  1. Bristol Man, If you click on my handle "Lonewolf" you can go to view my profile. Click on "visit my website" which will take you to my fotki account. In the album labelled trucks, you can see a lightbar made from one of the spoons on a white Volvo truck. I found the spoons at our local dollar store. It was a 12 pack of transparent spoons (3 red,3 blue 3 amber& 3 yellow). The handles are 6 inches long and the same consistent size throughout. I simply cut one off at 3 inches to fit the truck I wanted to put it on. Then I sanded it with fine grit sandpaper to round off the cut end. It seems you can shape them somewhat and polish them to look right. The "chrome" center strip is foil duct tape available at any hardware store. I use it instead of BMF with good results at a fraction of the cost. I hope this is of help to you. A heads up to you; if you use a handle to sign-in here, you need to put your full name in the signature box found in the profile section. Welcome to the forum and hope to see some of your work.
  2. It looks like I posted this topic in the wrong section. It's turned out to be quite a rave. Kudos to Gregg & Jairus For running a tight ship , but still keeping it as comfortable as kicking back at a good friend"s home and shooting the bull.
  3. Harry, It's not like you haven't fooled me before (1 for 4), but I can't see anything that makes me think model. With the calibre of work I've been seeing these days , could I be wrong again?
  4. When I discovered the on-line modelling community, it was on "the other magazines" site. When I finally found MCM's site, it quickly became my favorite. What brings me here are a few reasons. First, the level of talent. Secondly, the fact that these talented builders will share any information they have willingly with less talented builders such as myself. Third, everyone is respectful of others which makes it so pleasant to spend time here. Lastly, I can read everything written by the members rather than trying to decipher computer lingo or complete gibberish. Just my two cents worth. What's yours?
  5. Now there's something you don't see every day. Is that from a kit or scratchbuilt?
  6. Beautiful job on that. That's my first 1:1 when I was 18 right down to the color. The only difference is that the guy that I bought it from had dropped a 283 in it,which worked really well with the 2-speed auto tranny that was in it.
  7. What? No Corvette? Lookin' good so far.
  8. Well,it's taken my "spare time" of the last 2 days to get to the last post on this topic,so I guess it's my turn.My name is Tony Guitard and I'm 47 years young.I'm married to my soul mate and high school sweetheart Debbie.I have a son Mark,a step-daughter Cassy, who has blessed us with 2 beautiful grand-daughters Tayla & Lana, and a step-son Allan. We live in Nova Scotia,"Canada's Ocean Playground". I started building models at the age of 13.My first attempts were pretty crude, but I had a lot of fun.My father used to buy and sell just about anything at the weekly flea market at that time.I don't recall where or how he got them, but he ended up with what amounted to a van load of model kits and paints to sell.I was allowed to pick a half-dozen out of them and the rest got sold at the market at prices that were ridiculously low even for that time. What I wouldn't give to have another crack at what are now vintage kits! Once I reached my late teens,my interests turned to real cars and girls.Anyone see a common theme amongst us guys here? Fast forward to 2001.While off work with a back injury,my wife said to me "You need a hobby".I said,"I used to build model cars as a teenager", so she encouraged me to give it another go.I haven't stopped since. While she will sometimes shake her head at me,she supports me entirely. What more can a man want? She is to the point that when we're in stores and something catches her eye, she'll ask,"Honey, can you use this for your models?"You don't get any better than that. Anyway,I would like to close by saying that this is about the best thread ever started on here, and I enjoy this forum completely. I've never seen such a great group of people so ready to help anyone that will simply take the time to post the question that they need answered. The knowledge and talent level continues to astound me on a daily basis. Thanks to all for your help.
  9. There are no words to express how awesome that is.
  10. David, I'm not all that into Nascar models, but I can't help but appreciate the detail you put into yours. They are nothing short of incredible.I'm looking forward to seeing the finished pics of the Pirates of the Carribean car. I've been following that one for awhile.
  11. Andy, Any photos or info you can send would be appreciated. My e-mail address is anthonyguitard@ns.sympatico.ca
  12. The Ken Hamilton tutorial is posted in this category.Just scroll a little farther down the page and you should find it.
  13. Dave That is without a doubt one of the nicest builds I have ever seen. AWESOME!!!!
  14. That is just way too cool!!! I've never done any diarama work, but it's not hard to see there's a tremendous amount of time and effort in that. By the way-I was 12!!
  15. I'm with Harry. I think those numbers are totally out of whack! Furthermore, how do they even come up with that info considering that when you click on a member's profile, most of our members tend to only give very basic information, if any at all.
  16. Thanks for the info guys. Dave-You're right on with your info. The problem I'm having is in trying to find any detailed pics of the car. When I checked the Henry Ford museum site, all I could find was one pic of the car which basically only gives you an overall idea of the body color. I'll have to see if I can track down a copy of "The Complete Car Modeller 2" either on line or at the library.
  17. I'm starting a Lindberg kit of a 1931 Bugatti Royale Victoria and was wondering if anyone knows where I can find some reference material regarding engine, interior, undercarriage, etc. I'm mostly trying to figure out the proper colors for everything.Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  18. Welcome to the forum Jason. You can learn a lot from these guys. I know I have. Nice , clean looking builds.
  19. Peter, I absolutely love it !! Nice build.
  20. Thanks for the great review Dave. I picked up the AMT version which I thought was pretty well done with lots of options, but I have yet to see the Revell kit in the store yet. I'll be sure to pick one up because experience tells me that it will be an easier kit to build than the AMT one.
  21. Peter, I've seen some incredible builds on this site, but those gull wing and sliding rear doors are over the top!!! Kudos on a fantastic job.
  22. Thanks for the info guys. Bill, you were right on the money, those were the exact two kits I was looking at. I think I'll take a pass on those ones.
  23. Have any of you knowledgeable members ever heard of a company called "Lee"? I'm visiting my daughter in Ontario, Canada and in one of their LHS"s I found a couple of kits of older Caddies by Lee. The pictures on the box look like they would be good kits, very nicely detailed in the interiors but no pictures of any engine detail. There is also no indication as to what skill level they may be. I was wondering if they would be worthwhile buying, as I have never heard of this company myself. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  24. Scott, That's an incredible looking General. That's the best looking headache rack that I've ever seen. Did you use anything for a reference, or come up with it on your own?
  25. Looks good Billy. You've had quite a production run going there lately.
