Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight
stavanzer replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
And....... Nothing. The Lindberg Ship kits are all trash. Round2 undercuts all the good work they are doing by going back to the well on these. Not Sure why they do it, and I'd really like to know if it is paying off. I know Hobby Lobby keeps blowing all the excess Lindberg kits out at clearance prices every quarter. These Lindberg molds are 60+ years old, and are an embarrassment to the company. Even back in the 1980's as a wet behind the ears kid, Lindberg kit were always the last choice. Detail was soft, and things seldom looked quite right. Nothing has improved since then. Nice to see the Barris Kit, but it is another Non-Starter for me. Change the Tooling back to the original Wilhelm's Wonder, and get back to me. -

Revell 30 Model A Ford Production Halted?
stavanzer replied to Daddyfink's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I just checked the Revell Website. No Mention of any troubles on the '30 Coupe, and it is still listed, and presumably still available for purchase. I understand that Revell owes the public nothing, but an official, public response would be a nice gesture to to those of us who support their company. Something a bit bland, with enough detail to at least hold off the conspiracy theorists. I'm not asking for promises, just some hard information to stop the internet rumors. It seems to me that even after at least 10 years of very active Internet Effects on public companies, most corporate leadership still thinks that "just ignore the Internet, and it will go away" is a good response to any trouble. (sigh). Two sentences from Revell HQ could stop most of this thread in it's tracks, and build good P.R. Just my thoughts IMHO. -
Daz, I just won a copy of this kit myself from the 'Bay. The pics in the ad were awful, so I was not sure what I was getting. Turns out the previous builder was a first class painter, and did a superb job on all the body parts. The Rest is built and painted, but not to the same high standards. I'm going to rebuild and repaint the chassis and engine and then assemble the kit. The only thing missing are the wheels. I can scrounge those. It is a very simple kit and has what looks more like a Buick Nailhead than a small block for the engine. That same engine or variations of it, is in the CHP Camaro, the Chevy Monza, and some others. Revell tools at this time were much simplified, and this engine is a prime example of that. The Real Rubber Tires in my kit are OK, which is a first. They are usually rotten by now. Hope you have a Fun Build with it. It is not a serious kit. Don't take it seriously. Just Enjoy it as a 'time capsule' build for the era in which it was made.

Neat! I vote for a weathered beater.

Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
stavanzer replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Man the AFX Version has the hood with 'Nostrils'! THAT'S what I was waiting for. Now I'll take two regular Comets and 4 of the AFX please. Between these Comet kits and the Hudson Drag Car, It is going to be a Moebius 2017 for me. Thanks, Dave and Co. P.S. I waiting for a Ford 4x4 P.U as well. I have some fond memories of a worn out Ford Longbed with a Grannie Low 4 Speed, crawling around the hills of Leadville Colorado for hours at a time in low gear, in 1980 on vacation. I'd love to build that truck. -
For me, the real selling point on most of the Round2 Retro Delux kits is the expanded Decal Sheets and the Pad Printed Tires. I have almost every one of the kits that they have released, with the exception of the "Long Lost Tool" stuff. (The Pacers, ect) What makes the purchase decision easy is Fresh Plastic, Decals & Tires. It has sold me on a new kit, when I already have 4 on the shelf. That said, I agree with the Ace. Huge Decal Sheets, A plethora of tire options, tinted glass, and some extra 'goodies' like the newly tooled chrome steelies or the 5 spokes that have appeared as separate small sprues by them selves, would be all it takes to push me into pulling the trigger on a purchase. Re-creating long lost combos especially with tooling that has not been seen in 15/20 years just seals the deal. If I were marketing them, I'd even lean on the 'Limited Edition/ Reserve One Now' tactic that has been used on the Space 1999 and Streetle Beetle kits. (Assuming that has worked, of course) I'd like to see if there could be a Tie in to the March Meets too. That might just be worth the trouble.

Well, the whole Elky this has me watching the 'Bay for Street Machine Version. Now that I've seen what's in it, I want one. Man that '90's boxart did not do that kit any favors. Just using Round2's New "Vintage Style" boxart and updated decal sheet would have doubled sales. One will turn up at a price I can swing eventually. I look forward to building it. Heck, It might even carry a Soap Box Derby Car.

So You're the one I have to Thank for this new obsession with MPC Camaro's. I just won a Night Prowler on the 'Bay. I've got one of these Thunder Z's on the watch list. Did it only have one set of rims on the Chrome tree?

I use "Lunatic Fringe" in an affectionate way. It denotes the folks who really care about the small details, from the "Buy & Build It" crowd who support the hobby by purchasing the bulk of all kits sold. In Aircraft & Armor Model forums, the same group are called AMS Modelers.(Anal Modeling Syndrome) These are the guys who will quibble over the smallest detail, when it is incorrect. (Or when they THINK it is incorrect). However, both groups have a symbiotic relationship with each other. The B&B guys are usually from the "Well, it looks like a Farley Fruitbat Mk IV from here" school of thought. They usually are not too concerned with the minutia of the kit. They live by Sir Thomas Sopwith's dictum, "That is it looks right, it is right". They buy most of the kits sold (apparently) and seldom show up on any online forums. The AMS guys sweat the small things. Any Detail, no matter how small, is measured, compared with Photos and Plans, and commented on if it look incorrect. These guys (when they are polite about it) help keep things from going off the rails. They contribute to the "Looks Right/ Is Right" appearance of the finished kit. However there Detail Guys can get easily side tracked in the weeds over the tiniest of errors, and they can be pushy about it. Those of us who mostly build cars don't see the heights this that this can get to. Hang out on a dedicated Airplane or Armor forum, and watch the flamewars erupt when a new kit comes out and the "experten" weigh in on how accurate, suitable, ect the new kit is. We car builders live in a much more mellow place online. Disclaimer::The Foregoing are MY opinions. Based on 15 years of observing and commenting on all three kinds of forums. I could easily have overstated (or understated) things based on what I've read, seen and done. My views are mine alone. Others may totally different opinions, view and experiences. YMMV. -
Sweet "Little Black Bullet"! Those Revell 'Stangs build up Cleanly.

I've never seen an Edsel look so good.

That Box Art does invoke a certain "Buy it NOW!" response in some modelers. (Me included)

Nice to learn something new. Even better to see that the Manufacturer is ahead of the 'lunatic fringe' on accuracy. Great Work, Dave M. -
Nice Paint. That colour works for that car.
-
Neat Build! Has a nice 'nostalgia' vibe to it. Looks like something you'd see at the track at the March Meets.

I think it is a bit soon for a re-issue. I suspect that the secondary market still has plenty on offer. But, I could be entirely mistaken. Revell has been releasing old T.D. kits at a rate of 2/3 a year, so the R.R. might be up on the list sooner rather than later. Either way, I'm not too sure how much pent up demand there may be (or not be) for this kit.

I've never seen that old Monogram Model A look so good! Your attention to detail, and rewired wheels, just add to an outstanding build.

Full Flares, Big Spoiler, 5-spoke Mags, Bright Two-Tone Paint, Lame 1980's engine. The "All Flash, No Dash" look that was about all you could get in the '80's. That is when I graduated,(1981) so that is what I want to capture.

My Grandma had one of those, but she lives in West Covina. Is that close enough? Great Build! I really like the colour.

Beautiful build. I'll just never get used to those huge rollers under 1960's Iron, though.
