  1. I know the feeling. Never lost a part before and just last week I was cleaning an exhaust manifold at the kitchen sink when it slipped from my fingers and down the drain it went. Just seconds before that I was thinking "I should probably put the strainer in just in case I drop something".
  2. Beatiful job! That green vinyl roof is awesome!
  3. Wow, that's just rediculously cool... Excellent build.
  4. Nice! Love that car. I've got the Testors version of the same car on my bench right now. Just need to do the suspension and assemble the whole thing and it'll be under glass.
  5. Just wondered. I've seen some musical references in names, signatures, & avatars while looking around on here. I've played guitar for about 25 years. Not in any bands anymore & probably won't be again, but I'm still jammin' with friends from time to time. Anybody else play anything?
  6. Mike & Bill, those are some outstanding looking paint jobs.
  7. Thanks guys. Got a few factory stock projects with colors I'll probably have to step up to the plate and spend some money. Probably try out MCW. Also thinging about giving the nail polish a shot. Bet they have some killer colors for hot rods.
  8. I know this has probably been discussed before, but for those of you who are airbrushing those killer laquer finishes, where do you get the paint? I know MCW sells it, but that's more than I want to spend on 1oz of paint. Same with automotive laquer. All the local shops want to sell it by the quart. I keep hearing about Model Master laquer, but I'm not seeing much of a selection on line. Are those the only options? I'd really like to give laquer a shot sometime, so let me know what you're using and where you're getting it. Thanks!
  9. Really cool. That's one you don't see everyday.
  10. Everytime I see one of these I have to smile. What a crazy car. That's just plain cool.
  11. That looks great. Really nice detail! I'm thinking of getting the wife a 1:1 WRX for her next car (because I want to drive it!). Or maybe go a little cheaper and get the Impreza.
  12. Yup, it just gets old when you get crappy service everywhere you go. I'm a firm believer that if you get good service, you may tell a few people about it. But get bad service and you're gonna tell everyone you know. But these big companies today just don't seem to care. If they lose your business, there are ten people in line behind you that will make up the difference. Just really made my day to see that Testors (a company that I've been pretty loyal to since the mid 70's) is better than that.
  13. "Automatically drops leaflets in flight!! How cool is that! I love to see it in action. The last one I built I used plain old Elmers wood glue for assembly and Brodak dope for the tissue. You can get it here: http://brodak.com/brodak-paint-16-oz.html
  14. Man, that's beautiful...
  15. Thanks guys! I can get pretty critical of my own work, and normally when I'm done with a model, I don't feel very inspired by it. Sometimes, once completed, they just look a little fake or toy-like to me. But this one was different. I was pretty pleased with this build.
  16. Looks pretty cool to me. I LOVE those AMX's! Are those the wheels & tires that come with that kit?
  17. Monday I noticed my Aztek airbrush was leaking paint right through the body seam. Got a nice coating of Metallizer all over my hand! So I called the folks at Rustoleum (Testors Group) and they said it was covered under warranty. Sweet! So Monday afternoon I shipped my defective unit to them, thinking I'd be without an airbrush for a few weeks or maybe months. You never know. This would really not be cool, as I use it for just about everything, and I'm just now getting back into the hobby after a long time off. The last thing I want to do is stop and wait some more. But at least it was covered, right? Today, when I checked the mail, I got a surprise. There it was, a brand-spankin' new Aztek airbrush! Gotta say, I'm pretty impressed. I really wasn't expecting them to be nearly this fast. Thanks alot Testors! Nice work!
  18. Love that shade of blue! Great looking build.
  19. That Guillow's P40 is the kit that I tried first. I was making pretty good progress until my daughter got hold of it and poked a hole in the wing. I need to go back and repair and finish it sometime. My doesn't look nearly that nice though. It was really just an experiment to see if I could pull it off or not. I don't plan to paint it all all. I actually intend to try and make the thing fly if possible, but I hear the WWII warbirds are some of the hardest to get to stay in the air. I still have a British S.E. 5A hanging in my basement that my dad built before I was born. Beautiful old plane. Wingspan is around 3 foot. But the paper is splitting pretty bad in a couple of spots. I don't plan to restore it though since he built it. I like it just the way it is.
  20. Built this one about 12 years ago or so. This was the last one I finished before I took an extended break. The pics look a little fuzzy to me. Sorry, my hands shake a little more than they used to when taking pictures. But hey, the vision is going too, so maybe they aren't as blurry as I think! haha! I know now that some of the colors aren't correct, but when I built this I didn't have internet to look up reference photos. Not making excuses though. Body color was a custom mix of Testors enamels airbrushed on and then clear coated. Chassis was some kind of cheap rattle can stuff I got at wal-mart. Won't be using that stuff again. It went on really thick. Anyway, it's good to be back into this stuff again after so long.
  21. Just curious, anybody here into the old school stick & tissue planes? My dad used to build and fly them all the time when he was younger. I got interested in it about a year ago. Started two projects and still haven't finished either one yet! But they're a fun diversion from time to time when I need something different.
  22. One of my favorite cars. And that's the color I'd want too. Nice job!
  23. Thanks for the response Erik. That's pretty much what I thought, but I wanted confirmation before I tried it and risked messing up hours of work. By the way, that chassis looks awesome. What kind of car is that? Riviera? Nice work.
  24. I've done some research on here and around the web regarding washes and I'm gonna give it a shot. I'm mainly interested in bringing more depth to my chassis, engine, and interior assemblies. Just basically adding more definition to everything. I'm using a mix of Tamiya acrylics and water for the wash, and I would like to apply them over Testors enamel and acrylics, and Tamiya acryilic. Got a few questions though: Is it recommended to apply wash over gloss finish or can I get away with putting it on top of a flat? My concern is that the flat will absorb to much of the wash and make it difficult to remove the excess. Should I apply the wash over the entire surface or try to keep it mainly in the creases? This may vary depending on the desired effect, but what's your preferred method for adding depth & realism. Should the wash dry completely (or at all) before cleaning off the high spots? Thanks for your input gentlemen!
