That is just plain SICK. I'm throwing my glue away and taking up knitting.

OK guys. Going to give up on the "workable" hinged hoods on these cars. They are going to be in a used car lot diorama so I'm just going to spot epoxy them open with the appropriate supports. But... thanks for all of the great ideas for future builds.

Great choice, one that I had considered. He is indeed outrageous. Purple sport coat, red tie, brown slacks, and black and white shoes ala Letterman. Was also thinking about one of the new merc releases, but he wouldn't have that much class.
-
Great idea Raul, thanks. Unfortunatly, bodies are glued on, so I can't get in from the bottem.

My first attempt at a diorama is coming along nicely (see previous posts). Settled on the Fast Eddy used car lot facade from scale equipment. The lot has a couple of roadsters, coupes, a corvette, etc...All hot rods. There is room for a "reserved parking" space for the manager. Using "Irv" as the manager. Old, bald, fat guy, like myself, with a big cigar in one hand, and outrages choices of clothing colors. Obviously a fast talking used car salesman. Here is my question. What car should I build as Irvs' ride?

I have a couple of models, 48 Ford convert and 50 Willys coupe with the hoods off. I would like to install the hoods with hinges. I'm not very skilled so am looking for a simple way that my limited skills could handle. Doesn't have to be super scaled or detailed, just working. Any ideas?

I totally agree with the credits at shows. My 33 chevy street rod was always shown with a stand up sign listing the builder, painter, interior, etc. The car was in Street Rodder twice and won awards at both national and local shows. I'm sure that the guys who did most of the work appreciated their mention. -
I would love to have both. However.........

Sorry, not a pro painter, but this topic begs the question. Why would one have a pro painter paint his, or her, model? Isn't the whole idea about "look what I did", maybe good, maybe O.K., maybe I need help. Is the next step having one of you super builders do a kit for me? Detail the whole thing, with working doors, wheels off lug bolts, lights, and convertable tops that work, and then saying "look what I did"? For most of us, I think not. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being show quality, I'm about a 4. But it is all mine. Bad fits, rattle can paint without a spray booth or de-hydrator. But I did it myself. -
True J, just a little frustrating. You guys are right on top of things with the forums. I value the inputs much more than the magazine, or in my case, the lack of. Is it possible for me to cancel my subscription and still view forum subjects? Sure, it is nice to see articles about special skills and shows, but not at all as valuable as the comments and tips from the forum folks.

Can't comment. Still only have the July copy after subscribing. Sure wish the shipping schedule was as prompt as the subscription check cashing.

Not actually a topic but I'm just curious. How many hours a week do folks here spend on their hobby? Buying, building, researching, posting etc... Might make for an interesting pole.

Thanks for the help gang. Per previous posts, I'm attempting my first diorama. Ran out of shelve space for my cars so I decided to remove a wine rack from a spot in my living room and convert it into a used car lot. Having never done anything like that before, I asked for help and ideas on the diorama forum. Loads of great responses on every question I asked. Thanks again to all for sharing your knowledge. Now some of my mentors are asking for progress pics. Since my car building skills are fair at best (detailing for me is adding plug wires), wont be posting any of them. All shots will be from at least 3' so my throw away 35mm should work. Maybe as my skills improve, I will be able to justify a good camera, but not now. Would rather spend my money on kits.
-
I posted this in the "general" section with lots of views but no reponses. Maybe better luck here? I have a single use 35mm camera, and am not terribly skilled on my PC. Can anyone tell me step by step how to post some pics?
-
I have only a one time use 35mm camera and not to skilled on my PC. How do I get pics posted? Really need a step by step procedure.

In my never ending search for items for my first diorama, I stumbled onto this site. www.printmini.com. Some of you experianced builders my know of it, but maybe not. Anyhow, they offer many down loadable items in color. They can be cut, folded, and glued. Mainly doll house items but also office furnature and accessories, flooring, etc. in 1/2 scale.

Great advice Chris, thanks.

Just re-visited the 72 diorama and added a response as to what I was doing. A quick comment. I'm doing my best to get into pre-school, while you and your club have P.H.D.s

Great job that brings back a lot of memories. In 72 I was 39, married with two sons, into water ski racing and using a 70 Ranchero to tow my ski boat. Retired from racing, swapped the 351 Cleveland in my car with the 427 medium riser (530 dyno HP) in my boat and went Corvette hunting. Loads of fun!!!!! He He He

Thanks for the help Rob. I have just about exhausted most "normal" sources, but still scrounging around toys, craft stores etc... Would love to post some pics but, no camera and wouldn't know how to do it anyhow. Hopefully, when I get done, I'll borrow a camera and get someone to help me get them on line.
-
No camera. But hen I get it done, I'll try to borrow one and figure out how to send some pics. Will be kind of fun to show the results of my first attempt under you folks' guidance.
-
Hey Miguel. Thanks for the response, and again, thanks to all of you for your help. A couple of questions. Will white glue work on resin figures? Where can I find the the MiniHold? And, how do you think double back scotch tape might work?
-
Per my previous posts, I have a "semi diorama" used car lot in progress and want to add details. Figures, lamp posts, banners, office equipment, decals, etc... I would prefere pre painted, (my mini painting skills stink), but if I have to paint, so be it. I have found a bunch of figures, tools, and such for garages but not much for my needs. In viewing your work, I see many of the things that I would like to use, mainly figures. Do you have any recommendations for sources that you have used in the past with good results?
