Love it! Everything about this just looks right. Very well done!

Very nice! Now we HAVE to see your other finished builds!

I found the nice thing about the water bottles is that they are light and small enough to easily hold onto, and because they're round, rolling them in one hand for paint coverage is easy. I do have a coat hanger stand that gets some good use, too. ... And, I'm cheap.

I like to use a couple of single-use water bottles. I put some water in them for stability and the really nice thing about them is I can squeeze them a bit and put the lid on so that they fit inside narrow bodies. I'm very cheap...

That is some pretty nice work, right there...

Watched it last night. Very good. Loads of great acting and great cars. The green '72 Coronet and the brown '72-ish Valiant made it into a lot of scenes!

'72 Dodge shortbox
restoman replied to restoman's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
E-Bay. It needed a fair bit of work: warped, poor contours above the wheel openings, the front panel had to be cut off and re-positioned... but it was the only way to go if one wanted a short box at the time. -
I put the Lincoln wagon aside for a bit and dug this off of the shelf. Been picking at it for a few months... Picked up a resin shortbox and tailgate (needed a not-insignificant amount of work!), as well as the oh-so cool '72 style grill a year or two ago and it's all going on a LRE kit. Done in Testors Root Beer and 2k clear. I finally found a use for the awful, chunky tires that I seem to have too many of, and matched them with a set of Nascar rims for a bit of a street brawler look. Lowered the front end a good 3 or 4 scale inches and dropped the rear as well. This is the first time I've mocked it up since the wheels were mounted. Comments always welcome!
-
Spent some time re-doing the rear pillars for a more-'60s look. In order to keep the rear glass moonroof, I'm kinda stuck on a Mopar-ish looking rear pillar, but it works for me. Lots of filling and filing yet to come. ...But... the interior tub fits. Those panel lines are going to need some serious scribing! Comments always welcome!

Excellent tip! I never would have thought of acrylic paint...

Very nicely done! It's got that eye-grabbing appeal all over! -
'68 Olds Chassis Finish?
restoman replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Buz may be correct. ... But every picture I can find online shows pretty much the same as the photos I posted. Quite a few of those pics are concours cars and projects destined for concours quality. Ron - who owns the silver '68 H/O clone - is a diehard Olds guy, and his '69 H/O is a consistent show winner. He's my go-to guy for Olds related questions. He tells me he tried the black floors & overspray method when he did his '69, and he hated it, so he went with straight chassis black. I'm a Mopar fella, so I'm just relaying what I've found and seen. I'm sure whatever direction you take, Steven, it'll be killer. -
Me too. I'm looking at fixing the rear pillars and widening the rear liftgate to better match the picture... and losing the curved side glass that would look good on a 50s car, but not on a square 60s Lincoln.

'68 Olds Chassis Finish?
restoman replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My buddy Ron's '68 H/O clone... When he took this car apart, there was very little original paint left on the frame or floor underside. He says the frame should have been a little glossier than this. -
Replicas and Miniatures

These pictures don't do justice to the parts... When I was talking to Norm and asked him about the surfboards and the Lambretta scooters, he said they were out of production but if the molds were still good, he'd give them a go. Well, the molds were good enough because the parts are lovely. The Triumph Bonneville is uber cool! I've done a little casting myself, just enough to know that he takes a LOT of care in what he does, and he must have his process perfected. Like I said, pics don't do justice to the parts! He apologized several times because it took slightly longer than he said. That was not an issue with me. These pieces are worth the wait time! -
Slightly warped resin hood
restoman replied to cobraman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have had some luck with warped hoods by over-bending the parts and binding them in that shape for several days. Very much like over-pulling collision damage, and hoping that when it all settles out that the shape or position is ok. It's pretty hit-and-miss, though, and I've had to do it more than once to stubborn parts... I have found that resin is easier to re-shape than styrene. -

Got my order from Norm today, and all I can say is: WOW! It took slightly longer than he said it would - and he apologized for that repeatedly, but it wasn't a big deal by any means - but it was well worth any wait time. Those Halibrands... oh my! I have a feeling my credit card is gonna be smoking from overuse! -
'68 Olds Chassis Finish?
restoman replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
According to my Olds fanatic friend, the floor pan underside and firewall should be what they call 60% black, or slightly glossier than eggshell. The frame rails are gloss black, but not a high gloss. And the paint jobs were often messy and thin from the factory. -

Very, very nice! Love the colour.

A little bit of down time between painted projects has me tinkering with this... I'm picturing a surfboard-carrying wagon, maybe owned by a rich kid's Dad, who spent big bucks having a one-of-a-kind wagon built for himself. I didn't care for the kit's wagon roof, so am trying to make it look like something a high-end custom shop would have built in the mid-sixties, or perhaps even Lincoln itself. Lots of work still to go, but I like the overall look so far. I'm thinking of either a dark emerald green or a charcoal silver, with factory-style woodgrain, lowered, with the kits' custom wheels, yellow double-line tires and a roof rack with a couple surfboards on top. Comments always welcome!

Excellent! Thanks for posting that!

I had no idea... that's awesome!

From the re-issue of the Double Dragster kit. A fun build, a few fit issues, but still fun. Box stock. I kinda wish now that I had wired the plugs... maybe next time. Comments always welcome!
