  1. Oh yeah! I recently picked up some Wizards "mystic cut" Its a no grit rubbing compund/hand glaze in one shot... Wet sand with 2500, and 2-3 applications by hand and it looks great! Bad news is its almost 50.00 for a big bottle, but Ill use it on my 1:1 stuff.
  2. Thank you! I actually didn't use any filler, just Gap Filling CA and kicker... Kept filling and sanding.. The flares from that aoshima kit fit pretty well all-in-all, just had to blend them in.
  3. Nice job!! Im too big of a chicken to try a rotary tool to polish.. kudos to you for making it work and work well!
  4. Wow! That is a really cool way to do that bracket! Amazing and inspiring work, the cleanliness of your fabrication is something to strive for.
  5. Thank you all for the compliments and encouragement I'm trying my darnedest over here... its gonna be close. Got the body buffed out last night and the AAR style matte two tone paint done... Tonight is the semi-gloss black window trims. Not the best pics... but you get the idea.
  6. Just like i thought... notice where the highlights appear when creating a rotational array. The distributor cap is fine... Pitch forks away please...
  7. I agree...The spacing on what everyone is perceiving as the top 3 nubs does not match the bottom 4 nubs... ..Therefore I assume the spacing is all even and our eyes/this photo is lying to us. Its very possible that is a inny-outie shadow optical illusion.
  8. Sweet! It will be good to see you.. I thought about the Saturday night thing, but honestly I will probably still be working on this cuda for the show. haha... Its a good show, we attended last year and enjoyed it.
  9. Very nice work on a fun subject! What a great haul from hobbytown.. I am envious of all that styrene.
  10. Very nice... very clean... Very cool
  11. Love it!!! Cant wait to see it in person.
  12. Thanks guys! Yeah.. I had to share that find... for the price you cant beat them. Literally thousands of uses. Engine done, and installed into the frame: I "dropped" the interior over it to check fitment, and see how it looks. This thing is going to be a pain to get together, im already a little scared.
  13. Very clean build! Love it!
  14. Coming up this weekend... Ill be there.. anyone else?
  15. amazing work as always JC! outstanding build!
  16. And then finally the chassis assembly.. which was quite easy to this point... its mostly covered with the belly pan: One little fun detail i did because I could... Swaybar links! I picked up a set of micro O-Rings and the smallest size slips perfectly over a straight pin.. so i stacked them up and made links.. I will add a Photo-Etched boltheads to the pinheads later as a final detail. Link to O-Ring set... they really are tiny-tiny.. and come in quite handy. http://www.banggood.com/Mini-Small-Rubber-Washer-O-Ring-Watch-Crown-Waterproof-Watches-Seals-p-72731.html Assembled chassis:
  17. Quick weekend update here... Interior and Chassis are pretty much done, plan on dropping the engine in tonight. First up was the dash, needed to drill 3 holes for the remote brake & clutch reservoirs: Then make the resivoirs.. 1/8" acrylic rod on the lathe: Then some caps: Next up was the DigiDash and Center console, started off in illustrator, drawing all the pieces and parts: Sent to the cutter with .010 loaded up: Painted, Decal-ed and Future-ed Same with the Center Console... Scale Production shift gate, Straight pin shift knob, S&S hex nuts with wire for toggles, and a random P/E piece as the start button: Seat belts with the crazy modeler FXX P/E hardware.. belts are .005 styrene scuffed in one direction with coarse sandpaper: Finally all together and assembled! I filled the reservoirs with future tinted with some yellow and purple acrylic paint...They turned out a little to big in hindsight (both tall and diameter) but i still like the little added detail:
  18. Thanks guys! I am quite happy with how it is progressing! Thank you Steve, they are from a long discontinued Model Car Garage Bolt/Nut and Screw Head set, it was the connection-less one on the rubber backer. I ordered up some of these last night, I think they should be similar.. however I will know once they arrive. http://www.am-works.com/lw35026-screw-heads-round-various-sizes-phillips-and-flathead/
  19. Thanks guys!! Honestly, I haven't dove very far into the settings... But first thing I did was pull the blade out and turn the blade depth up to the maximum (10) Then when im ready to cut I use the either the chipboard or heavy coverstock setting... That gives me a double cut, and the speed seems okay.. One tip I figured out early on is to inspect the cuts before ejecting the cutting mat. If for some reason its not deep enough you can just hit cut again, and it will cut right on top. This gives you a quadruple cut, which I have been doing on intricate .020 parts and it seems to help get them out. Its an easy machine to use once you get the hang of it, its making me lazy about hand cutting anything.. haha
  20. Thanks guys! Thanks bruce! Yeah that is the silhouette portrait cutter...its just a little guy, only cuts 8.5 x 11 but that isn't much of a big deal with what we do... and the printer is also quite small just a 5x5x5 build area.
  21. Now bring on the carbon fiber! the scale motorsports 1/24 scale twill weave on pewter to be exact, I usually hate decals, but i enjoyed working with these for the most part. Used almost an entire sheet on this car: Chassis Pan Intake Plenum Diffuser Then onto some engine assembly: Intake: and the whole thing.. minus belts and throttle linkage (the only kit parts here are the throttlebody, alternator, starter and transmission)
  22. Finally a big update with some color... I was on vacation the beginning of this week, and actually managed to get a lot done, although i didnt take as many photos as usual. But you will get the idea. First up was the wheels, stripped the chrome centers, painted the rims with tamiya transparent blue over the raw aluminum: Then got some basecoat on the body, Tamiya neutral gray with a custom white pearl dullcoat: and then some urethane clear!: Chassis got hit with some bright blue nailpolish and upol rattle can clear (bright i know, but its mostly covered): Paint-a-palooza 2016:
  23. Thanks guys, I cant wait for color either! I like that idea, but its ready for paint now... it would have made carbon fiber decal-ing the hood much easier than what I have in store for me currently... oh well.. haha
  24. Thank you guys!... A little weekend update, I think I am 2 sway-bars and a chassis filler panel away from pulling this thing all apart and starting final cleanup and painting! Woohoo! I tackled the intercooler piping which was intense... but turned out pretty good. Then more fun lathe time making the rear coilovers and the front struts:
  25. Thanks Mike! I'm still finishing up all the loose ends of fabrication on this bad boy.. Hoping to start slinging paint here pretty soon, the engine is about ready. Got some primer on the body and realized those flares didnt hug the body as nice as I expected: So after numerous attempts to fix them in different ways. I just decided to mold them in. This wasn't my first choice, but now that I see it, I like it better : In the downtime of the bodywork, I worked out the Radiator shrouding and mounting. Sourced a starter and throttlebody from an AMT Viper parts kit: The same Viper kit sacrificed its half shafts (just test fit, they will sit properly): . I picked up a Crazy Modeler Ferrari FXX detail set, basically just for the seat belts, tow hook and thinking I could use the other pieces somewhere eventually. The quality of the etching is very very very nice (arguably the nicest I have seen) . I couldn't not use those woven mesh panels so I used my cutter to recreate some of the belly panels. The front one will have the mesh inserts to let some engine compartment heat out, and not let gravel in during off track excursions:
