  1. Here's what I started with, a couple glue bomb Monogram GTOs, one '68 and one '69. The '68 was actually complete and painted a flattish gray (like the hood in this pic) when I started but I stripped the paint before this pic was taken. Taking inventory, I decided I definitely had enough good parts for one model, possibly two if I didn't get too anal about factory correctness or underhood details. Decided to proceed with the '68 as I already had a '69 Judge under construction. (It's STILL "under construction," theoretically, and has survived three paint jobs that didn't please me so far. I'll get it right yet, I swear....) Filled the hole in the hood with J-B Weld (one of my Very Favorite Things): Spent quite a bit of time getting the front bumper and front valence to mate up to the body to my satisfaction. Here's an interim shot of primer at some point in the process: When I got it where I could live with it, I primed the body in Floquil Reefer White and sprayed it bright red Krylon from Walmart. Dig my hi-tech paint stand, a quart beer bottle I've been using for more than 30 years. Cheap is good! More to come...computer's acting up and I don't want to lose what I have here so far...back in a minute...
  2. Good to know, thanks. Now, to find Ed Fluck!
  3. The rear bumper of that blue '68 Javelin promo/friction toy I just "restored" was molded in a medium/dark green, so it's logical to assume that whole Javelins were molded in green as well. I have a red one, but wouldn't I love to find a green one!
  4. I have several different boxings of this kit, the oldest being a Countdown from the late '70s and the newest being a Boyd Coddington thing. I think the actual kit used here was a late '80s or '90s boxing, photo box art, and molded in red. I believe I bought it "used, opened, maybe even started a little" at a club meeting for $3 or something like that.
  5. Now THAT is an interesting idea! Being a military modeler as well, I have all kinds of flat coats around here. I do believe I'm going to give that a try. Thanks much!
  6. Started this one a LONG time ago, then a couple years ago finally got the urge to kick it through the goal posts. Completely out of the box. Paint is Model Master British Green lightened a little with Turn Signal Amber; cleared with Model Master Clear Top Coat and polished out. The kit decals were a joy to work with except they didn't fit around the flap opening of the cowl induction thingie. Tried to touch them up with white but it was TOO white against the decal on the dark body; found out that Model Master 36622 Camo Gray--the underside color of USAF airplanes from the Vietnam War--was a near-perfect match. I don't particularly like this kit--I think some of the body shape is off--but I was pretty happy with how this model came out, finally. I think Revell's 1/25 snapper '70 Chevelle has the best body overall of any, but hey, I'm not an expert on '70 Chevelles.
  7. Oh man that is fantastic! Mine's molded in Petty Blue. Do you have a kit number on the green one? ETA: Never mind, found a picture of the box on google. Now I just need to find one.
  8. Don't forget, 1/144 scale is 1/6 scale in 1/24 scale. Would make a nice RC model for a diorama, if you get my drift.
  9. At the moment, 1/32. Revell does the -1A (old kit but I think it was just reissued) and Tamiya has a new but very spendy -1 "Birdcage."
  10. While looking for something else entirely (ain't it always the way?) I just found a forgotten AMT "Predecorated" '71 Duster 340. I'd always thought it was painted green, but now it looks like it might have actually been molded in something approximating Sassy Grass Green. Will have to take a better look at that thing soon...might have to put that near the top of the To-Build Pile....
  11. Mocked up a Double Dragster Fiat chassis today in anticipation of a future project. Just for the helluvit, I measured the wheelbase. It scales out to 102", if that little factoid is of interest to anyone. Just for giggles, I held up an AMT '66 Mustang funnycar body over it. It came darn close to fitting. The Mustang wheelbase was actually just a bit shorter, maybe two scale inches (stock Mustang wheelbase was 108"), but you could either live with it or make it work perfectly with slight tweaking. Coincidence? Or just...interesting? PS: Wheelbase of the C1 (pre-'63) Corvette is also...102". Do with this information what you will.
  12. Those are wild and amazing! Is that a '62 or '63 top on that '59 Impala? Never seen that before and I like it!
  13. I hear it's the Gold Standard of Corsair models. I have two--a -1D and a -2 nightfighter--but have never built one. I'm mainly into the -4 and later versions with the 4-blade prop.
  14. I just got the Revell '62 Gasser kit yesterday. I think I'm gonna paint the body and top Honduras Maroon and put them (and the interior) on this chassis. And then use the gasser chassis on another project...maybe a '63 Corvette, or maybe a '57....
  15. I don't doubt it. I have a Marlin in that color.
  16. Last time I checked, I'd built an even dozen Corsairs in 1/48 scale. Photographed 'em all together one day. If anyone's interested, I have individual pics of them too. Kits are by Monogram, Lindberg, Hasegawa, Academy, Heller (3 different kits), and Otaki. I still have kits from Hobbycraft, Tamiya, and Hasegawa (different kit) to build. Variants here include F4U-1D, F4U-4 (early), F4U-4 (mid-production), F4U-4N, F4U-5, AU-1, and F4U-7.
  17. I can't find it on your site, but I see you sell a '71 Maverick kit. I'm in desperate need of a chromed (or even unchromed) Maverick rear bumper if you'd be willing to sell me one.
  18. Thought of another one: The Chevy Rally Wheels with no center caps from the '70 ZR1 Corvette. LOTTA cool ways to use those, from winter beaters to street racers to full-on racers.
  19. Yeah, but those didn't come on the cars I build, or during the era of which I build 'em. To be honest, I simply don't DO engine wiring anymore for any car with a hood. Only for something with an exposed engine, such as a '60s dragster or altered.
  20. Yeah, I did think about that (see original post). And I might do it still, as I have a couple more AMT '62s and I really don't care for the back end of the '60. I'm also thinking of combining the front end of the (unbuildable) Gasser MPC '57 with a '62 assend to make a single headlight, stingray-reared phantom. Thanks for the kind words.
  21. Man, that looks good!
  22. That must have been from the almost-forgotten MPC kit. Come to think of it, I think they had that in the '67, too, and I think I have one in my collection from somewhere (I've never owned that whole kit).
  23. So do I but it didn't come out of the box that way.
  24. Hate drilling plug wires? You can always cheat and use magnetos on everything.
  25. SOMEBODY's going to mention the hundreds (thousands?) of clear vac-formed slot car bodies of every imaginable type back in the '60s, so I might as well go ahead and get that out of the way.
