I have an issue..... ANYONE?????
426-Hemi replied to 426-Hemi's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
-That figures....... Those look GREAT Tho! -
As you'll see, I got A LOT of "peg-board", This stuff, is ungodly expensive in the amounts I have! -Not that I spent a single red-cent in any of it. See, I used to work for a business that was retail, and I myself was part of the maintenance division, so when things got to old and all or shelving got old they'd toss it and replace it with new stuff as the old stuff, wasn't made any longer or in some cases, that particular shelving company wasn't even in business anymore. SO, I'd get to look over things they had me toss and decide if it was usable for my shop or not.... A LOT of times other things were wrong and the parts couldn't be used in any other type shelving so. I'd bring it home! (My wife, loves it! She wound up getting a BUNCH of metal sale floor shelving for organization in our basement!) But anyway, this peg-board, all came to me this very way! I myself just cut it to fit where it was going to go! BUT I have stacks of it! -For hobby use the stuff is GREAT, Plus I have a place in our basement for household repairs and tools so...... Having said all that, MOST of the last places new benches were built, will have the walls covered in white peg-board for hanging purposes! BUT, first I wanted to get things in place (some of the sections of peg-board I have), have a bad corner here, or was cracked all the way across the top or bottom, but big enough to be used NOTHING smaller then a 36 by 36 piece came home! Big enough for me...... Anyway, I began the whole thing by first removing the book shelf I had above the entrance way..... It went over head of the new bench work, I then had pieces of an old nicely built office desk, that was a "built-in" version of the store I worked for, offices..... They were gonna toss the whole sha-bang, and I brought home very valuable parts of it, that are on the next lowest shelf from the book shelf, that was for a keyboard to sit on and is completely adjustable, allowing me to use it to hold my test power pack, and some test track for the trains that will slide from side-to-side over either of the 2 benches, and that shelf its mounted on is then got a light with magnifier on it. The parts organizer thats sitting on that shelf in black, I'm not sure its gonna stay there. Its merely only sitting there for the time being. A close up of all this..... A shot from the electrical/soldering bench side. With a bit more in place. Now comes the peg-board I mentioned..... What a difference that one little section makes! Sure does brighten up the area too! -That little "frame" under that black organizer is a digital picture frame that I can plug a SD camera card into to show pictures of things I'm working on without having to turn 180 degrees and look at the computer in the shop. An old one, but works pretty good for what I wanted it for! -Picked up at a yard sale for I think a dollar! Long reach on that magnifying light!!!! -Electrical bench has a power strip along the front edge..... Picked that up at a local Circuit City store that was going out of business a few years ago that was for powering they're computer area.. I think I got 2 of them (last 2 they had) for $2.00! NICE units, I have to say! That black frame thing on the right behind the sliding shelf, there, against the wall is a TV wall mount adjustable fixture, "arm"..... I plan to put a rotary tool holder on that and have it in one of 2 choice places in the shop, haven't decided yet on that location, BUT it will fold in-and-out of that area, where it is, out for use, away for "storage" out of sight/the way.... Test power pack, and wiring routing..... It will have a set of wires to power either of the 2 tracks seen here, HO & N scale. And then have a "jumper set" of wires with insulated alligator clips on it for testing things on the bench not requiring track. (Mechanical stuff) I had this all set up once before, but NEVER routed the wires down through the table, ALWAYS had them over the top (off to the side)...... This will work so much better this way! I also limited the length of the jumper set, 2 feet, MAX...... Before when the shop had the make-shift benches these were like 4 feet long and could reach the floor. a LOT of wire really not needed! Here shown is a close up of that little digital picture frame too! Plus some surrounding messes that are that way due to the work going on..... Needless to say, I got a ways to go and a lot to sort through and some supplies yet to use up, BUT the white peg board will be on top that second lowest shelf, and go up the wall all the way to the underside of that book shelf near the ceiling. Its edge will be even with the piece already on the wall, that way, I can run another section up the side of them, from the work bench surface all the way to the edge of my wifes work area bench...... As hers & mine are slightly different in height. I plan to put up a sectioning wall, her side will have a nice shelf for whatever she wants, my side is gonna be peg-board, and covered in hanging supplies! Thats it for now, more to come when more is done! (Probably when the next section of peg-board is up, and things are in-place in that area a little better.)

