Steering wheel "Wrap"???
426-Hemi replied to 426-Hemi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Might be a little tho, I'm testing out how some of the ideas I got work and look..... So won't be real soon! Plus, I'm kinda fooling around with not a build, but something a little different then you'd see by me! I'm working out a 3D version of my avatar!!!! I have a well done toy of a Elephant, and I had to match the size to scale, turns out a 1/16th Hemi was needed and now I'm kinda piecing several parts together to make the Hemi.... Plus adding a little extra details (you know how I am!) and then got a few "other" ideas on the Elephant too........ I have to see what it take to make the engine fit the animal, and then whatever that might take, will tell me what it take to light the eyes up Orange! -

Steering wheel "Wrap"???

Yes, that would be absolutely right............ I had thought that and have scavenged my whole house looking for black ones. nothing "found" yet..... BUT that is I THINK the best way to go about this! (That is if the wire in the wrap tie isn't to, too "stiff" and bends easily around the steering wheel!) -
Yeah that was not one of MPC years that the mold went over onto the AMT line up, and being an old kit, that mold sounds like its showing some serious age..... BUT thats what happens when the company doesn't want to retool the mold.... I agree with those who mentioned the new Revell kits. yeah theres a little $$$$ involved from many years ago, BUT those kits do in fact go together VERY well in most cases, the '32 Ford 2n1 kit that I think was stated a "Limited Edition" kit from Revell would be a GREAT replacement for the one you got, just a tad older in era, but a real good kit, AND can be built out of box, 2 way, stock ford set up, and or hyped up stock ford parts, or totally custom, with a 392 Hemi as a power plant...... Being then full custom. I had that kit, and traded it but it looked great! Others I've heard that built one says it goes together just as good as the parts look out of box....

Steering wheel "Wrap"???

Glenn, Thats NOT a bad idea!!!! I know (with all my medical accidents, I have some of that tape! I EVEN have some of the fine mesh cloth stuff), that cut really thin, MIGHT do the trick! But, your right, that plastic tape they use has the small perforations in it, that would be GREAT and just need painted after application..... I WILL try that one on a spare steering wheel to see how it looks! GREAT idea!!! -
I believe thats an RMR resin truck...... I got it in trade from a friend on here..... I'm NOT sure on that it is or not, BUT I believe so!

Steering wheel "Wrap"???
426-Hemi replied to 426-Hemi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Pete, WELL thats just it, the steering wheel would have to have a spiral cut in the steering wheel, and to that end, the wheel itself, isn't thick enough to cut really, and I don't want to further weaken it as cutting I don't think is the answer, but making it wrap around in spiral form with thin tape might be just the trick! I'll have to see what the local Hobby Lobby and hobby shop has for Tamiya tape.... The wrap my Dad used, was the donut style wrap, that had holes in it that had a slight leather-like texture to it, and then it was spiral wrapped with some sort of line that was like a crafter vinyl tread..... -
OK guys, question, I need to make the leather-looking steering wheel wrap, I need to make this detail for a model of a truck my Dad owned, and sadly its one the of the details ALL my family members are going to notice because my Dad was known to have done this to just about EVERY car or truck he owned for an extended period of time. (He didn't add it if he planned to sell the vehicle, but only drove it for a short time....) SO with that, my "Father & Son" Dodge truck build, Dad's truck is needing this detail, and I can't for the life of me figure out a way to make it look right! I've tried thread, I've tried really thin ribbon, I even tried the Testors adhesive back, striping, NOTHING I've tried looks right.... Anyone have a way or know of something that may work and look a lot closer then what I've already tried!? ANY suggestion, material, etc would be GREATLY appreciated!

Yeah I had seen that be a bit of "frontal" weight on that truck once in-place..... Just thought maybe a bi-pod off the front or 2 removable stabilisers one for each corner in the front, to give it some sort of stability, or the looks there-of..... NICE way to look at it tho, the whole set up is looking good!

Hobby Lobby made my day
426-Hemi replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thats my issue tho. I can't order online! I have no credit or Debit card... so I have to find things locally, or just simply do without..... Being disabled, and fighting for Disability has its limitations (which is what I'm doing) and right now, I'm in that "waiting game" with a Lawyer, awaiting to have a hearing with a judge, for determination of my case. SO I'm on a really tight budget, and thats why I do as much trading as I do, as it does help me get things that I can support locally, to local small business.... NOW to get those said local business to carry these pens, I'd have it made! -

-I simply STILL need to find the pens, PERIOD, to buy 'em. I think I'm gonna go the 2MM as my first one! -
Tom, GAWD thats good lookin' in that color green! Mental Green. PUN intended!

Darre4n, Good to see more progress..... that front "stage" looks a little big, and far extended from the mount..... Any idea of actual extension length? I MAY do something similar, but I'm gonna do my best to keep it within closeness to the mount for weight and looks..... (I know its a model), and I know a single pole for one girl wouldn't be an issue, I just think it is just a tade to far outward.... OR add a "Bi-Pod, from set of legs to the ground that fold up..... -Storing it might be an issue tho....
