  1. Nice kit, Wayne. The Dragon smart kits are great, too bad the instructions are so lousy, at least on all the smart kits that I have.
  2. I entertained fantasies about becoming a big time rock 'n roll drummer when I was much younger, but those days are very far behind me now. Good luck with your hunt.
  3. Obviously the auction has ended by now, but I'd echo the thoughts of the others; stay within your comfort range. I'm looking at a couple of the large scale front engine dragsters right now (my favorites), and I will not pay beyond a certain fixed amount, regardless.
  4. I think it's gorgeous. I also think the odds of my ever owning one, are about the same as getting hit by a comet.
  5. Again (especially when I was just a tyke), the box art could make the kit overwhelmingly appealing to me.
  6. Like many others here, mine get dumped, unless the artwork is pretty cool, in which case I cut it out to hang,... someday.
  7. I wasn't before, but I am now. That's pathetic, and probably on par with my own finishing averages.
  8. I just bought something similar (Amazon), and in natural sunlight, it works great. The small lights might come in handy, but floods are still required indoors, or at least this has been my experience.
  9. Yep, wax based metalizer, very similar (so I've read) to Rub 'n Buff.
  10. I'm dealing with the same problem right now, trying to remove the molded on Revell trademark nonsense on the bottom of a chassis. It's molded right between the gas tank and frame, so I'm getting at it with my Excel belt sanding stick, and a very small hobby chisel I picked up somewhere.
  11. Just added my vote. I seriously doubt that anything I'll ever try is original, and I don't concern myself too much over that fact. I'll probably only do a dozen or less more cars in my lifetime, and most, if not all, will be fairly straightforward.
  12. Quite a long time, but of course that depends on frequency and duration of use. I tend to spray a lot (one of my favorite hobby chores), and my refills generally last a year to a year and a half. I've read that 800 psi is about maxed out, but I don't recall ever seeing mine that high.
  13. Here's another of my efforts, the 1:72 Roden example of the iconic Fokker D.VII
  14. I'll try to upload some photos for you. I've crawled all over 4006. I'll undoubtedly be grabbing more photos in the spring, so I can finally finish my own. Here's a shot of my base, sort of a marshalling yard.
  15. I'd love to build a big Funny one of these days, but there's no way I'll go all nuts the way you are. You must have the patience of an Oyster.
  16. Yes, by all means keep most of the salient details to yourself, lest someone "borrow" them. I've already had one modeling product lifted from me by asking for input on forums, so I discuss these ideas no more in public. The advice from the others seems sound. If there's a point when people with good ideas falter, it's when it comes time to get out the wallet.
  17. Me too. I bond my fingers together every once in a while.
  18. Wonderful stuff. I still have a favorite old paperback of short stories; Joyce, Thoreau, Poe, Burrows, London etc., and it's some great writing.
  19. I never took them out of the house. I'm a "play for me" kind of guy. I had more than a few offers to jam with some other guys, but never bothered.
  20. Referring to automotive modeling specifically, for me it's a couple of reasons; nostalgia being one, creating a nice looking kit of a vehicle I'll never be able to afford is another.
  21. With me it's a mixed bag. While box art (renderings), can be very attractive, I'd also like to see the contents in the form of a build up of the kit in question.
  22. I will, but it may be quite a while before I get to it.
  23. About 500-600 psi is standard I believe. Normally when I trade my old tank for a refill, 600 psi is about the max I've seen.
  24. Indeed it was. I'd really like to find another El Camino with the camper shell. I have a local car model contest/swap meet coming up in May, perhaps I'll get lucky. Agreed. I had forgotten all about it until looking through all the instruction sheets this morning. The box is jammed full of all sort of sheets, cars, armor, ships, aircraft and monsters (Aurora); fun stuff indeed.