.....WELL now, it has been awhile...... My last rendition of this ole posting was put on hold came to a sketchin' halt when I went through a bad accident with my hands (and its still not "over" yet........... I'm going through physical therapy on that, BUT I am able to do things a bit more as well as the working the hands, helps more then I can actually say (I had to go through NO dexterity type therapy what-so-ever due to that! ANYWAY, New Years Eve hit, and the wife & I got to talking about things around the house and things that I had "stashed/stored for future use in different household projects... one of those being my shop's "reset"...... I got a LOT of supplies so.....-Had planned to do this over the summer while the weather was nice, BUT I wound up getting hurt so that was all said-and-done with for a while till I healed..... WELL, that time has returned! I'm healed enough, to do some things, so..... To get supplies used and in-place for the shop would be a GREAT thing for the household not having to deal with all my stuff just setting around! So without further waiting, I got right back to it, where I let off in July, last year! So to go back, and show what it went from: What a wreck! It was so-so usable, not the greatest, but it worked for a time! It was done here in a hurry, I had to get something going or I was gonna go crazy!!!! (And I'll admit, THAT already is a short ride! LOL) Anyway, ripped that all out and down before I got hurt: Starting to remove things! I used that ole 3 drawer dresser under the machining bench! -Why its missing! Then got right into building that area like this: Left-to-right, the bench is "split". The left side is for electrical stuff, soldering etc. The center area id decal storage! and the right side is where my train stuff will be worked on, the area nearest that yellow 4 foot level standing there. Pic taken nearest the electrical/soldering bench. The train bench furthermost away. The shelving seen behind that yellow level is where a lot of detail stuff is stored. Mostly train stuff. Now however that same area is being "set" as I had planned for most of it way back in July, over the summer. -Time was to get things moving in the right direction again, and to make the shop......more user friendly! With that comes some old thoughts.... Stay tuned, more to follow after these short messages!

....just give me a '70 'bird, with #43 on it and I'm all set! LOL -One WITH the 426 Hemi NASCAR headers that is!

Thanks Brian..... I'll be giving a look through what Scenes Unlimited has to offer! As for the build, yes, I'd LOVE to see more old school stuff too, for me tho, "Old school predates 1980..... LOL (No I'm not "that old" but old enough to know the 70's was a KILLER time for ALL 3 of the Big 3...... Myself, I'd LOVE to see more '50's Mopars..... Theres only a select few made! And to add to it, MORE Dodge trucks then whats been made and more years of them! Its sad to see how few there really are in 1/25th and even 1/24th scales! -

-Yeah, I've seen them on ebay AFTER I seen them from BnL resins a while back and just "gulped" and went yeah, I thought BnL was expensive, who was I kidding!!!??? (to myself) LOL Scenes Unlimited, you have a link to these by them? Yeah, I'm being an A-hole on the rims, I know.... I'm just "dead-set" on a specific "look" on the truck I have planned. -You go and have a look at my "Dream Truck Dodge build...... Thats where these are goin'!!!!! See: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/107712-my-dream-truck-from-the-late-1990s/ These Super Swampers are going on this truck ----^ Thats why I'm being so intent on rim and look..... Thing is, I am good on the lathe, look at some of the things on the engines I build and you'll see, A LOT of round parts, I machine myself. SO, the thought of making a insert to fit that tire, and then fitting a rim to that makes a bit more sense to me BUT if I go that route, NOTHING will be set in stone till I'm happy with it. (the fit has to be able to slip in and out easily for me to test this idea). I refuse to ruin these tires..... While I'm at it, I may even machine out a set of fender flares, to accommodate the tire width to the truck too just to look good, you know? We'll see! I did go have a look at the rims BnL has for these tires, and sadly, I'm not interested, they're too........ "new" -ish for what I'm looking to do (Saying if I "HAD" to choose something, otherwise! See, theres a story that goes with all this..... The Dodge "Dream Truck" OK? WELL that all started recently, YES, BUT the memory that got me thinking, was way back in the 1990's. My cousin & I used to build models, together regularly, Scott is still around mind you, we talk often, BUT, he was a big Chevy kid. Nothing wrong with that, we both were into "Off-Road" stuff, we both had subscriptions to "Off-Road Magazine" too.... WELL in one of the issues way back when (I can not even remember the month, or year of it right now) but there was this truck. a '55 Chevy Step-Side, GORGEOUS truck might I add, that was lifted, sitting on what I think I remember reading a Chevy Suburban 4x4 frame, shortened to fit the '55 Chevy 1 ton, that was painted Yellow, had a LS-6, 454 in it, supercharged, just all out, down-right one hellofa 4x4 show truck.... That they used for 4 wheelin'..... The title to the article was "Dr. Roost". We both LOVED what/whoever built that truck (I do to this very day), and I mentioned this to him recently and he too still recalls the love we had and money spent to get models to each build one of those trucks! -Anyway, we set out to model that great lookin' '55 Chevy..... The one thing neither of us could find? Super Swamper TSL Bogger tires!!!!!!! NO WAY, NO HOW.....-They weren't EVER made back then! IF I recall right, the date on that magazine issue was early to mid 1990's, I'd almost have to say somewhere 1992-ish. But anyway, thats the one detail we could NOT get right for that truck. "Dr. Roost" had 44 inch Super Swampers on it.....NO fender flares at all, plain ole Yellow, but TON & TONS of chrome..... Actually the Testors "yellow" 1114 is and was a perfect match for color of this truck...... WELL, now fast forward to the present day........... I'm a Dodge or well "Mopar fanatic" even was back then too! (I built A LOT of Mopar cars back then) BUT I built A LOT of other models too....... Now, I've refined myself to "Mopar only" because of a promise I had to make to get back into the hobby LOL (whole other story) SO, what I've done, is take my Mopar favorite truck, a '78 Power Wagon, giving it the works, and taking the remembering & love of "Dr. Roost" and incorporating it into this "Dream Truck" Dodge! I found the Super Swamper tires from BnL Resins WAY before this truck EVER became a real world item..... BUT kept in mind if I got the truck, ('78 Little Red Express), THIS truck would start to become a reality! And, well, here it is! Hence why I got those tires.... HOWEVER, my memory faded a bit over time but if I recall right Dr. Roost had polished Aluminum "Holes" on it......BUT I can't be 100% on that, but because I'm a Mopar guy, I just think a set of Mopar "Rallye" rims would look AWESOME wrapped in 44" Super Swamper tires!!!! Then stuffed on a '78 Dodge Power Wagon, with a few "extra's"...... I have mentioned this build to my cousin Scott, and he was like if we could have only found those tires way back when and put them on Dr. Roost we would have had a KILLER replica of that truck, and really, we did have the best we could get, (I think the 2 of us spent something to the tune of $50 at the hobby shop) to model that truck, we bought full kits for specific parts for that one build, when all said and done I think the 2 of us had 4 or 5 model kits only missing select parts!!!! BUT, we were having fun making the owner rich LOL Scott still has his model of the truck..... Mine however went through a nasty fate, and I lost it in a house fire about 6 years ago..... -I don't even have a picture of it to share but, thats all part of the faded memory I guess! Long reply, but, I thought I had to share some light on why I'm so dead-set on the look I'm trying to get with the rims on these tires, for that truck.... -

