67 Dodge Coronet bracket racer...Updated 10/18/2009

Hey Wayne This whole project is really nice . It was a lot cooler though when you lived here in Oregon, and you brought this kinda stuff to our meetings, and we got ta see it up-close and personal. Keep up the great work Wayne, Ill keep watchin' - dave -
I posted this response to a comment Harry made about how he's trying to keep everyone happy here on the forum about OFF-TOPICS being posted, but is having some confusion about how to do it, and not have people getting upset. I decided to do a seperate thread. THIS IS MY RESPONSE...NOT GREGGS OR HARRYS. Personally and simply, I think we all need to realize that we can't have everything our own way on this forum, and be willing to let it be that way, once things have been discussed and decided by HARRY AND GREGG. Why selfishly make their job more difficult, and more labor intensive, monitoring this site, and having to settle squabbles and complaints, instead of spending more quality time putting out a great magazine, and visiting with us here on this forum we all enjoy. I hear people disagreeing from time to time about different topics, and they sound pretty much like "THE OTHER GUY ON THE OTHER FORUM THAT MANY HERE SEEM TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ' I THINK SOME OF US NEED TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR....AND THEN THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE GOINT TO SAY, AND HOW IT WILL AFFECT OTHERS, INSTEAD OF JUST NOT CARING, AND "CLAIMING THEIR RIGHTS". WHATTA YA ALL SAY THAT WE ALL TRY, INCLUDING ME, TO BE MORE RESPECTFUL TO ONE ANOTHER HERE, AND TREAT EACH OTHER MORE AS FRIENDS, INSTEAD OF HIDING BEHIND OUR COMPUTORS AND USING THEM AS WEAPONS AT TIMES, TO BE DOWN RIGHT MEAN AND SELFISH. Here's my quote from the other thread. { Quote} HARRY.....THE FIRST THING I'd like to do is compliment you on doing a GREAT JOB here on the forum trying to provide all of us with what we want, and would like to see this forum be, and support us in the topics we post. Personally, I don't see how you do it, with everything else you have to do besides . BUT.....I DON'T SEE YOUR JOB AS A BABY SITTER....FOR EVERY LITTLE COMPLAINT . Most everyone here is pretty grown up about what's posted, but a few seem to like to "STIR IT UP", or COMPLAIN and want everything their way. I understand that "THE OTHER FORUM" has some pretty hard and fast rules and his line of communication is viewed as 'PRETTY BRUTAL". I think his style of communicating, and his methods of keeping the rules and order, are the biggest problems, "NOT THE RULES THEMSELVES". DIPLOMACY AND GOOD COMMUNICATION ARE THE SKILLS USED TO EFFECTIVELY KEEP ORDER AND MAINTAIN THE RULES, WITHOUT FEELING LIKE YOU HAVE TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY. TO ME, IT'S NOT YOUR JOB TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY....WHICH AS YOU CAN TELL "AINT NEVER GONNA HAPPEN" ANYWAY . YOU AND GREGG BOTH HAVE A GOOD SENCE OF HUMOR HAVE GREAT PERSONALITIES, AND EVERYONE LIKES YOU GUYS BECAUSE YOUR ONE OF US, AND YOU TREAT US LIKE FRIENDS AND FAMILY, AND YOU LISTEN TO WHAT PEOPLE SAY AND RESPOND RESPECTFULLY...MOST OF THE TIME .....YOU NEED TO DRAW STRENGTH FROM THAT. WE ALREADY KNOW YOU WOULDN'T TREAT US LIKE "THE OTHER GUY", SO YOU NEED TO QUIT WORRYING ABOUT COMPLAINTS AND MAKING EVERYONE HAPPY. WE'RE MOSTLY ADULTS HERE, AND THOSE WHO DON'T ACT THAT WAY NEED TO BE NICELY TOLD "TO GET OVER THEMSELVES AND GROW UP" . WHAT I'M SIMPLY SAYING IS, "WE ALL NEED RULES AND REGULATIONS" FOR GUIDELINES AND BOUNDRIES, SO THERE ISN'T UNMANAGIBLE TURMOIL HERE. YOU AND GREGG NEED TO DECIDE WHAT THOSE RULES ARE, AND THEN THAT'S IT ...NICELY, RESPECTFULLY, FIRMLY, AND DEPENDABLY REAFFIRMING AND MAINTAINING THOSE GUIDELINES....SIMPLE .

