1/8 '60s era A/Modified Roadster and "Big Deuce" pushcar
old-hermit replied to traditional's topic in Drag Racing
Very nice, clean builds and some cool mods on the rail. Especially for 30 years old. Can you tell me how you modified the frame on the rail to get the dip in front of the engine. -
Great thread Cranky and even greater eye candy. All the techniques posted have their advantages. I've tried everything from a simple flat black board for a background ... ... or a sheet ... ... to building a diorama to use as a back drop... ... but I have found the use of forced perspective to be the simpleist and most effective for me. I use a piece of plywood painted with texture paint to look like asphalt. Then set it on top of the bed of my 1/1 pickup with my pasture as the background. It brings the model up to a comfortable level to stand while shooting and puts the background into perspective. Simple but effective. No fancy camera (Kodak 4mp CX7430) just the sun for lighting and some creative cropping in the Kodak software that came with the camera. I tried photoshop once but I'm to old and feeble minded to figure it out.

Bills Bus

26.5 inches long - 10.5 inches wide - 10 inches tall. -
I can't take credit for this build. My friend Bill conceived the idea, scratch built the body, nose, interior and created the murals. It has been sitting idle for quite a while and I convinced him to finally finish it by agreeing to finish the rolling chassis if he finished the body & interior. Here is a link to his build ... http://public.fotki.com/wrongwaywilly/a ... scale-bus/ Bill e mailed me and said "If you want it finished, come get the ###### thing" so I did. It's got some flaws that are incorrectable but I've been busting my butt to get it finished. I've still got a couple of minor things to do but I went ahead and took some out door pics. http://public.fotki.com/old-hermits-gar ... bills-bus/

I beg to differ Art. All the below are 1/8 scale and styreen framed. Some with resin engines and bodies. They have held up well. There are other large scale builds posted on MCM with complete styrene frames also. http://public.fotki....-vette-flopper/ http://public.fotki....emodels/anglia/ http://public.fotki....emodels/bantam/ http://public.fotki....s/little-mouse/ http://public.fotki....ls/moon-runner/

Thanks for the comments guys. I've been in a real slump lately and am glad it's finished. Drew C - I've built several real Harleys over the last 40 odd years since I started riding. If I can find my old photo album I'll scan a few pics and post them here. Mike MC - If I remember correctly the engine is a die cast issued by Harley for their 75th anniversary. They made a Knuck, Pan & Shovel. You can find them on e bay but the price is usually steep. I like you Pan, what year is it ? Sam - I Have the GI Joe that came with the 45 but don't think thats gonna happen. heh heh heh.

TDR 427 Roadster is Now for Sale

You didn't really think it was going to be cheap didja Harry !!!!! heh heh heh. $2000.00 for a kit ??? Lotsa luck. -
I got the frame mostly done, built a horse shoe oil tank for it and took the front fender and moved it to the rear. I also had to modify the gas tanks for clearance and stole a seat from the parts box. It's actually starting to look like something now. I had a minor frame alignment problem but got it fixed without much difficulty. Since the late model swing arm frame had hydraulic brakes and a foot shift I had to fabricate just about everything to convert it over to mechanical brakes and foot clutch/hand shift. I still have some tweaking to do on the GI Joe pedals but you get the idea. I used the bottom of two pill bottles to create a brake backing plate & drum. I used round plastruc for the brake actuating pivot tube and made the linkage with flat plastruc & piano wire. This has been more tedious than I expected and I have a lot of little fiddly details to go so stay tuned.

Yea you read it right, 1/6. After a long journey into wee scale I'm back into biggies. Take one 1/6 scale Tamiya Harley, one 1/6 scale GI Joe Harley, one 1/6 scale Harley Panhead diecast engine, put them in a blender and see what pops out. This will be converted to a ridgid frame and retro fitted to an early 50's fat bob.

old-hermit replied to old-hermit's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I thought I was finished but when I looked at the pics I still need to paint the fender lamps, streighten up the tires and put a little more grease in certain spots. Ahh well It's close enough to post so here she is. A well used heavy tow rig. All the pics here ... http://public.fotki....-heavy-wrecker/
