O.K. gang, Got a great place picked out. Pizza/pasta place located on Winchester Blvd , in Campbell, "Luigi's, in the Safeway shopping center across from St. Lucys church. Talked to the owner. He has a set aside area available which can handle up to 40 people. 5 minutes from D&J hobby and 10 minutes from Hobby Town on Blossem Hill Rd. A 2:00 PM time would give out of towners plenty of time to get here, grab some kits, before or after, have some great food, BS a while, and still get home at a reasonable hour. You guys that have to travel, pick a date, let me know, and I'll take care of the rest. Still looking for some other "newbies" to take advantage of this chance to meet the pros.

Aftermarket Parts Suppliers?
m408 replied to Rudy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Try www.socalcarculture.com/modelcarlinks A whole lot of after market stuff. -
Thanks Aaron, Getting the "advanced" user guide out right now. It has a bunch of good stuff that I'm going to try. Also going to upgrade my free photobucket account to allow for larger pixel counts. Thanks again for the help.

After getting the box open and parts sorted out, I usually start by saying "can I really build this?"

Thanks for the kind words guys. I had been out of model building for 40 years. Xmas before last, one of my grand daughters got me a couple of kits, and thus it began. The vette was about the third of my new building life. First one was a 31 Ford sedan. Tube glue and all brush painted, not even rattle can. I still have it and when I get down on my skills, or lack of the same, I look at it, and feel a little better.

Hi Ismael, Using a tripod so I might be able to use a lower ISO setting. No manual f-stop. I'm using the free photobucket account and that limits my upload size to 640x480. I guess I could upgrade but not sure that it would help. This is my first digital camera and have only had it a few weeks. I'll keep messing with it. Thanks for the help.

WOW!!! Hard to figure out which one I would want, if I had a choice.

Better have a really BIG V8 in it if you walk to the back. I agree with Cal, little bit more extended frame would be nice.
-
Great start Tony. Did my first diorama, "used car lot", with a lot of help from the folks on this forum. They will give you all the help and support that you need. Don't be afraid to ask. I wasn't.

Great look. A thought...how about the finish line painted in with the flagman in his stand waving the checkerd?

Camera is a Canon PowerShot A460. Settings right now are: ISO400, 640x480 pixels, macro, flash off. Gotta be just some dumb thing that I'm doing. Was using "soft white" bulbs before and thought that the halogen ones would help. Wrong?

Thanks Raul, I'm trying, but still have a long way to go.

WOW!!! Great responses from some terrific builders here. Am I the only "rookie" that wants to spend some time face to face with these guys? I can't believe it. Again guys, work out day and time that works best for you, I'll handle the pizza/pasta/adult beverages. Just let me know. I'm gonna feel like a kid in a candy shop. :D

I agree Marcos. Lots of real talent and very willing to share, but, it would be nice to be able to ask "how the heck did you do that? what did you use?" in a one on one situation.

Go to the "under glass" section. Rides to blow your mind.

Air Brushing
m408 replied to Semi Trailer Mechanic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
O.K. Scott, now you have me worried. My kids got me a nice Paasche air brush set and a small compresor for Xmas. I got a regulator and moisture trap for it, but I'm still afraid to try it. I just know that I will mess it up. I even got some food coloring to experiment with. I know, not paint, but I figured that I could at least figure out how the air brush worked with it and it would be easy to clean. I'm going to watch, with great interest, how you make out. Everyone says that air brushing is the way to go, but still unknown territory to me. -
Nothing trick. No detail. Just what was in the box. Didn't even know about clear coating when I built it. Part of my used car lot diorama, so I guess I can blame the dust on that. Forgive the lousy photos, still trying to figure out lighting. I know not as nice as the rest of the builds here, but thought that I would show some stuff anyhow.

Hey Gregg, I have a home made light box. About 14"x14". 12" opening on both sides and top covered with white tissue paper. Inside is grey foam board with a grey poster board base. Using 60w halogen bulbs in 5.5" workshop clamp lights as side lighting. Everything seems to come out screwie. Any tips for lighting? Attached are various shots using same camera settings for all.

There is a Hobby Town in San Jose on Blossom Hill Road. I had to go there to get some Tamiya pearl white paint for a 53 Corvette that I am doing. D&J Hobby had minimal paint choices and nothing but excuses about late suppliers etc...Hobby Town seemed to have a decent selection of models, some after market items, and a lot of air brush supplies. Seemed to have a pretty good paint inventory as well, both rattle can and air brush.I guess Hobby Town will become my new LHS.

Need Help Withe Future Floor Polish
m408 replied to stanleymsn's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Dries pretty quick. Just figure that if you used it on a floor, when could you walk on it? -
Awesome job Cal. Sure wish that I could build something that "not perfect".
-
Thanks Jonathan, Having never done a diorama before, it was great fun. Had a whole lot of help rfom guys on this forum. How to do this, where to find that etc... The cars look better in the pics than they really are. Not very skilled, but have fun building and that's what a hobby should be about. Main thing about the "car lot", is that I can rotate new cars as they get finished.

Here they are Mark, at least I hope. Hope that it worked. Comments appreciated, my first try at a diorama.
