You guys are right. I was bitchen about bitchen. For that, I apologize.

Folks, when I found this forum, I was delighted. I had been out of model car building for 40 years and thought that this would be a place to "get with it" again. I was both right and wrong. I have received many tips, tricks, and ideas from a bunch of you, for which I am grateful. Your support has enabled me to re start my attempt at a fine hobby. I come here to view some great works and ask for tips and ideas to further my skills. However, all of this BS about "low rider old guys vs. young guys", what is a "show" vs. a "contest", Is Nnl a fraud? has me completed turned off. Lets get back to building, not bitching.

A friend of mine used Dupli-Color chrome paint to re-finish the legs of a bar stool and thought that it worked well. Anybody tried it on a model car?

Being an old retired guy, I could spend all day either on this board or building, but I don't. Xmas before last one of my grand kids gave me a model A kit. I hadn't touched a model in 40 years. Went to the local hobby shop to pick up some tube glue and brush paint. Noticed Model Car Magazine, looked through it, picked up a copy, came home and subscribed. Found the forum and signed up. The help, advice, tips, and general attitudes of members here have given me a renewed interest in building again, but not a compelling one. I log on each morning while listening to sports talk radio. I may post a question or just look at what's being built or completed. I may or may not comment or answer a question. I may or may not work on my current project. I agree. It is a hobby. Something to do in ones spare time that is enjoyably. The fact that when you are done, you have something in your hands that is, hopefully a little bit nicer than the last one is a bonus. I will never reach the level of skills that I see here on a regular basis, but I don't care. Again, it is a hobby.

When Did "nnl" Events Become Contests?
m408 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Isn't the practice of magazines "selecting" certain models to be professionally photographed a contest of sorts? -
Gregg, Here are some thoughts from a frequent poster. I use the tips and tricks section to ask for help. I usually get the help or answer within a few days. Maybe drop the subject post after either a given number of responses or a fixed time, like 10 days. The under glass section is great, but viewing and/or commenting need be done only once. Again, maybe a fixed time. Works in process could be dropped when the project is completed and appears "under glass". I'm sure that the same type of things could be used on the other subjects. Might reduce the amount of data the server has to handle. Milt

Thanks Harry, I have been using DupliColor spray cans with good results, but have not found a source that has a large selection of colors. My kids got me an air brush set up for Xmas and I'm trying to learn how to use it. I know that most auto stores carry a large variety of touch up bottles, therefore the question.

There's one in the "under glass" section.

Thanks guys, If there is anything that I am worse at than BMF, it's air brushing. My kids got me a paasche set for Xmas and I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I checked my BMF sheets and they are pretty bad. Had no idea what to look for when I bought them. I've got a couple of cars from when I first got back into building that are real "bombs". I'll use the bad sheets on them to practice.

A few LHSs close to Luigi's, that attendees might want to check out, before, during, or after. Distances are from Luigi's. You can "Google" map them from home or Luigi's. D&J Hobby & Craft 96 N. San Tomas Aquino Road Campbell, Ca. 95008 1.6 miles Relocated model car section, now next to trains, but they seem to be trying to upgrade their stock. Hobby Town USA 638 Blossom Hill Road Los Gatos, Ca. 95032 3.1 miles Not a big selection of model cars, but a lot of accessories available from scratch building to air brushing. Slot Cars & Hobbies 14910 Camden Ave. (in Camden Plaza) San Jose Ca. 95124 1.6 miles Didn't get a chance to check out the model car selection, but a huge store. I think that this is San Antonio Hobbies relocated. , but not sure. Didn't get the owners name, but he seemed to know most of you guys.

O.K. gang. I previously posted a thread on "how to BMF". After trying a bunch of suggested ways, I have discovered that I just plain suck at doing this. Sure I'll keep trying but, I hear that AlcladII is "chrome in a bottle". Being a real novice at air brushing, should I even bother trying this? If so, tips, thinning, cleaning, air pressures, etc. I'm not trying to build show quality cars, just trying to upgrade chrome trim from Testors silver applied with a brush.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I'll believe it when I see it.

Lookin sweet Kevin. Kick some butt.

No wacky women going to be at the 20th get together. Just a few girls from the local Hooters, looking for some "modeling" tips. Yeh, right, late April fool.

Thanks Ollie, great help on the dash board. Another thing that I struggle with is multi color interior trim. Door panels etc... seems like the same procedure would work for that. I'm thinking that it might work for molded in fire wall details as well. Paint wiring, etc.. then mask and shoot color. Anyone tried it for that? In fact, maybe molded in chassis details, brackets etc... Oh Oh there goes my imagination.
-
In my ongoing attempt to do some decent detailing, I'm always looking for masking help. My latest purchase is "Mask-it EASY" from Micro-Mark. Anyone have experiance with this product? If so, tips?

None of the above. 3378 gph

Hi Brenden, Just PMd directions. Any of your friends attending the show would be more than welcome if you want to pass the word.

Alll I can say is WOW. If only I could do that.

Kidnap him Raul. Otherwise you will have to eat all of his pizza. Hummm... maybe not the best incentive.

I know that it is a long haul for you Aaron, but I hope that you can make it.
