  1. I think that was the MPC Mark IV. I think it had a clear trailer, too. Did MPC also do a J-car? In clear? Or am I thinking of the IMC J (not in clear)?

    57 Chevy

Welcome, Andrew. I'm pretty new here myself but this is a great bunch of guys--lots of participation and enthusiasm here, and lots of help, too. That's a fine looking '57. Well done and model on!
  3. Visible V-8 and Visible Radial (airplane) engine. Nichimo did a clear P-51 Mustang in 1/48, sort of a shrunken Monogram Phantom Mustang. Never seen one but I have the un-clear version. It's simply horrible. Monogram did the B-17 with at least one clear fuselage half, maybe the whole fuselage. There have been several recent Japanese kits of airplanes with full or partial clear fuselages. I'm not going any further into that. I think there was a Renwal submarine with half the hull in clear. Revell did a couple kits in the early '60s where the body was molded in a semi-clear plastic with flakes in it. The idea was to paint it on the inside. Clear HOODS I can think of: MPC '68 GTO, MPC '67-'69 Firebirds (original issues), AMT '37 Chevy gasser. Prolly some more of those, too.
  4. Absolutely fabulous! I didn't realize he'd also run the thing with a V8 and without the body! That's what my Attempt 1 kit wants to be when it grows up!
  5. Interesting ideas about letting the flakes settle. I once did that with a "little bottle" of Testor blue metalflake just so I could get the clear blue off the top to tint a model airplane canopy. Worked great for that. Maybe it'll work again.
  6. Fabulous stuff guys! Keep it going! I'm mainly interested in 1/25-1/24 classic American Muscle but the other suggestions are also very cool!
  7. On a lark I bought a can of Krylon "Sparkle" Green figgering I can use it on SOMETHING. The stuff turns out to be a near-perfect color match for 1972 Chevy Spring Green/Pontiac Julep Green, which I just happen to need, BUT the stuff has WAY too much "sparkle" for a factory metallic paint job. Any way to take some (but not all) of the "sparkle" out of it? Thinking of maybe decanting some, thinning it WAY down with lacquer thinner, and running it through something like a coffee filter. Anyone ever tried anything like that? It won't go to waste. I'm gonna paint my Meyers Manx with the stuff. It'll be just about perfect for the molded-in, "bass boat" metalflake look for that. Might use it on a '60s custom Vette I have in mind, too.
  8. Fabulous! I'm all about the Cheap. Cheap is Good. Cheaper is Better. Free is Best Of All.
  9. If someone had told me two minutes ago that I would LIKE a purple El Camino, I'd have laughed in their face, but that thing looks FABULOUS and AWESOME!
  10. I can solve your problem in three simple steps. 1. First, paint the spokes of the California wheels gray or black. They will look 1000% better. 2. Put them on the model and take it to the contest. 3. After the contest, take the goofy wheels off and put on whatever kind YOU like for the rest of time. Everybody happy! (I can relate here because I'm not a fan of those big stupid modern wheels either.)
  11. White glue (Elmer's, Micro Krystal Kleer, Tacky Glue, etc--it's all pretty much the same stuff), or sometimes a tiny spot of clear epoxy.
  12. I found some properly sized wire in a model railroad shop. And the package was a lot MORE of it for a lot LESS money than the price typically charged by those packaging and selling for the model car crowd. Just sayin'.
  13. Sweet! I personally love snappers!
  14. I thought of another one: '80s (or maybe '90s) issue MPC '69 Camaro convertible. But that kit's just too wretched for my special Roy G. Biv collection.
  15. Thanks so much for that info, Brett! I'm gonna put this one on my shopping list!
  16. You all can thank ME PERSONALLY for the "new" Revell '62 Corvette kit. For more than 40 YEARS I wanted a Honduras Maroon '62 on Americans, and tried to figger out how to get one out of the wretched backbirth AMT kit. (Kitbash with an MPC '60? Would be easier to do a '61 from that combo, can I settle for a '61? etc etc etc.) When Model Master came out with Honduras Maroon paint, the urge became almost uncontrollable. Finally a couple years ago I couldn't take it any more, and decided to bite the bullet and Snake-slap the horrid AMT thing together OOB, more or less. Of course you've guessed the punchline already: A week after I finished the thing, Revell announced their new one. Ain't it always the way? (No hard top in the first issue of that kit, though, we had to wait for the gasser version, which I coincidentally just saw for the first time and bought yesterday.) Here the hot little mess is, anyway. It'll be moving to the Shelf of Shame soon, where it will probably be the star... Much like certain people I can think of, it looks better going away:
  17. Thanks so much for the chassis details. Very helpful information!
  18. I WANTED to paint the first one Purple Haze, just as a tribute to Jimi, but I wasn't able to get even close with a paint mix. Yeah, yeah, I know about MCW....
  19. Original/older issues of the '32 Ford Vicky, maybe? Been a while....
  20. I could swear I've seen the Superbird in SubLime. A while back I was thinking my Superbird in the stack was Petty Blue so I dug it out and it wasn't. I think it's white, or off-white. I know my Sox & Martin version of that kit is an off-white or cream color.
  21. Interesting! I built that kit and painted it Plum Crazy but I don't remember what color the plastic was. First time I read your post, for some reason I read "1971." I have a first edition of the Revell '71 GTX and it's yellow on the box (I don't know if I've ever opened that box or not) so I google-imaged it and found an issue where it's green on the box art. I wonder if that boxing was molded in green?
  22. VERY interesting! What general shade/color of green? I might be interested in tracking one of these down.
  23. That's a new one on me. Thanks so much for the info!
  24. I'm not into that particular make and model but if I were, there's MORE than enough there for me to do SOMETHING with. If you're not interested in it, I'll bet you can find someone who is who would trade you something you want for it.