I've read this response several time since I started this thread, and this response has haunted me . I makes me sad that anyone would spend their life not doing what they're passionate about. I understand that circumstances some times put us in that position, and our families have to be taken care of and put first, and at times sacrifices have to be made, especially right now with the economy like it is. But in the long run I want to encourage people here to believe in themselves, and don't settle for less than what you want over the long haul, if it's possible. It's good to believe in yourself and do the best job you can do. You go home feeling satisfied, and happy that you did a good days work, and if you like your job, there's a quiet joy that hepls keep you a little more at peace with the rest of the world . -

NOTHIN' LIKE THE SOUND OF A "RUMPY MOTOR" RUNNIN THROUGH A SET OF HEADERS. Readin' your post brought back memories of my "ol' Hemi", runnin' through headers and a pair of Corvair mufflers. Nothin' to um', so you got a "Sweet Rumble" at idle. Hiway Patrol followed me home one day and made my dad real happy. Asked me to raise the hood - he said change your mufflers -
O.K. - NOW THIS IS HOW A CAR LIKE THIS IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK WITH 24"er's - BEAUTIFUL . MAN THIS IS NICE . LOOKS LIKE YOU REALLY TOOK YOUR TIME ON THIS, AND WELL WORTH IT. CONGRATS - dave

Hey Russell YOUR LITTLE TAXI TURNED OUT GREAT. Been hopin' one of these would show up here. Looks just like on the box art - VERY, VERY NICE

THIS THREAD IS FUNNY HARRY - I THINK YOU'RE YOUR OWN WORST ENEMY, AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT, AND THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO SEE HOW EXCITED YOU'LL GET. AT LEAST I HOPE EVERYONES KIDDING HERE. I MEAN COME ON YOU GUY'S - DEBATING OVER PICS. YOU GUY'SLL DEBATE ANYTHING WON'T YA ??? Back in the late 50's and early '60's, all the AMT kits came in the same box. They were labeled on the end, and you opened it up to see what ya got. Come on you guys find something else to discuss LIKE HEALTH CARE . YOU GUYS MUST BE BORED . AND BY THE WAY, THE 50'S WERE GREAT . -
GREAT IDEA HARRY I JUST VOTED. NOW IT CAN BE KEPT WHERE NO ONE WILL READ IT ,IF THEY DON'T LIKE OFF-TOPIC STUFF .

