  1. Wow, never heard of that. What year Camaro is it? And I thought of another one: I'm pretty sure I have a Lindberg '79 or '80 Mustang "Cobra" molded in a bright medium green.
  2. I'd try degreasing with rubbing alcohol. And then I'd try BMF from another area of the sheet, or another sheet.
  3. No pain--no problem!
  4. It was a lot of fun yesterday looking for kits that were molded in orange. Anyone want to play again, this time with kits molded in green? I'll list the ones I can think of. (No Jeeps or military vehicles, please--that's too obvious.) Revell '70 Cuda AAR (first hideous issue)--close to SubLime. AMT '66 Skylark, Craftsman issue--medium green. Revell '51 Thames panel--metallic/pearlish green. Monogram Callaway Corvette Speedster--metallic/pearlish green. Monogram "Green Hornet" early '60s T altered--bright medium green. I have a '69 or '70 JoHan Ford Maverick promo molded in Anti-Establish Mint. I'm sure there are at least a few others....
  5. If you don't want to look up the correct firing order, go with 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 (I can recite that number in my sleep). It's the correct order for small and big-block Chevy V8s and many other engines of the era (though not all) and correct or not, it looks properly "busy." Whatever you do, DON'T just put all the wires on the left side on the left and the ones on the right side on the right. That makes your engine look like its hair is parted down the middle.
  6. I'm putting the Pontiac in a drag Altered I hope to build entirely out of AMT Parts Packs parts, just to see if it can be done. I might at some point have some use for all those engine guts (workbench dio or some such), but I'm not going to glue them up inside the engines, that's for sure.
  7. Keystone Klassic Kustomags from the AMT '69 Riviera annual. American Torq-Thrusts from the AMT '55 Nomad. Cragar S/S from the JoHan '66 Marlin. Apaches from the AMT '67 Camaro annual. Custom mags (dunno what they were) from the AMT '66 Corvette roadster annual.
  8. I did 400-level college term papers that required far less effort than this.

Not sure what year this is supposed to be--early '90s? Anyway, AMT SnapFast painted with a blend of Model Master Stop Light Red and Kiln Red. I think I was trying replicate "Flame Red" or some name like that. I like the color.
  10. Haven't used that product, but I use a couple other things for "foil" trim. 1. Aluminum tape from Walmart. A giant roll was about $8 IIRC. The stuff is relatively thick and won't burnish down tight like BMF or other foils, BUT I've found it's just the thing for certain rocker panel trim and things of that nature. I've also cut it into thin strips and used it for window sill trim. Cheap, fast, easy, what's not to like? 2. Common kitchen foil and Micro Metal Foil Adhesive. This combo will do about 90% or more of what BMF will do, look just as good, and all at a fraction of the cost. Plus, there are no "bad batches" and no "shelf life" issues. For the price of one sheet of BMF you can buy enough kitchen foil and MMFA to last you a lifetime. Been using the stuff for years.
  11. Your part looks pretty darn nice to me. BTW, there's an exposed-headlight '69 Judge in the brand-new issue of Musclecar Review. Good photo showing the shape, which isn't always the case.
  12. BTW, I just wanted to say a big THANKS! to everyone who participated in this thread. I was sure that I was overlooking some great candidates, and y'all really came through!
  13. Shiny! Is that the kit steering wheel? I don't remember mine looking like that. But I'm gettin' old and could be wrong....
  14. Can I get an AY-men from the choir?
  15. Try google-imaging both colors and see which looks most like "your" car. Here's the google-image for 71 Pontiac castillian bronze: https://www.google.com/search?q=71+gto+rosewood&biw=1253&bih=640&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=HXMTVPC5DIi3yATFmYLACQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg#tbm=isch&q=71+pontiac+castillian+bronze
  16. I am sensing the spirit of "Big Willie" Robinson....
  17. Wow. And I thought I had an awesome collection of '66 Skylarks and '68 Javelins. You win, sir. I doff my plastic hat to you!
  18. OM 617, that's some darn fine rescue work! Well done!
  19. Happy happy joy joy! I was not only able to FIND that kit in the terrifying Snakepit, but actually extricate it from its entombment in the Wall of Styrene! 1/25 scale, check...good solid color, check...reasonable approximation of '69 Chevy Hugger/Monaco orange, check! I think we may have a winner! Thanks SO much for this suggestion, Chris! You are officially My New Favorite Person of the Day!
  20. Just made my semiannual pilgrimage to the hobby shop in the next town, and scored an open, "on consignment" copy of that kit for just $15! I don't think you can buy the Hawk/Testor or Monogram P-51Ds for that anymore! Happy happy joy joy!
  21. Has anyone ever offered resin '69 GTO exposed headlights, or a grille that includes them? I supposed I could clone the headlights from a '72 and fake 'em with that, but the 1/25 lights might look small on a 1/24 Monogram '69.
  22. Ah, okay. I've seen a lot of criticism of that '74 snapper body. I'm not an expert on Cudas but am trying to get one of these together and will try to fix what I can on it. Thanks!
  23. Are you sure that it's factory paint? I'm seeing a reddish tint in the pic you posted so my first guess would be the Rosewood. If it looks browner in real life, it's the Castillian Bronze. I've seen pics of the Castillian Bronze where it looked like it had a brick/rust red cast in it, but the official paint chip is definitely brown, little if any red in it at all. Just took another look at the color chip book. The Rosewood is pretty brown, too--not much red in it either. Chevy had the Rosewood color in the '71 line and the chip looks the same there. If that car has a reddish tone to it in real life, it might well be a nonstandard paint.
  24. The polish tub is shown in the chassis photo. You can get the stuff at Walmart, and it's cheap. I've been polishing paint and plastic with it for more than 20 years. Maybe close to 30.
  25. I THINK the turquoise was a custom mix of Olds Engine Blue and Testor Jade Green Metalflake, IIRC. Or something like that. The green is Model Master Brit Green metallic over a primer of MM 34086 Olive Drab Green military.
