What are your favorite Show Cars ?
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I thought of one I really liked--Alexander Brothers '66 Barracuda. I'm gonna build a model "inspired by" this one someday. This board won't let me hot-link the image (I tried) but you can see it here: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/attachment.php?attachmentid=64420&stc=1&d=1236048070 -
Testors Pantera built straight from the box. Didn't even paint it, since the black plastic was pretty “solid,” but I did spend many hours polishing the plastic. Trim painted with Testor Black Chrome Trim for some contrast. Most of the color on this one is on the inside so a few interior shots to start with. As always, thanks for looking and comments are welcome. ________________________________________

"Guilty Pleasures" Kits?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
RMVW, how's the AMT '53 Vette snapper kit? I've heard it's better than the glue kit. True? -
Everybody's restless, and they got no place to go Someone's always tryin' to tell them Something they already know So their anger and resentment grow... Don't it make you want to rock and roll, All night long? (I'll bet a LOT of you old timers own at least one album that this is on, though it was never a "hit" for either the writer or the much more famous singer who covered it.)

Moderator question: Plastic kits with metal bodies
Snake45 replied to sjordan2's topic in Diecast Corner
What I liked best about it is, it's 1/25, not 1/24, and looks right at home on the shelf with my other 1/25 GM A-body cars. If someone liked GSXs a lot more than I do and wanted a 1/25 one, I think you could prolly put this body on a detailed plastic A-body chassis and have a real nice model. The Welly diecast even has an engine and I think you could even use at least some of the parts of that, too. -

Does the Mako Shark count, or were you going for "homebuilt" rods and customs? -
I had almost the exact opposite thing happen to me in 1978. I was sitting at a traffic light in my '69 SS Camaro, beautiful Friday afternoon in May or June, I had a date with a HOT little minky (as Howard Stern would say) that night, and I thought, "Man, what a GREAT day this is!" The thought had no sooner flown out of my evil head when some moron rear-ended me so hard that he knocked me into the car ahead and messed up the front end, too. Don't remember the car that hit me but I remember the one in front that I hit. It was a '66 Chevy Bel Air or Biscayne. The guy got out, walked back, looked at his HUGE rear bumper, which wasn't even scratched, got in the Chev and drove off. Not his problem! The insurance check from the moron who hit me paid to have the damage repaired at both ends and the whole car repainted. Or mostly, anyway.

Is there an 'Ollie's' near by
Snake45 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just got back from O's. Not much selection at my store, the same stuff as already mentioned and not even all of that. Since I was there I got the '64 Ramchargers Dodge and another Revell '69 Camaro--that kit's worth $8 just for parts. No AMT kits except the slot cars. Oh, they had the Revell '66 Shelby GT350--has anyone mentioned that?--but I already have about a half dozen of those so passed. -
I use Sikkins putty, which I think is similar to your Bondo glazing putty. I apply it to bare plastic. If primer shows I need more, I put it on the primer. The stuff has a "hot" base which eats into and bonds nicely with both plastic and paint. Here's some of that Sikkins on a project I'm currently working. One note on these putties: Apply them in THIN layers--no more than 1/16". Apply them too thick and you'll have all kinds of problems down the road. If you need it thicker than that, apply a thin layer, sand that somewhat smooth, then apply some more, etc.

Whats the story on the "Switchers" ?
Snake45 replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Uhhhh, isn't that an AMT Double Dragster with blower setup from the '53 Stude (or maybe '62 Corvette)? -
What kit did this grille come from?

Thanks, Bob. Very interesting and informative. -
Moderator question: Plastic kits with metal bodies
Snake45 replied to sjordan2's topic in Diecast Corner
I posted a kit '68 Chevelle diecast kit here in the Diecast section and it got virtually no attention at all. I posted a diecast '70 GTX on which I'd laid several hours of model-fu skills in the Under Glass section, where it got a lot of attention and many favorable comments. And then it got moved down here to Diecasts and no one's seen it since. So I guess by the rules in this thread, I can post my Revell diecast kit American Graffiti '55 Chevy and Bullitt Mustang and Charger in the Under Glass section. Good to know. Looks like I can also repost the '68 Chevelle kit up there "legally," too (unless a moderator wants to just move that post). Come to think of it, I have '68 and '69 Camaros and a '66 GTO built from metal-body kits, too. I have quite a few "modeled on" and improved diecasts along the same line as that '70 GSX, but I'm not going to waste time photographing and posting them to the Diecast section, as it seems that the kind of person who looks at this section doesn't care about such things. Sigh. -
9 Inch Slicks--What Are They Good For?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I don't have that, and being laid off at the moment, don't have 8 or 9 or 12 bucks or whatever to put into front tires on this little happy-fun project. I'll be using genuine '60s AMT Firestone Supremes, though, to keep it retro. -
"Guilty Pleasures" Kits?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup. You've crystalized my thoughts on this kit exactly. When I started this one, I was going to raise the body crease and wheel openings, and then thought, with more than a dozen Revell kits in the Snakepit, why bother? Instead, I'm building this one quasi-"pro touring," with some modern oversized wheels and rubber band tires. They seem to fill the wheel openings pretty nicely. It'll have another surprise on it, too, but that will have to wait till I'm finished with it. -
'65 Chevelle Modified Production--FINISHED Pics 10/7
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Very cool, Mack! I built something similar when I was a kid, but that model's long gone...I think I do still have parts of the body shell, though. I DO still have this one, which I kind-of converted to a Sedan Delivery. I think your Nomad and my SD would be into the Gasser class. -

"Guilty Pleasures" Kits?
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's that fifth MPC '69 Camaro, the one that went to the paint shop today. I have about 20 hours or more in sanding and straightening this body and making subtle changes and improvements, such as scribing in the body panel lines. I did what I could with the little backbirth but it still looks like ass. Oh well. I'm going a slightly different way with this one, a direction that actually capitalizes on this body's inherent flaws. Will post pics when I get it finished, hopefully in the next month or so. -
A six step program for fun with the Revell Ed Roth 1957 Chevy kit
Snake45 replied to Steve_L's topic in Model Cars
Ya can't argue with a man with a plan! That Revell snapper '57 is a nice kit. I've had one ready to go into the paint shop for about two years now--hope to get it squirted soon. If one wanted to build the full-detail Revell kit, you could do worse than to cut the hood out of the snapper body, and then throw all the full-detail kit body parts away and replace it with the snapper body. Nice job. It looks like you had fun with it. Model on! -

Here's three of my MPC '69 Camaros. The fourth was the AMT Yenko version I built for my son (a Fast & Furious fan) and the fifth now has a coat of Walmart Color Place Gray Primer drying on it. -

Whats the story on the "Switchers" ?
Snake45 replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hope to build mine soon. I think I'm going to do it together with the AMT Fruit Wagon. From looking at the box art pics, it looks pretty good, with the exception of the front suspension, which looks high. But that looks easily fixable by scratchbuilding a little "hanger" bracket for the suicide front spring, instead of mounting it where/how they'd have you do it. That's what I'm gonna do, anyway. -
