Interesting. I'll probably go with white primer or base coat first then. I really like the color of the hood behind the interior. Are you saying that metallics aren't opaque? I was under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that only candies were translucent.

Digging through Google right now looking for cab interior photos. Also browsing through this web site for projects using th same kit, so that I can get some ideas. .

Thanks, guys. I think I'll probably try some of the things I've learned over the last few years, to make it a presentable model, one that hopefully I'll be happy with.

I once fell prey to being sucked in by box art (and I wasn't a kid at the time) re: a 1:700 USS Missouri. Cheap enough price, and the box art captured the splendor that is one of these ships. Once home, I opened up the kit to behold a 45,000 ton battleship, reduced to about a tiny 15" long. I was flabbergasted, and realized that I'd let the imagery draw me into a dumb decision. I mean the main batteries (which are gigantic on the real deal), were about 1" long! More like a bathtub toy than a decent representation.

I'd have to say that from my view, box top imagery can be a determining factor. At the LHS a few days ago, I passed on a few kits because the box illustrations (kit built up), looked cheesy. The real 1:1 car might look great, but the models depicted on the boxes just looked like cheap imitations. If what's in the box can't be made into a better interpretation of the real thing, I'll save my cash (what little I have of it).

The decals look awesome, and I had no clue that the Italeri kit of parts was ever produced; I may try to track down a kit.

I haven't built a big rig kit since I was a little kid, so today I ordered this from HL. I'm really looking forward to tearing into this one, as I really like the overall design of the vehicle, especially (oddly enough) the sleeper section.

OK, I still can't access my storage spaces yet, so I went ahead and ordered another Monogram Challenger. Today I picked up some Testors Icy Blue Lacquer for it, so do I need to spray this over white primer, or will regular light gray sandable primer be OK? It seems that since this is (hopefully) an opaque paint, the substrate color will be irrelevant?

It seems that a lot of fellas that are really wild about creating their own decals, use CorelDRAW; expensive, but worth it if you really want to go nuts. If and when I need to resize imagery, I just use Photoshop.

I certainly have, and I saw my friend do the same one night as well. Tore his hand open pretty bad when the bottle snapped.

I saw one at the IPMS nationals several years back, and it was very impressively done. I have a photo of it around here,... somewhere.

In my own experience, it works like this; as a person ages, the relationship to the physical world also evolves, and the interface with the time/space continuum actually accelerates, leaving the same amount of time, but it just goes by at an accelerated pace, leaving one with what only seems like less time available.

I've read various comments re: the Boyd automotive paints produced by Testors. Are these generally considered desirable? The reason I ask is that I just ran across about a dozen cans for sale from someone I know, and they're all brand new.

Spare (or dedicated) Channel locks are indeed very handy, so is turning the bottle upside down and squirting a little lacquer thinner into the thread area. After just a few seconds, the lids screw right off.

I'd have a heart attack. There has to be an easier way.