I hear ya! I will keep my eyes open OR, I'll set out to make/master my own rim to fit...... That is, if I don't find anything! As far as So Real making them and stopping a decade ago, nah...... I hear ya they don't look right in raw resin, BUT I bet once painted they will look AWESOME. just have an eye for it, and where else do you find the Super Swampers otherwise? (you don't!) Not in scale at least..... If ya don't mind me asking, what did they sell for a decade ago if ya can remember? (I know that might be asking alot) but I just gotta know! I just..... gotta know what I missed out on way back when! I MAY (I stress that word "MAY") set out to cut out an insert to fit the tire on my lathe, and make a set of my LARGEST "Mopar Rallye's" fit these tires, that how set-on this I am. Stubborn, yeah. ask my wife LOL -

So what might those all look like? I seen the resin cast Weld Mt Crusher and wasn't impressed with them from BnL. -Maybe cause they aren't "chrome" I don't know.... How do I go about finding these from the die cast source? -
I have an issue..... ANYONE?????
426-Hemi replied to 426-Hemi's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
This is true, BUT, not the type I'm looking for......... I'm looking for specifics, as I mentioned Slot type wheels as well as hole type wheels..... I'd LOVE to find Mopar "Rallye" rims to fit, but thats a long shot with how big they would need to be, (I have a set from the Monogram '71 Hemi 'Cuda), which are 1/24th scale and still fall right through the tire! -Tires once together will be going on a 1/25th scale '78 Dodge Power Wagon I'm building...... -Out of those 3 type rims, mentioned, I'll hold out some hope for one of the 3 types..... I am however, going to see what the die-cast area might have to offer! -
I have an issue..... ANYONE?????

Thanks guys! Hole diameter is 3/4 inch or 18MM. INSIDE wheel the lip of the wheel not to exceed 19MM. A line thickness over 3/4 inch. Brian, NOPE I ain't got a single Funny Car or Pro-Stock car! -Most my cars are "stock"..... These however going on a Dream Truck" build of mine..... -
I got a set of BnL resin Super Swamper TSL Boggers, as well as 2 packages of black plug wire.... Not to shabby, (Christmas gift card order) SO, NOW I have to figure out what rims will fit those HUGE tires!

