  1. Had some time this afternoon, so I tried printing tires for the first time. I’m pretty happy with the results, although I think the Cooper Cobras might be a touch over exposed. Opinions? Anything you see that I could be doing better?
  2. Completed models are what exactly???
  3. I gotta say, I'm surprised by all the attention and positive feedback this build has gotten already. Really shows there's a lot of love and dedication for the old '40 Ford out there. I thank you all for your praise, tips, and advice for this project. Whether I follow your suggestions or not, I value each and every one of your comments. Thank you all and keep 'em coming!! At the end of the day, I have to follow my heart and vision for this old kit, and knowing my dad's taste for hot rods will help guide me there. So with that said, I think maybe the term "stock appearing" may be slightly off the mark. In this case, it should maybe be more like "stock resembling". I want there to be no question that this is a hot rod, but not over the top. When finished, hopefully it will be a very tastefully designed concept. Unless I totally blow it!? Now then, I've decided on the rims for this baby! I'll be 3D printing this design that I got from Z Force Model Works (his pictures below). No idea what they would have been on originally (if you know anything about them, please let me know). The rims will be painted black and the caps will be chrome. Not sure on what tires I'll use yet, but I'll size the rims to them once I decide. I will be going slightly larger in the rear.
  4. Out in the dog house is where Mike is headed.
  5. Nothing beats an ice cold beer on a hot summer night.
  6. That’s going to be really cool when you get it done. Nice work!
  7. Still up in the air for which engine is going into this. I still have a little time before I need to make a decision. Did quite a bit of clean up on the body and fenders today. There’s some flash and a couple of nasty mold lines, but nothing that can’t be dealt with. It should be expected from a mold of this age. I think I have the hood fitting pretty well. I expected more trouble from it. Seemed like it was really a matter of getting it to sit more towards the passenger side. The main parts I trimmed were the hood hinges. It’s not perfect, but much better and I can live with it now.
  8. Time has a way of taking time.
  9. Tallied up, I’d guess it would be mind blowing.?
  10. Was he really??
  11. Measures once, cuts twice.
  12. That is absolutely gorgeous. Such a clean build.?
  13. Today I’m sitting here at work wishing I was somewhere different.
  14. Ease on down the road.
  15. “Great Googly Moogly” was a line by Frank Zappa in the song “Don’t eat the yellow snow “.
  16. Thank for all your comments gentlemen! Greatly appreciated! @stavanzer- hmmm, 427 Ford you say? That sounds like an interesting idea. Pretty sure I have that kit too. I’ll have to think about that. I do like the idea of keeping it all Ford. Well, you guys seem to like the idea of blue, and I agree. So blue it shall be! In fact, I’m going with 1966/67 Ford midnight mist blue from MCW. What makes this an absolutely perfect choice is that dad has had three (!) old Mustangs in that exact color! This is the color I’m going with. This isn’t his, but at least one looked just like it.
  17. Next on the bench: the AMT ‘40 Ford Coupe. This model is being built as a Christmas present for my dad (don’t tell him! ?). I’ve never built a kit for anyone else, but this one is important. A couple of things to know: my lifelong love affair of cars is 100% because of him. He instilled that into me from birth, and he’s every bit as passionate (if not more so) than me. That’s the main reason for this build. It’s a “thank you” for giving me this obsession. The other less cheerful thing is, he’s 80 years old now. If I don’t show some appreciation while he’s still around, I’ll never get to. Enough of the mushy stuff. About the concept for this build. Dad’s favorite car is the ‘40 Ford coupe, so that part is a no brainer. But what really gets his juices flowing is a “stock” appearing hot rod. So with that said, this will probably get the Buick nailhead option, unless I find something I like better. For rolling stock, I just found a killer set of Ford dog dish style resto-mod wheels and tires that I’m going to download and print. Not sure on color yet. I’m leaning towards either black or a really dark blue (his favorite color). I’ve never built this kit before, so any tips, tricks, or other tidbits You can share will be greatly appreciated. Today was spent trimming and cleaning flash. Here’s where I’m at so far.
  18. It’s mainly parts. I just joined a few months ago, so I missed out on his early stuff. You can still purchase most of it though. Check out the website and you can see most of what it’s all about. Not sure where you’re at with printing, but there is a ton of helpful info to get you started (if you need it). As a beginner, I can say I wouldn’t be where I’m at without it. Also, if you’re on the fence, I think one of his packages offers a one month trial for $1. I contacted Chris directly prior to signing up because I had a few questions. He’s always very friendly and helpful.
  19. I’ve got a ssg subscription. Great files! Chris does an excellent job and is very helpful if you need it.
  20. Me and you are in the same boat.
  21. Odd jobs are plentiful around my house.
  22. Again, I will need a volunteer from the audience.
  23. It’s my turn now!!
