help? -

Snake45 replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I went back to my original message and added your name and town so somebody else didn't try to hijack the deal before you got together. (As Letterman used to say, "There is no OFF position on the Genius Switch.") He left his email and is expecting someone to contact HIM. I'd go ahead and email him now if I were you. Nothing irritates me more than leaving clear directions on how to contact me and having them ignored.
