  1. I came across a few chunks of Corian years ago, and have used them for sanding blocks for dust nibs and runs (gasp!) ever since, in 1:1 projects. Never thought about using them in scale... Thanks!
  2. 103 years... A good, long life for The Rag Man's son.
  3. Very nice!!!! Big fan of the DS here.
  4. Molotow works very well through an airbrush. Over bare plastic, primed or painted parts. Over bare resin, I've never tried it - the few resin pieces I've done were primed. It is thin, and will run if you're not careful, but it can look every bit as good as the best Alclad, and in my opinion, approaches decent kit chrome. Not perfect, but close. How well it holds up over time is anyone's guess, but so far so good. But... it doesn't like to be handled, so care is needed. These bumpers were airbrushed with Molotow...
  5. I have a Molotow pen and a refill that I like for airbrushing. In fact, the bumpers, headlight bezels and taillight bezels on this build are Molotow chrome. But, I've found Molotow does not like any handling after it has been applied, and with all the handling this body receives as it goes together, I'm afraid the trim would look like silver paint. As it is, those pieces will be the very-last pieces to be installed, except for the taillights, which are protected enough by their location. I'm not wild about BMF - in fact it's my least favourite part of building - but it does look great and it holds up well to fingers. Thanks for the comment! Nice to know that someone is looking!
  6. Windows are going in!!! The rear and quarter glass is plain old cellophane, the front is a custom job made from a pop bottle, a buck and a heat gun. Getting the front to fit flush is taking some time, but it fits far better than the various kit pieces I've tried. I'll be sooooo happy when this car is sitting on all fours in its display box! 3 years and counting... Comments always welcome.
  7. This poor old girl has been in pieces for several years. Figured it was due a little love... As box-stock as they come, I think I built it around '98 or '99. British Racing Green and GM 8555 Black, both in single stage automotive urethane. Comments always welcome.
  8. Looking pretty cool!
  9. It's time for a nice, simple almost-box-stock build, and the shoe box Fords always deliver. Painted this last summer, in Testors Pure Gold and automotive clear. The Carson top was made from the abbreviated custom top in the kit, and the soft top. I think it turned out the way it should have... Comments always welcome.
  10. Scale Finishes. BC 4 Jadestone
  11. Very very nice!!!
  12. I'm having a tough time staying motivated on this build... but it IS getting there. Two wheel openings yet to see BMF, then it can begin going together. Foiling those thin wheel opening trim pieces is NOT a fun way to spend an afternoon Comments always welcome.
  13. Picked this up a few years ago. Think I paid a buck or two for it. Nothing special, by any means, but... I couldn't save the windshield, but the frame has only single crack along the bottom edge. I think the original builder used up an entire tube of cement on this kit alone... both rockers and the trunk lid had big distortion from copious amounts of glue. Refinished in Jade stone and clear, it's on my bench now.
  14. Brother-in-law lives south of you, in Airdrie. He says the propane furnace in his old farm house can barely keep up. He's kept the wood burner in his living room going for a few days, and he's still worried about frozen pipes. Far too cold for me, dry air or not.
  15. Yup. I tried to cast some Dodge letters off an old grill I had, but I couldn't get them to work the way I wanted. I was hoping no one noticed...
  16. Thanks! Yeah, the engine is kind of ... vague? Not much detail there. I used the kit transmission to match the pedals and floor shifter.
  17. That is going to be sharp! i don't envy you doing all that foiling...
  18. Finished off a problematic Dodge short box model! One of those kits where nothing seems to fit after it's painted... or glue is applied. Knocked together a work bench for a future diorama, along with a bench vise and some axle stands. They can be seen next to the Dodge in Under Glass. And then, got motivated enough to get back on the resin '79 300 that I've been avoiding for some time.
  19. This started as a Little Red Express truck. I picked up a resin short box, tailgate and grill on Ebay last year. The box needed a LOT of work to render it workable, but it was all the I could find at the time, so... The mirrors are leftovers from the Fuzz Buster Volare, pinned in place. The air breather is a resin copy I made, with some BMF on the lid. Rims are Nascar units and the tires are those awful chunky things that I seem to have to many of. Found a use for 4 of them... I hogged out the molded-in headlights and used some clear Bondic lenses. The center of the grill was opened up. The grill itself was air brushed with Molotow, then cleared with Future for an anodized aluminum look. Detailing the black on the grill was an exercise in frustration: the Tamiya tape kept pulling the Future away from the Molotow. Lots and lots of touch-ups were needed. The antenna slid down into the fender, and wasn't noticed till after the pics were taken. Sprayed in Testors root beer and a shot of over-thinned automotive clear. Putting it all together was fun... it's one of those kits that just never seemed to fit properly, no matter what. The chassis plate had a definite curve to it. I thought I had cured it, but it's slowly arching down again. But, it's done and in its' display cabinet, and overall, I'm happy with it. Comments always welcome.
  20. Finished and appearing nightly in Under Glass...
  21. I've been fighting off a cold for the past two weeks. Headache, low grade fever, the associated aches and pains... My wife is an RN in a nursing home. She brings home all kinds of bugs and viruses. Yay me! Been years since I've had a flu shot, though I'm certainly in a compromised health condition. Guess all those year of playing in dirt and the great outdoors is paying off!
  22. Today was the first day in months that I was able to spend more than an hour at the bench. Logged in a whole 3 hours! I managed to get the taillights, rear bumper and tailgate on my '72 short box Dodge, added some black detail to the Molotow'd grill, finished up the clear headlights and buckets for the grill. Tomorrow, with some luck, i might just finish this one off! Also knocked together a wooden work bench for a future diorama and cast up a bunch of assorted hand tools for the bench. Managed to get those painted up, along with an open toolbox to hold them. And, before time ran out, I fiddled with the roof and upper tailgate on my '65 Lincoln surf wagon.
  23. I owned the rusty version of that car back in '85. It was a nice, smooth driving car.
