  1. It was great fun Mike. Very different methods from car building. Everyone should do at least one. Will give you a greater appreciation for some of the dioramas posted here.
  2. Nope, bikini top, but it sure got "Irv's" attention.
  3. Now that Sarge has helped me how to post pics, I thought that I would go into the build details. I know to most of you this will be old hat, but there may be some out there who have had my same situation and do not know how to proceed. Again, this from a newbie with a lot of help. The height of the area was way to big so I made a base to raise it out of poster board. Nothing fancy, just some hunks about 6" high held in place with masking tape. I knew that the surface would be exposed to morning sun so I opptied for a gray base to fade over time. The far background buildings are HO scale from an on line railroad model source. The side buildings are G scale, a little larger, to try to give some depth to the overall scene, same source. The fence is squared off popsickle sticks trimmed and stained.., and secured to the walls with 1/8 thick double back tape, again to add a little depth. Figures are held in place by "pinning" them. A short pin inserted into feet and about 1/8" into the surface. They can be moved without much obvious damage. Figures are available from a bunch of places, painted or not. Cat, dog, and pidgins, along with the scale models in the office, are from the LHS. This has been a fun build. New thing to me, and allows me to "mix and match" my models in the used car lot at will. I hope that this will inspire others to find a place for their "extra" builds so that their friends and family can view and enjoy them.

    Car lot

Sorry guys, got the used car lot done without the managers car. Pics in the diorama section. However, since all cars are movable, I could still add some obnoxious ride if I could find and build one.

    Shell Car

If I put my ear next to the fender, can I hear the ocean? Do you have any leftover pills?
  6. Thanks my friend. You showed me how to get the pics up.
  7. Hooooooray!!!!! It did work. Next step, making pictures of my builds look better than they really are.
  8. I'm a retired grandfather. Spent most of my life in the semi-conducter industry, both in chip manufacturing and equipment design. Haven't worn a wrist watch in 10 years and love it.
  9. Tried to post this a few minutes ago. Didn't seem to work, so if this comes up as a duplicate, please forgive me. Some time ago, I posted that I was running out of room on my shelves for my models. I had an area in my living room that was used for wine storage. Got rid of the wine and made it into "Fast Eddy's used car lot". With a whole lot of help, tips, and ideas from you all, it got done. Got a camera, kind of learned how to use it, and with some more help, got some pics posted, I think. Still don't know how to do individual captions or comments, so will try to post them all. I'm sure that you can figure them out. Comments will be appreciated, good or bad, since I am a real newbie at this. Thanks again for all the help.
  10. Thanks all. Especially our USMCs who not only protect us, but help us vet USAF folks wend our way through the internet.
  11. O.K. one last time. ######!!!! I think it worked!!!!!
  12. First build? Sheeesh, looks better than what I do now. Looking forward to your future work.
  13. Any rattle can urethanes available? Will it work over enamels and laquers?
  14. I wanted to attend the Santa Clara show but was afraid that I couldn't because of my back and hip problems. No, not completly disabled, but am unable to walk more than about 100 feet at a time, and have trouble standing for more than a few minutes. Anyhow, I contacted Augie.Reyes@santaclara.org (director of events services) and was able to arrange for the use of a "scooter" that day, free of charge. Just thought that I would pass this on in case anyone else has the same kind of concerns.
  15. My thoughts about a local club were purely selfish. I got back into building about a year ago after a 40 years absence and am way behind the curve. It is a big help for me to ask for tips on this forum and have gotten great responses, but it would sure be nice to be able to talk, in detail, one on one with some of you guys. Especially on a regular basis.
  16. Hey Bob, chin up. I was diagnosed with cancer on one of my vocal cords, from smoking, over three years ago. I opted for radiation treatment as opposed to surgery. The surgery could have left me literally speachless. Have been cancer free ever since, so it can be beat. I'll be pulling for you. milt
  17. ACE hardware in my area, but most hardware stores will carry it. Look in the floor cleaning section.
  18. Hey Brian, Yep, there was a flyer about the SVSM at my LHS, but I think that they met in Morgan Hill. Way to far to drive at night at my age. Going to make it to NNL. Hopefully meet some of the guys. They have been very helpfull in getting me back into this after 40 years.
  19. I notice that there are a bunch, well at least a few, great builders in the San Jose area. Have you guys ever thought about forming a club? I'm sure that there are a bunch of novice builders, like myself, that would be glad to learn from the masters.
  20. I know that there are a bunch of clear coat materials and systems available, but would like some expert advice. Your recommendations for lacquer vs. enamel? Brand preference?
  21. Ive had good results with "quick cure" 5 epoxy. Two part squize bottles. Easy to control, and not very smelly. You can regulate the "5 minute" cure time by adjusting the amount of hardener.
  22. I have read ever answer to "how to post photos" that I can find and am still at a lose. Don't care about fokti or anything else, just photobucket. Can anyone out there lead me step by step on how to post photos with comments? You know... 1- Turn on PC 2- Get on line 3- Go to my photobucket account Yep, I'm that computer dumb
  23. Bill, you only have two years to work it out. By then either a hydrogen powered custom or an electric pro stock might be appropriate.
  24. Many thanks for the pics. I was looking forward to it, but mother nature threw a cloud layer in the way.
