2 part putty question
E St. Kruiser50 replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
NO PROBLEM MARSHALL - IT'S EASY TA MIX Ya just keep adding the "REFRESHER" to your filler until it's about the consistancy you want, take a bit out of the container, add a bit of catalyst, mix, and your ready to spread. Most brands "Set-up" faster than others, so I'd do several very small batches to see how much hardener to add, and how fast it sets up. Been usin' mine so long that it's like "Ridin' a bike" , ya "just do it" . -
2 part putty question
E St. Kruiser50 replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've used EVERCOAT RAGE for ten years or more. Tried Bondo once, but it finished so badly I threw it away. Here's what I use to "REFRESH" my Evercoat fillers. It's nothing but pure resin in a quart can. Anywhere resin can be purchased, like at a craft or plastics store, you can find some. Doesn't have to be this brand, as long as it's resin. It may be called "Casting Resin". -
What happened to paint??
E St. Kruiser50 replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting topic. I too have been in and out of the hobby at times in years gone by. Career, other interests, and family stuff side-tracked me a time or two like most of us. For me after after a few decades, I've found there are two basic classifications of paints available to us - HOBBY AND AUTOMOTIVE. Now some may not agree with me here on this and that's O.K., it's just my take on it, SO DON'T GET TESTY WITH ME OR I'LL SICK HARRY ON YA WITH HIS "SILVER BULLETT" . One of the main differences between the two classifications I mentioned, is that besides the base chemical quality being different, many auto paints, even in spray cans, have a U.V. protector in them, and other aditives which inhibits deterioration, and other aging characteristics, even under adverse weather conditions or high heat, because they'll be exposed to the elements. Some even use different propellants, which can affect quality. And differing solvents can make a huge difference too. Hobby paints are just that - for a hobbiest, and there is a huge difference, even with the best like IMOHP - Tamiya. I've been on this forum for awhile and when done right, I never hear anyone complain about the auto paints such a Duplicolor and Plasticote, it's just the hobby paints we mostly hear about here. This seems to be an ongoing argument, especially from the guys who say they get "GOOD RESULTS" using the "HobbyPaints", but to me "GOOD IS A RELATIVE TERM" LIKE A "10 FOOTER" . Looks GOOD at TEN FEET . When I take my stuff to shows, my paint jobs get a lot of attention and I get lots of questions, like HOW DO YOU GET A PAINT JOB TO LOOK LIKE THAT ???? (EVEN UP-CLOSE ) It's not just the skill of painting that makes them good, but also the quality and the type of products I use. Then there's urethanes....I LOVE URETHANES . URETHANES TO ME ARE FAR-AND-AWAY THE BEST PAINTS AVAILABLE TODAY FOR DURABILITY, USER FRIENDLYNESS, AND QUALITY - EVEN THE CHEAP BRANDS THAT I'VE USED CAME OUT BEAUTIFUL, PROBABLY BECAUSE I USED A GOOD REDUCER AND CATALYST. To me all the auto paints, even in rattlecans, are far better quality now than they've ever been. IMO, Tamiya is the only HOBBY PAINT that will give you quality, and good repetitive results, even using an automotive clear-coat to seal it, and an auto primer to prep it, and you don't hear complaints here about it when it's done right. -
Inappropriate forum behavior
E St. Kruiser50 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
GOOD JOB HARRY GLAD TO SEE YOU'RE USING YOUR "BULLITT" . No one here likes "Childish Ranting and Bad Mouthing", so if you "PUNCH THEIR TICKET" and send them on their way IF THEY DON'T CHANGE AND APOLOGISE, they and their disrespectful behavior won't be missed here one bit. THANKS HARRY FOR BEING A "STRAIGHT SHOOTER" . -
I was just FUNNIN' with ya Peter . I myself live this EASY GOING, LOOSLEY METICULOUS AND ORGANIZED LIFE - NOT ANAL ABOUT IT THOUGH IN THE LEAST . I LOVE TO DODDLE AND TAKE MY TIME AT EVERYTHING - I NEVER GET IN A HURRY AT ANYTHING, BUT DO SEEM TO GET QUITE A BIT DONE . Other peoples clutter doesn't bother me one bit, but I don't care for it in my own life. Guess my model building reflects my life style .

I'll say it simply - Plastic has to flow and these are the simplest places for molding. A SIMPLE FIX: BARE METAL FOIL - I just clean up those small attachment points, use a foil adhesive, and add a small piece of foil, and the foil blends in perfectly with the surrounding chrome - WALA . NEVER HAD ANYONE CATCH IT . (Sorry, no peeves. Got a buncha kits, and I love each one . Some could be better I suppose, but I remember the wood kits that came before plastic. IT'S ALL GOOD .)

TO CLEAR OR NOT TO CLEAR THAT IS THE QUESTION!
E St. Kruiser50 replied to Tom Kren's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hi Tom Not sure about your paint supplies or spray equipment, but if it were me, I'd add a little "Gold Pearl" to some good urethane clear, and airbrush it. You'd not only get a "GOTCHA GLOSS" , but beautiful "Gold Highlights" from different angles. Just my 2cts -
This is a beautifully exacuted build . There is so much to look at, but it doesn't look busy, as it's all perfectly where it belongs, and each piece has been expertly built and finished to fit in perfectly with the entire theme. Beautiful color and finish on the body. Can't say enough good things here to really do your workmanship justice .

I will do that .

Hi Ron Nice "BRING BACK" on a beautiful car Been watchin' your thread. Coming along very nicely . A few years ago a friend gave me a baskit case kit of a '60 Buick. The scripts were gone, as was the roof, hood, bumpers, grill, etc. You get the picture. Anyway, Modelhaus supplied all that I needed, and I finished it up fairly quickly as the friend who gave it to me was moving to Arizona, and I wanted it done so he could see it before he left. Never happy with not really finishing it the way I wanted it, I have taken it apart after collecting the parts I felt I needed to redo it. Don't want to "HI-JACK YOUR THREAD", just wanted to share my project with you, as I won't be doing this on a thread of it's own. Here's how it looked done the first time. And here she is in progress and pieces. Here's all the pieces I collected. I even have the right engine now, and other chrome pieces like the door handles, windshiels wipers, etc. Thanks for letting me share it with you - dave
