Bulldog Heavy Wrecker
old-hermit replied to old-hermit's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Trials and tribulations ... Kinda strange being a sealed kit, the model in the box was not what was pictured on the box. Must of packaged it on a Monday. It is a Mack though. No square tanks, no spoke wheels, different directions, etc. It's been hunt & peck trying to assemble this thing. I did manage to get the chassis built and some weathering done ... I also screwed up the paint job so it went into the stripper tank ... Since it will be awhile before I can repaint it I ordered some two hole bud wheels and a Texas bumper for it. Hopefully my luck will change, maybe not, but it will get finished !!!!! -
I had a G scale wrecker bed waiting for the right truck and picked up a Mack kit that seemed appropriate. After a few modifications to the bed it worked pretty good. Right off the bat I had to enlarge the wheel well and move the rear axles back approximately 3/16". I also added a fender flair to cover the outboard tires. I filled the front of the bed to close the tool boxes I had to put spacers in to raise the bed 1/8" and made some frame skirts to conceal the gap between the bed & frame. Heres a quick mock up Might get it painted Saturday if it quits raining long enough. . .

I'm broke but wanted to keep building so I raided my stash for parts & pieces. I bought a Big Deuce junkyard at the last model show I attended and used it for the basics The only thing I had to buy for this build was a can of paint (satin brown) and a pair of Big Jims headlights. Build pics here ... http://public.fotki....endered-gasser/ edeuce 5 window body, left over wheels/tires from a Big T, scratched FI intake on kit engine. Jeffs dang nice RP straight axle & Jims dang nice headlights. The tach is a kit air cleaner with a rubber O ring and the face was cut from a magazine.

Another one done. Modified Revell Big Tub body on modified Lindberg Big T chassis. Mumford/Ardun head with dual plugs per cylinder on Ford 4 banger. Chain drive blower. Columbia two speed rear end. Bunch of other mods. Hope you like it, I had fun building it. Now I'm going to spend the next few days cleaning up the mess in my shop. More pics here ... http://public.fotki..../3-n-1/phaeton/

old-hermit replied to old-hermit's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
LOL, my mom always said I was a little different !!!!! Heres some pics of the rest of the car the 4 banger is going in Foxer. It will be a late 40's early 50's Bonneville salt flats car when I'm finished. And for top end I made a Columbia two speed rear axle for it. -

1/6 scale photoetched motorcycle drive chain
old-hermit replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Kyosho makes a real metal roller chain for RC bikes that is very close to 1/6 scale. I bought some for a 1/8 scale build but it was to big. It comes assembled in approximately six inch loops. Part # KYOGP15 And is $14.99. I don't have a web address but the phone number is 046-229-4115. -

Thanks Foxer, I had fun building it. A friend of mine mastered the slant six and gave me a resin copy. He does not produce them for sale. -
I cut up a Lindberg Tall T body, added a slant six engine a friend gave me plus a bunch of scratch building and this is what it turned out to be. Full build pics here ... http://public.fotki....s/3-n-1/pickup/

Big Drag to return?
old-hermit replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you think about it $100.00 is a deal for a 1/8 kit with 1/25's going for $25.00 to $40.00 apiece. Buy it with a Hobby Lobby coupon and it's $60.00. I hope R/M will repop ALL the 1/8 kits including the motorcycles. If you look through the Big Boys section you'll notice most large scale builders don't build OOB so the parts packs would be a great addition to the line up. -
Working trucks times 2
old-hermit replied to old-hermit's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Wow, it's been a while. This winter weather has put a serious crimp in my building, plus I've had a couple of large scale builds taking up my work bench. Anyway, I built another trailer for the 359. It just seems to fit better than the dump. I should have painted the interior walls brown too because these reefers had plywood walls. Ahh well, hindsight's 20/20. -
The easiest way would be to use two Honda 750 cc 4's and swap the chain output gear on one to the opposite side. That way the drive chains would be between the inner & outer tires (or both chains in the center). A mechanical or electric shift linkage could be fabbed up to work both trannys. Approximately 70 hp (stock) per engine would be adequate to turn the steam rollers. An easier way would be to eliminate one tranny and use a shaft between the engines with the drive sprocket in the center. Hope that makes sense.

There are quite a few people waiting for Mike to do another run of his sedan/sedan delivery body David. I've been waiting over 5 years. You could use the cowl from a Deuce kit and scratch build the wooden rear body to look like this '27 ... or Google depot hack for reference. -
I've been watching this all the way through. Dang nice build !!!!!

Me too !!!!!

Finished today ... half scratched '27 T body, resin 351 W engine, resin headlights, resin finned brake drums, stainless steel banjo steering wheel, real rubber ribbed floor mat, Big tub chassis with Lindy Custom T wire wheels & tires, lathe turned aluminum air cleaner, and a lot of head scratching to make it all fit togther and work. build pics here ... http://public.fotki....alemodels/27-t/