Every since this great country of ours was founded, and even through it's founding, this has been a country that has prevailed, even through much adversity, not unlike many of us here on this forum. In fact to me, this country of ours reflects in a larger way, the strong and courageous spirit of each individual who has faced their own challanges and failures in life, and yet somehow, managed in their own strength to forge ahead, not skirting around their trials, but meeting them head-on, and believing in themselves, and the people believing in their ability to overcome and once again be successful. I SEE NO SOUP LINES - I SEE NO BREAD LINES. When this country was founded, it was founded as ONE NATION UNDER GOD. The only country in the history of the world from the beginning, to CHOOSE GOD to form a country under. THIS ISN'T RELIGEOUS STUFF YET FOLKS - IT'S JUST PLAIN HISTORY. THIS COUNTRY WAS DEDICATED TO GOD BY OUR FOUNDING FATHERS, AND THE VALUES AND PRINCIPLES WERE FOUNDED ON GOD'S EQUALITY OF TREATMENT AND LOVE FOR MANKIND. That's why we're different than any other nation on the face of the earth. That's why we prevail and succeed through trials and adversity, and come out stronger and better. We as a country are a beacon to the needs of the rest of the world. We as a country feed more of the world than any other single country in the world. We send more on going aide to countries all over the world, than any other single country in the world. This country has it's ups and downs just like us humans do - IT'S CALLED THE CYCLE OF LIFE. Our country is not perfect, any more than any one of us are. But it's NO ACCIDENT that no matter what we face we come out of it, better and stronger and some times even somewhat wiser. FOLKS IT'S ALL BY >HIS DESIGN< WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IT OR NOT. HE'S STILL GOD, AND HE STILL LOVES US ALL EVEN WITH ALL OUR IMPERFECTIONS. DO YOU KNOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE LIKE THAT??? WE DON'T HAVE TO WRING OUR HANDS IN FEAR AND WORRY. WE JUST NEED TO DO WHAT PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY HAVE ALWAYS DONE SINCE IT'S START. BELIEVE IN OURSELVES AND OUR ABILITIES, HAVE FAITH IN THE FUTURE AND GOD BLESSING THIS COUNTRY THAT HE LOVES SO MUCH, THEN ROLL UP OUR SLEEVES AND WORK HARD LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW, - AND ENJOY IT AND THIS LIFE, AND GOD WILL BLESS THE HARD WORK, AND THIS COUNTRY, AS HE ALWAYS HAS - AND WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IN HIM OR NOT - HE STILL BELIEVES IN YOU. THIS WORLD OF OURS WAS CREATED WITH A ">SHELF-LIFE<" LIKE EACH OF US. OUR LIVES WILL END - THIS EARTH WILL END, AT A PRE-DESTINED TIME. NOTHING WILL STOP THAT - NOT EVEN ANY OF YOU BELIEVING I'M WRONG WILL CHANGE IT. WHAT'S REALLY COOL, IS THAT THIS IS STILL THE RICHEST AND MOST POWERFULL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, WITH MORE RESOURCES AT IT'S DISPOSAL, THAN ANY OTHER NATION ON EARTH. THIS COUNTRY HAD BEEN ADJUSTING AND REDEFINING ITSELF SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY - THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MAKE IT SO GRAET - IT'S ABILITY TO ADAPT AND CHANGE QUICKLY ENOUGH TO WORK FOR MOST EVERYONES GOOD - EXCEPT THE WHINNERS AND COMPLAINERS . NEVER COULD SEE WHAT THEY GET OUT OF THAT THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THIS COUNTRY HAS GONE THROUGH ROUGH TIMES. PROBABLY JUST THE FIRST TIME FOR MANY OF YOU WHO ARE YOUNGER TO EXPERIENCE THIS. LASTLY, MOST PEOPLE IN DEVELOPING NATIONS, LOOK TO THE "WEST" AS THEIR ROLE MODEL FOR THEIR LIFESTYLE AND THEIR CULTURE. THERE ARE THOSE HERE WHO COULD USE LOADS OF NUMBERS, ARIFICIAL AND OUT OF CONTEXT HISTORY LESSONS TO PROVE SOME SORT OF POINT ABOUT THEIR "higher thinking" ABOUT THE FUTURE, BUT HEY FOLKS, WE'LL STILL BE AROUND LONG AFTER THE PERSON PASSES ON WHO WROTE IT. WHAT I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS, IS IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW BAD i MESS UP MY LIFE , OR HOW BAD WE HAVE MESSED UP THIS COUNTRY - - - "GOD WILL BLESS THIS COUNTRY AS HE ALWAYS HAS - - BECAUSE THIS COUNTYR IS NOT ABOUT OUR PURPOSE - IT'S ABOUT HIS PURPOSE. BUT YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE TO SEE IT . THE ONLY PEOPLE I EVER SAW WHO MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE FUTURE OF THIS COUNTRY, WERE THOSE WILLING TO QUIT COMPLAINING, BELIEVE HARD ENOUGH, AND WORK HARD ENOUGH TO MAKE GOOD CHANGES HAPPEN. I BELIEVE THE BEST IS YET TO COME - GOD HAS PROMISED .

The Dreaded Orange Peel
E St. Kruiser50 replied to Bernard Kron's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hey Bernard One of the things that I have realized reading the posts on a lot of different subjects here, is that we all learn how to do all these model building skills and techniques differently. One of the constants though, is that to do ANYTHING WELL or even better, you have to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, AND THEN MORE PRACTICE . First of all, painting to me isn't just something I spray on a plastic piece, there's the mechanics of the paint, the chemistry, compatibility, timing, technique and enviorenment. Sounds like a lot to think about all at once, but after a while it becomes second nature, and necessary for repeatably good results. I CAN SPRAY "HOT LACQUERS OVER ENAMELS" REPEATABLY WITH NO ATTACKING because I understand those 6 things I just mentioned above. The HOLLYWOOD GRAHAM that won at Salt lake has 36 coats of paint and I NEVER TOUCHED IT WITH SANDPAPER - EVER. HAVEN'T SANDED COLOR OR CLEAR, OR STRIPPED A PAINT JOB IN 10 YEARS because I understand those 6 characteristics for painting and for repeatable success. All my paint jobs are finished within 24 hours or over-lapping 24 hour periods for multi-color paint schemes. The "LIL' HEBBY" I painted last Friday, including clear-coat in one hour total. By Saturday afternoon it was rubbed out and totally foiled. LIST OF THINGS I DO DIFFERENTLY (1)Spray in a heated spray booth. (2)Spray at atleast 80 degrees. (3)ALWAYS use a fresh can of paint when rattlecanning a complete body and it's body parts. (4)ALWAYS use my air-brush at 65 - 85 PSI. (5)NEVER let the paint dry more than an hour between coats. (6)ALWAYS rub out the paint within 24 hours. (7)ALWAYS spray wet-in-wet, even the clear over the color coat. (8)NEVER get afraid of trying something new. Every skill I learned came with great difficulty and challanges to my abilities and my personality, but the rewards were ALWAYS WORTH IT. -

