AMT Mustang-GT Funny Car Update 02/27/16 Livery Restored
fairlane1320 replied to Speedfreak's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yes, the H&M built 1965 AFX Mustangs used the factory door glass with chrome frame. Most of the H&M cars were converted to the Shelby R-Model lightweight door windows with aluminum frames during the '65 season. -
I started this awhile ago, an ambitious project building the entire west coast team; C-850 ramp truck, trailer, Mustang and Torino. I've recently got back on the job, making some progress on the truck. The sleeper and bunk are done, the tail light panel is done, but I'm not happy with it. So that will be re-done. The trailer hitch needs to be fabbed. More to come! More build pix here...... http://public.fotki.com/fordflashback/scale-models/1969-c600-drag-team/

I have several of these kits, and yes the chassis is useless for building an accurate replica of the Bronco. The body is also not accurate to build ANY version of the AFX Mustangs. The problem with the body, besides the huge hole in the hood scoop, is the front wheel openings. The real Bronco did NOT have a "stretched" nose, the length was not changed. The front wheels/wheel openings were relocated 4 inches forward. The kit does have correct 10-inch relocation of the rear wheels. Here's my attempt at correcting the flawed body..... http://public.fotki.com/fordflashback/scale-models/1965-mustang-afx-bronco/

I'm freakin' religious about keeping the man cave door closed at all times, the cat could really do some damage. I never dreamed the dogs would do this. Very weird! I'm shopping for a replacement vert now.

I've always been fascinated in the ultra-rare '66 GT350 convertible. So I recently picked up a decent '66 convertible that someone had already partially Shelby-ized. I figured I would repaint it Poppy Red or and add either white or gold stripes, white interior maybe. Sapphire Blue and Emberglo are on the radar as well, a Hertz edition would be cool too. But, my plans got sidetracked today........

The color is on, and the first stripe is done. I had to cut up some 66 Fairlane and Comet stripes to get what I needed. I forgot I even had these stripes. My 1:1 '68 has a '69 cluster with white gauges. I'm not sure why I painted them silver on the 1/25? It also has '69 door trim panels, so the 1/25 interior is sorta correct. LOL

The Cobra model came first out in 1969 with a Q-code (no scoop) 428 CJ standard, and a R-code (ram air) 428 CJ optional. You could order a R-code (non-ram air/no scoop) 428 CJ motor in '68 Fairlane or Torino, but no Cobra. 1968 CJs are pretty rare.

WOW those are both awesome, nice work! Love the color and the white guts!! I had a Royal Maroon '69 Fairlane hardtop daily driver in the 80s, had lots of fun in that one. I'll be building one of those too. Did you use the shock towers/inner fender panels and front suspension from the '66 or '68? I probably should have done what you did with the interior bucket, sounds like a good idea. I'll remember that for the next one. Love to see more pix of both cars.

Here's a project that's been a long time coming, building a 1/25 replica of my real 1/1 Fairlane. I bought the Modelhaus partial kit 10-plus years ago. I've worked on it a little here and there since then. Over the past few months I've finally gotten around to working on it again, and actually making some progress. I have a few '69 Cobra fastback kits, so I had plenty of donor parts. The Modelhaus interior bucket was too thick and I couldn't get the body to fit down over the chassis. So I used the Cobra fastback interior, modifying the package tray to fit the hardtop body. The next problem was the Cobra chassis limited my ride height options with its molded-in rear axle. I ended up using a AMT '66 Fairlane chassis and FE/toploader drivetrain. This enabled me to re-arch the springs and get the tire clearance I needed. The rear tires shown here are a tad big, so I may be looking for something smaller. The front suspension and ride height is still up in the air. It's in primer now and will soon be Wimbledon White, and then I need to find some red GT stripes.

This is the Total Performance/Going Thing rig that Ford took to the race tracks in 1969 to display all of their latest go-fast goodies. I've been wanting to build this for awhile, and I finally found a cab. It's a newer (73-74) style, so the grill isn't correct. I don't know if I want to bother trying to change it or not. I've been looking for more photos of this rig, but they are super scarce. I have a couple more where the rig is in the background, that's it so far. I need to figure out what the cabs wheelbase will be. For donor parts, I have a built tandem axle chassis of unknown origin, which I may shorten. Another chassis donor option is have two (built and unbuilt) AMT Ford C-600 Pepsi delivery trucks, which are single axle. The trailer will need to be figured out, not sure what I'll use there. And, the graphics will definitely be the biggest challenge for me. Any ideas or suggestions, I've got my ears on! Thx, Ron .

I'm in Lansing. Yup that was Milan in 1986, here it is today. Thx guys, looking forward to learning from y'all! May the Fords be with you! -
That's killer! I'm looking forward to seeing the replica Taxi that Roush is building.
-
Looks great! Is there a SOHC under the hood?
-
I already have 3-4 of those, but I've been tempted to buy another just for the box.

Hello from the biggest Ford freak in Michigan! I built lots of models when I was a kid, and a few since then. I have a huge pile of project, unbuilt, and WIP Fords. Maybe you guys can help me make some progress. Here's my '68 Fairlane resin being built to replicate the real in the garage. Thx for having me!
