Thanks guys! I got a tutorial posted in that section to see how I did the turbo set up!
-
I thought I'd go "hunting" for this as I posted this build a while ago so..... BUT my turbo tutorial is/was built for this car! I ought to post the entire build! (I have it all written out for everyone to see!
-
Brent, I'm glad you pointed that out..... I totally forgot ALL about the acid core stuff.......... probably being the stuff I use is so old, its not even funny! THANK YOU for that added bit to my tutorial! Everyone else, thanks for the compliments, I got a few others to add for other tutorials so. stay tuned! This tutorial you see the engine in the pictures? That motor, those turbo's, and all the piping is in my "Under Glass" '57 Chrysler 300C...... I did this tutorial at the same time I did that car! This is my second go around with twin turbos of my own making...... The other set is on my '65 Dodge A100 "Doomz Day" Monster truck! EDIT: I forgot to mention, guys, I'm so sorry, I totally spaced making this tutorial........... not realizing you all had replied! The "Father & Son" build has me all wound up in that build.......

Li'L Roll Back " C "
426-Hemi replied to Mopar - D's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Dan, Thats looking GOOD.. you'll be there in no time! -I'm back to what seems to be the saying "drawing-board" on the trucks LOL It seems as tho, I was just "building" a motor, and here I am doing it again, went from the 440 in my Power Wagon to my Dads as a 360...... -
Allison Charger - pics replaced - more work soon
426-Hemi replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is OFF THE WALL cool! (Normally I'm not a big fan of changing Mopar's but this one WOW!!!!!!!!!! I do however like the idea of the short scoop that ends forward of the hoods edge...... Kinda like the '67 Coronet one shown, just shorted and moved forward on the hoods "center"...... Be a "WTH" thats not right (You hit that one on the head Joe!) CRAZY work but cool at the same time...... NICE work! -
Ludwig, NICE wood simulation man! That sir looks AWESOME! The details on that dash is incredible! -NICE work!!!!!

Christine's Ugly Twin
426-Hemi replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to agree with who said Christine was a '58 and this one here is a '57..... BUT it is a bit difficult to tell for sure with the lighting on the car, for one so that adds to making it difficult to tell but it isn't a "Christine" '58 Plymouth Satellite!. -
Thanks Dan! The interesting part of boththese2 trucks is that they were in my family, one, and 2, slightly different from one to the other! -Which is what I'm finding that makes the models that much more fun to build! So, I'm enjoying it all! -Bit of an update..... Talked with the uncle on the phone, and come to find the truck my Dad had, was powered by the Mopar 360 V-8! And upon talking to him, and knowing my Dad, he LOVED "chrome" so..... I sort of thought he had changed the valve covers and maybe even the air cleaner (I sort of recall seeing a chrome air cleaner on the truck) so, he confirmed that, yes, my Dad, had changed the valve covers to chrome, (they were actually to a 318, BUT were "bolt-ons" anyway so. he added those and had a chrome air cleaner, which like I said, I sort of knew but wanted to make sure I was "right" due to the many vehicles my Dad owned over the years and wanted to make sure I wasn't just "assuming" he did this or that. SO with that, I'm off an running now..... I got the fuel line made with a fuel filter to go from the mechanical pump to the carburetor, and I'm working on the distributor as well..... Something else I found out with my Dad that I didn't know (I learned something by talking with my uncle for over an hour on the phone). My Dad could NOT stand oddly colored plug wires on his engines! (WEIRD I guess you could say) IF the engine was Blue, it got BLUE plug wires! IF it were red it get RED plug wires..... SO, with talkin' with my uncle, he told me the only other color my Dad could or would have put on the engine other then the engine color insulation was black! I learned something, I had not known, he was very persistent about it too... SO, with that I'll have to see what I have for plug wire color. I know I got blue wire, I would LOVE to add black if I have it but we'll see! My uncle said it had to do with the "looks".... Which knowing my Dad, that be the truth! Just how he was..... So with this truck, I'll be following along the lines of how my Dad had the real one from family sources to keep it as true to how he had it as very possible! -I can say, this one is gonna try my patients tho, certain things I do on models, won't be done the way I'd done it, or have done it otherwise..... I guess my Dad had also have the drive train, axles and suspension, coated with some sort of gloss black protective coating over time..... THAT bit of knowledge is gonna be a trial for me to do LOL (Guess I DO take after him a bit more then I ever thought I did!) Pictures to come when I'm at a good point of showing the details!

Fenderwell Headers in Resin?
426-Hemi replied to CHEVY2MUCH's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Dave, Good luck! I'm not sure any one makes fender-well headers, BUT they might be made with the use of solder and ran out from a header plate on the head and inserted into a drilled hole through it into the head and then shaped as you like it out through the fender well..... Solder or even aluminum wire would work well to make these from scratch! -
Thanks Joe! I got a ways to go on the second engine, for the second truck! I got the stock "as-built" mechanical fuel pump on it (the model didn't have one!) So, I made one and got it in place.... The fun part is doing the duel line from it, to the carburetor, and a filter in between, the Carburetor, and the mechanical fuel pump..... Nothing really, but I have to get to sit down and just "do it" you know? THEN I'll be able to move on to getting the Manifolds, oil filter, and some other small details..... I'm goingto getthe engine to the point that I can use it, to begin getting the frame ready. that ought to be a FUN one!

