  1. I'm taking interior and exterior color suggestions and any other tips for this build. It won't be stock... I think I want the top a white metallic Pearl. Thoughts? Tim
  2. I thought I picked up metallic gun metal gray, but it was just gun metal gray. I mixed some silver in it and it turned out to be a pretty color. Lots of dust and my airbrush puked the two red spots on the last spray. Hopefully the wet sand and buff will get it all out. Tim
  3. I finally got some decent pics... still learning the best way to take them. This was my first "candy" paint job as well as using BMF. On to the next one though and I appreciate everyone's constructive criticism, but go easy on me. lol Thanks! Tim
  4. Primed and ready for paint tomorrow. Tim
  5. Thanks fellas! If we have some snow days this year for us Federal Gov type, I should have a few good builds over the winter. The 67-69 Camaro was my favorite muscle car growing up, but I love them all. Tim
  6. I haven't lived there in almost 20 years since I joined the Air Force in 1995. I was there in July when my Dad passed away, but we try to get back at least once a year or so. That was the first time I had used Novus. I hadn't built a model in about 15 years and the #44 LaBonte build was the first one that I used base coat, clear coat on, but didn't use Novus to polish. I tried an aluminum polish and it worked out really good. Trial and error I suppose, but the more I test and learn, the better the product. Tim
  7. Sure thing! Tim
  8. Now that the 69 Chevelle is done, I can try to finish this one up soon. Paint color for the body will be gun metal metallic gray with white rally stripes. Tim
  9. Hi Joe! You are from my home town of Corpus Christi! As far as the gloss, I just put 3-4 really good coats of clear on it, wet sanded and polished it out. Hopefully the pics tomorrow in the sun will help some of that silver below the clear red come out. Silver-clear red-clear coat was all I did. I use a 4 inch buffing wheel on the spindle of a Dremmel. The buffing wheel only get so much pressure before it won't spin any more so it doesn't burn the clear. Prior to that, I just wet sanded flat, then polished with Novus #2. Thanks for the compliments! Tim
  10. Finally finished the Chevelle... Changed the wheels out, seemed to look better than the other ones. A few issues with the stance, but not too bad. This was my first attempt at BMF, so the next one will come out much better. Turned out to be a pretty good build. I'll take some more pics tomorrow with some natural sunlight. Thanks! Tim
  11. It's funny you say that because I have actually been looking at purchasing one in the near future. Building one won't help me fight the urge though! lol Tim
  12. Thanks guys! So far I am a big fan of BMF, I just need to buy some new blades. BMF makes a huge difference!!! Tim
  13. Making some progress. Wet sanded and polished and my first attempt at BMF. I'll post more pics tomorrow. Tim
  14. ... and I can't decide if I want black window trim, or chrome/silver. Tim
  15. Just about done with this one. I just have to let the paint cure for a few more days before I wet sand and polish. I might have to purchase some aftermarket wheels though. I was trying to get a certain look, but I think different wheels will help me do that. I'll have to wait and see what it looks like all together, first. Tim Note: Don't mind the toothpick between the exhaust... I was using it as a brace and forgot to take it out. lol
  16. Ron, I'd love to make it out, but we have a jam packed weekend and I won't have much time for anything. I'll have to free up some time and make it out there, eventually. Tim
  17. I am buying a few Sharpie's this weekend. Any particular ones better than others? I figured I'd grab a few black a few silver. Tim
  18. My first one since stepping away 20 years ago. I've got lots to learn... I'll get there. I had some yellowing of the decals and keeping the white bright. Windows kicked my butt, too. Tim
  19. Thanks guys! I took the pics with my iPhone, versus the DSLR, so they don't really show much. Like I said, it won't have all the bells and whistles that I have witnessed on this site, but the least I could do was make the paint look good. I was originally going to paint it silver, but I accidentally bought clear red and the lightbulb went off so I gave it a whirl. Jim - The only thing I noticed from my first base coat/clear coat paint job with Testors/Model Masters paint was that the clear HAD to be thinned to lay down right. I didn't think the base coat (silver), but I probably could have and it would have laid down a little better. I will see how this one does and if I have issues, I will give your denatured alchohol trick a try. Here is the primer I have been using and didn't have any issues with my first build, which was my 44 LaBonte build. I still need to post pics of that. As always, any tips that anyone has, or critiques, I'm all ears. Tim
  20. Thanks guys! I airbrushed everything and used Model Master (I assume Model Master and Testors are the same) acrylic all the way through, to include the clear coat. I lightly thinned it with Testors univeral acrylic thinner and put three pretty good coats of clear on it. Is there a difference between the Testors universal acrylic thinner and the Azter airbrush acrylic thinner? Are there any other acrylic thinners that work better with Testors or Model Master? Tim
  21. My first attempt at "candy", which turned out pretty good. I primed, then shot silver, followed by clear red (I didn't even know it existed) then clear. I still have to wet sand and buff, but wasn't sure how long I should wait for the clear to cure? It's not really a custom, but changing a few things here and there. I'm still learning the ropes after being away for almost 20 years. No where near some of the greats I've seen on this site! Tim
  22. I have oficially quit the model building hobby. I'm going to build a scaled house and have a garage fire with my small collection after looking at the level of detail and craftsmanship that Tim has put into this. Nothing that I've ever seen comares to it, which is absolutely AMAZING! Tim
  23. I think I will just clear coat and then apply the decals, but they are pretty old. Thanks for all of the tips. You guys are great! Tim
  24. Is anyone using any decal solution sets when applying decals? I know Model Masters makes one and I used to use it a long time ago, but I figured I'd ask. Can you clear coats over the decals? Tim