Well guys, YEAH, not that kinda issue BUT close LOL I got these for Christmas: From BnL resins, they're these: http://www.b-n-lresins.com/shoppingopencart/Aftermarket-resin-cast-1-24-1-25-scale-hobby-model-tires-tracks/Aftermarket-resin-cast-1-24-1-25-scale-hobby-model-super-swamper-tsl-bogger-tires I'm NOT concerned on the tires being single-sided, I'm going to file off the names and the molded pour area. I plan to make the tread the correct way, BOTH sides. BUT the issue I have is the danged holes in them for rims. I "THOUGHT" I had rims that fit these, turns out they aren't even close. SO, thats the reason for this posting, what rims does fit these (if anyone knows) and what kits MAY have something? I'm trying to get rims to fit that are "Mopar" BUT if I can get/find a decent set of Aluminum/Chrome slot rims, OR Aluminum/chrome holes, I'd call it good, I'm NOT wanting ANY "Steelies" as I've seen. I'll get measurements on the hole size that the rim must be to fit if needed. BUT if anyone knows, PLEASE post here what they used, with pictures so I can see what they might look like for the build I plan to use these on! I'd LOVE to find a set of these that are kit parts in vinyl but I don't even know what kit they're from, SO if anyone knows that, PLEASE post that as well! Thanks for lookin' everyone, much appreciated!

I have TONS of extra front 2x4 suspension to make a 2 wheel drive truck if you need PM me on it..... I made 4x4 trucks from the frames and had the suspension left over from them! -
-Now for a post of my own..... I use Dark Aluminum from Alclad, AS WELL as Testors Model Masters Metalizers both buff and non-buff, as well as Matte Aluminum from Krylon and then you have the Dollar Store "Aluminum" I still have and even some of the off-brand Aluminum I've picked up over the years. some in spray cans others in small bottles. Depending on what I'm trying to do, I use which ever looks that way (I keep paint notes on what looks like what in real life to make the item look as its real. So, I have an array of "Aluminum" shade paints..... Just a not, DO NOT try to paint (spray) other colors over top of ANYTHING with the "Krylon" name on it, it will react to this paint, as its a tempermental paint to work with and does not get along well with others!
-
This would depend...... Testors Model Masters offers 2 DIFFERENT "Metalizer" Aluminum color paints. one is buff the other is NON-Buff, I have both! Now, a question, these still being made/offered still? As said some mentioned they'd have to go to something else, why? Not offered anymore, OR not happy with the metalizer?

Who wants to build this?

Your welcome! As for Al Bundy's car, YES it be a 225 Slant 6...... The best model of that one I have have seen is from the Lindberg '64 Dodge 330 OR Lindberg '64 Plymouth Belvedere. BOTH kits came with a Slant 6 option as well as a 383 and I believe a 426 Commando "Wedge" NOT the 426 Hemi!! Same engine block, different heads. -The '64 Dodge 330 came with the Slant 6 and the 383, The Plymouth came with a slant 6 also and a 426 Wedge. The "race cars" of either of these 2 cars from Lindberg I believe only came with a choice of one engine! The 426 Max-Wedge in the '64 Dodge 330, and the 426 Hemi in the '64 Plymouth Belvedere. I have the Dodge 330. I am on the look out for the Plymouth Belvedere tho...... I have resin copies of the slant 6 if anyone needs! Both from this kit, and the Deora truck! -The Deora kit, I'm not all that impressed with the engine in that kit.... Even tho, I did mold a copy of it, with various changes to make it more correct for a 226 Slant 6. -
NIICE Work Joe!!!!! I'm NOT a Ford guy to much....but this one turned out GREAT! NOW, if I could cough up a couple the exhaust manifolds you used here for a use I have for something very similar.... Different motor tho! GREAT to see a Ford 429 Boss "AKA Ford Hemi, used in the F-100! Fed by a high rise tunnel ram no less!!!! NICE job on the engine too man!

426-Hemi replied to Jordan White's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
To me, from my own Mopar experience the BEST model-made "LA" small block Mopar comes out of the AMT-Ertl '71 Duster 340...... NOT a good "273" BUT anything ABOVE that....318, 340 (respectively), and the 360, its a dang good model-made engine for a Mopar LA small block......BUT the Valve covers could use something...... They too, aren't "exact" models of the real thing, BUT the Monogram '70 Challenger TA 340 has NICELY done "LA" valve covers, ALTHO, they're 1/24th, not 1/25th..... Those supplied in the kit, look more like a Chevy small block to me..... As for the B/RB comment, the best I have yet to find comes out of the AMT-Ertl '70 Coronet. The heads and the valve covers in that kit are even more close to the real thing then what I have in the '71 Charger R/T I have also from AMT-Ertl They for what ever reason..... Don't seem to get the shape of a B/RB engine's valve covers right, and it sadly, bothers me, those found that are dead-on, actually were found in the AMT-Ertl 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee.... Those same valve covers were also found in the MPC '70 Dodge Coronet too! (Same kit really) BUT this has an A833 transmission, not the 727 Torqueflite the '71 Charger R/T has.....(I have ALL these kits BTW)
