Who Did I Meet At Nnlwest?
m408 replied to Aaronw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't remember anyone getting in my way at all, especially kids. (loved to see them getting excited about some of the cars). I'm not really handicaped in the way that I need a full time chair, but I do have a spinal and hip condition that doesn't allow me to stand for more than a few minutes at a time and can't walk further than about 30 yards without a break, so thanks to the convention center staff, I was able to attend and get around. Anyhow, it was great to see so many kids there having a good time. I think that it would be great to have a set up where builders could sit behind tables displaying their builds. There were so many fantastic builders, whose work I have seen here, that I wanted to meet, complement them on their work, and of course, "brain pic" a little. Well, maybe next time. Who knows, maybe by then I will have something worth bringing. -

I was the guy in the red jacket riding the electric scooter. Spotted several tables with groups of models built by the same person, but couldn't find anyone hanging around "guarding" them. That might have been a hint. -

Speaking of printing. I would like to make a portable album of my car model photos. I have an hp3550 printer. Any recommendations as to what type paper to use? And would it be available from places like staples? Or do I need to get it from a camera house? Also, I would like to have 3 or 4 pictures of the same car, but different details in each shot, per page. Special software needed? If so what do you recommend. I am using windows xp and am not very pc literate. -

Thanks Howard, I'm having a ball messing with this thing. Got a mini tripod, built a cheap photo box and am experimenting with different bulbs etc. Trying different pixel sizes but can't really see much difference between them. I'm just using plain old AAs. Cheap and easy to find. Anyhow, nice break from trying to detail an interior. -

Great tips, but right now I'm just trying to get some "postable" photos. Way far from Fstops and super lighting tricks. Eventually I'll get into that stuff. -

Hi Aaronw, Why resize? I tried using various recording pixel values and can't see much difference. About the same picture quality, upload time to my PC, and upload time to photobucket. Just to save space on the camera memory card? -

Hey Raul, You, along with Steve, (local to my area),and Brenden from up north, along with Gregg, were folks that I wanted to meet and thank for the help. I was also hoping that some of the larger after market folks would be there, I had a pretty big shopping list. But, they weren't. I hate to sound critical, but was really disappointed. Seemed more like a flea market with people trying to unload stuff. Sure, some very nice builds, and a bunch of pretty good ones, (way better than mine), which I enjoyed seeing, but I think that I will pass on next years show. Maybe I'll try one of the big National shows in the future. -

Didn't get to meet anyone. Was hoping to meet some of the guys who have helped me on these forums, especially locals. Didn't feel real comfortable going up to someone and asking who they were. It would have been nice if name tags were used. I know, maybe sounds silly, but I really wanted to thank some folks in person and also pick up some tips that would be too time consuming for a forum topic. -

Got a mini tripod at Target for under $20. Thanks all for the help. -

Nope. For that you have to use a very light coat of "nutsy 100" only sticks to nuts and bolt heads. -
I just got a Canon PowerShot A460. Trying to go through the user guide is giving me a headache. "function menu", "exposure compensations", "ISO speeds", etc.... Can anyone just walk me through how to set up and get postable photos? Don't need magazine grade or when it is high tide vs. the phase of the moon, just some decent photos.

Most seem to be decals or photocopies. I have tried to find sources for weeks, and can't get a clue. Not many responses. Seems that it would be a great after market item.

Ping Pong Ball Build Off
m408 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Aha!!!! How about a Mars rover with the balls as wheels? Sheesh, if only I had the skills. Let see, ping pong balls are about 1 & 1/4 dia. Seems to scale out to Super Donk size. O.K. guys, I can't do it but I know that you can. -
Heat Shrink Tube Hoses And Couplers.

Anybody tried black jacketed wire? Comes in as many gauges as you might need, from solid 10, 12, 14, etc... to stranded 24, 22, to little bity stuff. I think that the advantage might be that you could form the hose needed, strip about a 1/16 off of each end, drill an appropriate size anchor hole, CA and install. (I know that the hoses from sprues NEVER fit). -
Hey Gregg, Awhile back I posted that my "used to be" 1:1 was a 33 chevy, that had been sold and moved to the big island. You wanted a pic. Well, I only had a wall photo of it left. Gave all trophys and stuf to the new owner. Anyhow, got a camera, kind of learned how to use it. With a lot of help from forums, I think that I can now go from photo to PC to posting. Again, it is a photo of a photo. Let me know if you have seen it around. About a month after I sold it, the new owner sent me a photo from a local paper where it had been featured in a local car show. But then, that was a few years ago.

Looks like a fun project. Wish that there was a local club here.

I build and paint in the second bedroom of my two bedroom townhouse. This also a den/office. I had been using a section of the closet as a "spray booth". I know, not very safe with the fumes etc.. I have pulled out the carpet, which had various shades of paint fogged on to it from over spray, and replaced it with a nice laminate floor. Now, to the point. I am ready to invest in a spray booth. It will be set on a table with roller feet so that I can move it next to a window and vent it for exhaust when in use. Question..Do the commercial booths have sufficient exhaust draw to keep over spray off of my new floor?

Not at all a diorama expert Jon, but isn't that pretty just large for pictures of models? I see a lot of guys just using a 12"x12" garage or such for model photos. Of course you may want to go my route. I was running out of space for models and utilized an old wine storage spot in my living room to build a "used car lot". It is listed here under "my first diorama". This not only allows me space to display models, and rotate them through at my convenience, but a platform for individual photos if I choose. Hope this has been some help.

Photo Posting Help, One Last Time
m408 replied to m408's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Steve, but here is the problem. I had taken some pictures of a diorama that I did. Loaded from the camera to "my pictures". Moved to photobucket using "browse" in photobucket, and "select" on the photos. Worked just fine. I have just loaded some new photos from the camera to the PC. When I go to "my photos" they are there and I can view them. However, when trying to load them to photobucket, using the same procedure, it doesn't work. I go to my photobucket account and it shows the pictures that I have loaded, along with the "browse" option. When I select "browse" and go back to my pictures, the ones that I want to transfer do not appear, only the ones that were there prior to my latest upload from the camera. Any ideas? -

O.K. gang, you got me so that I could load images onto MCM from photo bucket, but...... I can't remember how I got the photos from my PC to photo bucket. I can upload the pics from my camera to "my pictures" on my PC, but when I go to "select" to upload to photobucket, I can't select from "my pictures". Only pics available are ones that I have already transfered. Where am I messing up? Photobucket help is no help at all. -
Just awesome. How the heck do you do such fine detaling?