Scribing Panel Lines & Opening Doors
E St. Kruiser50 replied to ViperDave's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
DYMO-TAPE AND A # 11 BLADE WORKS BEST FOR ME. I BUY THE BLACK IN ROLLS OF THREE AT OFFICE MAX. Either for pre-scribed lines to open doors. or to just scribe a new line for doors trunks, etc You can even do rounded corners as the TRIMMED DYMO-TAPE acts as a guide. I use it two layers thick, to ensure no "SLIPPAGE" . HAS A GREAT STICKY BACKING. SIMPLE, AND ALWAYS WORKS. -
What's Everyone Profession,etc..job,
E St. Kruiser50 replied to stanleymsn's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Well let's see. In college I double-majored in design/mechanical engineering, and architectural engineering. I was going to design skycsrapers. I still love architecture. Trouble was, I was a also car guy and an artist. When I found out about LANCER CO., and I went to see an old friend - the owner, John Brunson - all my plans were over and I was hooked . Became a pattern maker there, from my old model building days. Spent 13 years there making slot bodies there first and then branched off into doing plaster-casting molds, candy molds, resin casting molds, and candle making molds, as well as molds for body organs for LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY JUST NEXT DOOR. That was pretty interesting, as the molds had to be life size. Used them in their classes as a teaching aide. Then came to Oregon, and stayed in vacuum forming plastics, as I really enjoyed it. Went back to college and took several semesters in machining technology. Needed a lot better skills and technical learning for my new job. After that I started designing and buiding high-speed in-line tooling, for clear packaging blisters mostly. Eventually got to design and help build production and assembly lines for different processes like heat sealing and product display assemblies. I invented the " FOLDING CLEAR CLAMSHELL PACKAGE" while I was taking those machining college coarses. It was designed for a local company here in Portland. It even had the "SNAPS" that you still see being used today. I did it as a project in class - Got an "A" . I taught my self how to build steel rule dies too. That was part of our process for the second stage of the forming process on our slow single stage machines, where the die-cutting was a second operation at another machine, to remove the parts from the plastic "Web". Eventually though we learned to incorporate the steel-rule in our high speed tooling, as a form and die-cut in place stage, and made production so much faster. Ended up being the chief designer and tooling manager for several years, but my heart and hands were really created to DESIGN AND BUILD. I left that job, and went to work for the largest vacuum former on the WestCoast. What a great choice that was. As good as the last job was, this was so much better. I LOVE TO BE CHALLANGED AND LEARN, and I had the opportunity and blessing to work with some of the best in the industry. Each person there was a total master and craftsman at their trade. It was like getting paid to work in your favorite candy store. These guys were professional pattern makers, and tool makers of the highes caliber. Some had been trained by German craftman well known here in the U.S. at the time. The bottom line is, I GOT PAID TO PLAY FOR 40 YEARS - AND I LOVED EVERY MOMENT, AND HAVE THE BEST MEMORIES I COULD EVER IMAGINE. RETIRED NOW FOR NEARLY SEVEN YEARS, BUT STILL USING MUCH OF THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EQUIPMENT I ACQUIRED OVER ALL THOSE WONDERFUL YEARS. -
FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK I have a walk in heated spray booth, that I'm using as we speak. I just finished spraying a project @80 degrees. 59 degrees outside and raining. I've read here where the guys with the same problem as you, put their model in a pre-warmed food dehydrator, and that helps get rid of the moisture and blushing. Also, don't forget that pre-warming the can of paint helps a lot too.

One of the things to remember is that ALL PAINTS ARE TRANSPARENT no matter how opaque they look or are advertased as, hence the base color, the gray primer in this case, under your top-coat, the Chevy Orange, will wash the orange out and make it look WEAK . Any bright color, orange yellow, red, greens and blues, all need a WHITE BASE-COAT, so the light can reflect properly to give you the "POP" you want and the great colors you expect. You can use a white primer or a white paint before your color-coat - either will work. Just make sure your brand of paint you use are compatible and do samples first to avoid any problems on your project. Any other color but white, softens or darkens your top-coat color, which in some cases you may want, but at least knowing this allow you more control over the out-come ON PURPOSE - NOT ACCIDENTLY AND NOT REALLY KNOWING WHY it came out like it did.

YOU GUY'S SHOULD TRY HOK URETHANES SOMETIME. IF YOU HAVEN'T USED IT YET, THE DIFFERENCE WILL SHOCK YOU . WHEN I GO TO SHOWS, I'M ALWAYS ASKED SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT MY PAINT FINISHES. $$$$ ?? YES - BUT SO WORTH IT .
