Good to see the young and future of the hobby building stuff. Good work on the jeep!!! Now get that thing to a car wash!

Hello all, I usually submit to the truck side of the site, but since I also build cars I decided to show some of my oldest cars in my collection. The first will be this Camaro that was built in about 1985, it was painted white but in the last 30 years or so the clear-coat has yellowed as you can see. The Monogram 1982 Camaro Z-28 kit was built as an '83 model to replicate a real car owned by my father at the time. It has survived, along with its brother, an '85 Camaro IROC- Z in the top of my closet since about 1997 because they take up too much space in my display cabinet. I plan on featuring the IROC- Z in the future if any fellow modelers would like to see it. This Camaro was built pretty much box stock with the exception of the engine detailing. I didn't plan on the engine work, but with models this size its hard not to do something, and once you add one thing you add another...and then another. All hoses and wires, wire looms and electrical components, were either scavenged, or scratch built as needed. Sorry about any dust you may see also. The 1/8th scale models were big, especially when compared to the 1/25th scale model shown in the last picture. I'm sure these giant scale models will never return, so if you own one or more, hold on to 'em. This model has only ever been seen by family members, so let me know your comments please. Thanks again!

Original Oldschool 352
OlSchoolRedo replied to OlSchoolRedo's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks a lot guys on the kind words. As I've said before, this site helps inspire me to build a little more, and luckily I have quite of few left to show while I work on a few projects that have been growing dusty on my work bench. This site has also been a great place to look at what others are working on, and give me idea's on future projects. Again, thanks everyone. -

Thanks for your interest and kind words. This is the original issue AMT T-502 kit. -
Hello again fellow modelers, this truck is one of the oldest in my collection. It was originally purchased in 1979,and of course being a young and budding model builder at the time I built the kit straight out of the box. Well most of the pieces wound up on the truck, and a few didn't make the cut. I used very little paint on the build, mostly on the original engine and a little on the interior parts. It turned out ruff, but it wasn't a complete glue bomb. As I got better building models this truck was slowly turning into somewhat of an eye sore, so I eventually relegated it to a box in the top of my closet and it was forgotten. Fast forward to about 1990 I was going through my old room and happened upon that box. I took the box home which still contained the old truck along with other built models and pieces. I decided to try and salvage it, I disassembled the truck and this time having better skill, painted a few more parts. The old kit turned better and I displayed it proudly. But once again as my skills grew, well you know the story. So once again around 2005 I decided to restore it again. I tore the truck back apart, stripped the paint off, sent the original chrome parts out to be re-plated, removed the original Detroit 8V-71 and replaced it with a Cummins. I wanted to keep some of the trucks personality so I kept the old original "too skinny" tires. I raided my parts box for some of the other missing pieces. The trailer was added a few years ago. Anyway, I hope you like it.

1967 white freightliner
OlSchoolRedo replied to gino's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Great looking build. I too have not seen a Freightliner set up this way, like some early day cab 352's, but your theory makes sense to me. Again great job! -

Thanks everyone for your comments. This website gives me the inspiration to build more models, and to appreciate what others are doing out there. In a world full of electronic gadgets and other distractions, it good to know people still enjoy this hobby. Now if we could only get these companies to produce more of the kind of trucks we like to build...old and new trucks. -
Hello again gang, its been a while since my last post, but you know how family, work, and generally life take priority. Anyway, for my 3rd entry I wish to...yes once again... show another one of my "bowtie" cabovers. The truck and converter dolly were finished in 2010,the trailers were finally finished over this summer. The daycab Titan 90 was a ball to build, and was inspired by an old abandoned freight truck that was rotting away in shoulder high weeds here in town for many years until it was finally hauled away for scrap some time ago. The trailers were slightly updated from the 60's to say mid to late 70's by adding additional structures around the roll-up doors, and more period correct d.o.t. bumpers. Also updating air line hook-up locations on the front of the trailers, along with scratch built "James King" model 300 trailer document boxes, which of course were used to store trailer registration papers. Omitting the use of d.o.t reflector tape on trailers is also correct, as the use of the tape was not mandated back then. As I am a road driver for a major "wiggle wagon" freight company, I knew I had to add this type of truck combination to my collection. Anyone who has missed my previous entries please search them out on this site and give me your thoughts. Thanks again.

Hello Monty, Thanks for the kind words and interest in this build.I too built this kit before as i got one of these for Christmas back in '79 at 13.By then i had built a couple truck kits, but this truck was so fiddly and fussy that i never completed it,and what i had finished was a complete hot mess!! Anyway,I used a combination of hobby and automotive paints topped with a enamel clear coat.Colors are Testors Jade Green Metalflake, and Duplicolor Hampsted Green Mt. over gray primer.Cab masking was a combination of chart graphing tape and a good quality masking tape.
