  1. That works for me. I like them all (Mopars that is, especially late 60's, early 70's), but must admit that the sales catalogs, are frequently not an answer to all of my questions.
  2. OK, fellas, I snatched this image somewhere (perhaps here, I don't really recall), and have no idea what the car may be. I'm guessing 60's something, but that's about as far as I get. Any ideas?
  3. OK, thanks a bunch.
  4. Thanks a bunch for that, Steve. I just picked up a Monogram '29 Ford pick-up, but the chrome, particularly on the wheels, is just horrible, so I'm considering having them redone.
  5. Very interesting observations, Dann. Since I've yet to actually enter the curbside category, and considering there's only about 6" of ground clearance on the real car (strictly an arbitrary number on my part), which is only 1/4" in 1:24 scale, would anything really be able to be seen, anyway? I'm going to go "engine-less", and see what happens. I had asked the question of velocity stacks exiting the hood on a curbside, but never received an answer from the MMVA folks.
  6. It's an interesting point. Since part of the engine is showing, that would seem to nullify the hood closed requirement, as the implication is that no engine is allowed, but I don't really know that, for certain. The MMVA (local club), does allow for blacked out windows, though it's not a requirement, as such.
  7. Well, at least as far as IPMS USA is concerned, no engine is the specific rule. If it has an engine, it is not eligible for curbside. Other contests though, affiliated or not, may not have the same requirement. By the by, where do you have you parts chromed, Steve? I've seen that you do that from time to time, and I am considering having some done for myself.
  8. Thanks for the input(s), fellas. I'm just going to go with the assumption that It needs no engine, which is great for me, as I see no need to waste an engine that will never, ever be seen by anyone.
  9. For both? I thought the grille was darker than the shaker.
  10. Just wanted to say hello, Terry, since we never seem to get to speak any other way.
  11. I have no earthly idea what Revell was thinking when they did the suspension here, as some of the connecting items, connect to nothing at all, at least as far as I can tell. Also, what would be the recommended paints to use for the two Argent silvers, the one for the shaker and the one for the grille? I'm guessing that two different shades of metalizer will do the trick, but any advice would be welcomed.
  12. Perhaps a dumb question, but curbside contest rules usually call for hood to be closed. I've always assumed (for whatever reason), that there is then no need for an engine at all; is that true? IPMS USA rules specifically state no engine for curbside, but is this necessarily applicable to all shows that have a curbside category?
  13. OK, so Sunday I inventoried the kit for completeness (it is), but the chrome on the wheels is just horrible. While I can probably use other wheels, scavenged elsewhere, I'm thinking of having these re-chromed. Any suggestions as to a reputable source for this sort of work?
  14. Our annual swap meet/contest was today, so I was able to snatch one of my grail kits that I can now check off the list. Not at all a really unusual kit, just one that I'd been wanting for some time now. Built one (horror story), loved it, but all I have now are photos of it, so I'll do 'er up again.
  15. Excellent information to know, so thanks a heap, Bill. I had intended to go silver with the grill, so it seems that was a good choice.
  16. Interesting info about the AAR 'Cuda. Does anyone make a decent kit of the AAR? I don't recall having seen one before.
  17. Sorry to hear. Do whatever you need to do; I'll be pulling for you to get though it OK.
  18. I'm sort of leaning toward the same thing myself now, Blue hood, silver shaker, or perhaps black shaker, have yet to figure that out. Thanks for the inputs and support, fellas, it helps a lot.
  19. Right; since the rules explicitly state that hood must be closed, they will obviously not judge engine or engine compartment, so why waste an engine on it.
  20. Perhaps a dumb question, but curbside calls for hood to be closed. I've always assumed (for whatever reason), that there is then no need for an engine at all; is that true?
  21. Me too, the first I've been able to attend in the last three years, ridiculous but true.
  22. And another on cars from DK publishing, and another that's in excess of 300 pages. I have to tell you fellas, for the really decent prices these books can be had for, they are truly excellent.
  23. I'm certainly glad I checked this area first, as I was getting ready to post this same news, but in the off-topic section, where I had assumed it belonged.
  24. Entire hood, or at least that's my tentative thinking. Shaker scoop will be silver, so I'm not 100% sure about the black hood, but am definitely considering it.
  25. And the wet sanding/polishing has commenced. I've already sanded through in a couple of places (I always do), but they should be fairly easy touch-ups, I hope. I'll probably end up going with a satin black hood, and I think that'll look OK.