1959 Plymouth Fury, Update, 6/6, Finished!
426-Hemi replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
O-M-G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And here I thought I was THEE only "insame" modeler... that interior blows me away! I LOVE how ya sat and taped it all off Steve! -WOW...... BUT then to see the screen work done on decal paper is BRILLIANT!!!!! (I MAY have to attempt this in the future!) NICE job on the body too. that paint job looks GREAT! -
Thanks Dale! Was a bit of work to get that 440 to sit right but once I got that it all fell together really! The fun part is now "catching" my uncle and or cousin at home.... To get specifics on Dads engine that was in his old truck..... Which is what you see in my last posting..... Speaking of, that Mopar engine blue engine, a small block is one of my resin castings! I removed the standard transmission, and replaced it with one of my 727 Torqueflite automatics! Which is what Dads truck had, (That one, I do remember) He LOVED standard in cars, but hated in trucks..... (I myself LOVE standard in everything), BUT my wife wouldn't be able to drive (I have yet to teach her "stick") Lots of "scratchin fun as well as the attempt to "raise" the truck. thats a trial for me! Specially on a truck, any of them really..... (Yeah, I'ma redneck) LOL

OK I had a look around, and I'm missing something somewheres......LOL That danged left turn at Albuquerque LOL Anyway, I "THOUGHT" I knew what I was doing when you mentioned PE, and so I went looking, I mistook what ya said for Pro-Tech........... BUT you said "PE" Photo-Etch"????? I guess I'm trying to figure out what you were referring too with "PE".....? -

I appreciate it but no sadly McKean models is gone if its the same model company I'm familiar with..... -
NICE! I do not disagree that this model needs to be re-issued and possibly re-tooled...... I got one of the older AMT kits, but its a glue bomb and in need of TLC but they're difficult to come by these days I find!
-
LOVE it man! NICE job, the garage I used to work in growing up sort of looked the same! The only missing details I see, is the engine lift, and a engine "stand" and maybe a flat plate on the coal burner or wood burner for heating coffee! GREAT JOB! LOVE the 392 Hemi sittin on the floor with a cam ready to go in or was the one taken out.....being built to go in the Plymouth? Or? NICE job the pictures almost tell the story!

THEN for those people, who are learning......The air intake is in the middle! CENTER of BOTH turbo's! See: Now this center air intake? It can have a short pipe topped with a K&N air filter, OR can go to something that comes in from the hood, the grill, you name it, FRESH AIR IS BEST! NOT "heated" air from inside the engine compartment! These can be made ANYWAY you need them too, I just made them fit a car that was lowered, to the ground a bit, AND no holes in the hood! For yet another monthly contest! Hope you enjoy! Shopping List: > > 1/8th inch thick Solder. > > .062 inch "Thin" solder. > > 1/8th inch Brass OR Aluminum pipe "Tubing" -STRAIGHT (NOT curved stuff or bent). > > 5/32nd inch Aluminum Tubing (For turbo connection "Collars". > > Choice of favorite CA type glue.
-
So now off to the right-hand side of the turbo set up...... Notice, the WHOLE right-hand side set-up is LOOSE! You HAVE TO, get the distance just right on the outer most Exhaust Turbine.....Once that much is set and glued in place, you can go on to assemble it with super glue (CA).... NOW I'm sure all of you who don't know are wondering where does the exhaust go? (IT POWERS the turbine, which spins the turbine to blow clean air into the engine! BUT the exhaust is just that, it comes out the CENTER of the Exhaust Turbine: Yet again, more to follow!

Blue tarps can be made from blue shopping bags, OR the covering used on plexiglass to protect it...... (I'm finding the blue plastic shopping bags are difficult to find in my area!) The blue protective covering on plexiglass works might be difficult for some to find, BUT I used to work with it so..... Doing plexi work in stores I used to build, so...... I used to bring it home from work to use!
-
So, now to continue.....I got one side "started" BUT be careful, you must leave some on one end or the other specially when doing tins side-by-side... Notice where the Turbo "Flange" ring is in the picture, its labeled, but, it also hides where the solder exhaust turbine meets the turbo center.....These rings? need to have 2 PER turbine intake or power, so in the center, it will have 2 side-by-side. Seen here is the 2 rings BETWEEN or pinched in from the 2 turbine parts, this completes ONLY ONE SIDE! For posing sake, here is the left-hand side done, awaiting the right hand side.... Right-hand side to come! Stay tuned! Again, more to follow!
-
Turbos it is! Here for all to see! So, what do you all do if you need/want a Turbo thats not made, either in plastic, or resin? WELL heres what I do! Notice, the spool of solder? This is the Turbo Turbine, and Blower parts, there are 4 of them. 2 per turbo (remember this is a TWIN-Turbo set-up). The brass "Turbo center", VERY important for a set up like this keeps EVERYTHING on the same horizon to the engine as long as your exhaust headers are horizontally even. Side to side mounting is VERY important too, it must be long enough, cut it a bit "long" trim when all together..... Notice the solder is bent tightly around that brass pipe? This is how ALL of this will be made! The brass is left "long" and will be trimmed a bit and then trimmed again, later as you'll see! NOT glued at this point. A bit more has to be done first! Notice the '57 300's engine setting here, the brass has been trimmed BUT not "short" it will need trimmed to length one more time! ALWAYS allow for mistakes! You see 4 of the solder made parts, 2 Exhaust turbines, 2 turbo blowers.... Now for some details. Turbo "flange" ring material.....THIN solder! This shows HOW I made those really little Turbo "flange" rings to fill the void on the set-up. More to follow!
