WOW Clay, really nice. What did you use to paint the drive train and exhaust system?

I've got a kind of unique work area. It is in a second bedroom of a townhouse. Also used as a den/office. My desk, PC, etc.. is 29" high. I have added a 6' work table against one wall, also 29" high. Just put together a 30" high roll around kitchen cart to support my newly ordered paint booth, which will be stored in the closet when not in use. I use a standard 5 leg office chair on rollers. Lets me slide around at will on my laminate floor. Just a thought, get a lumbar back support for your chair, whatever type that you choose. Lets you spend a lot of time in the chair without the "whoops" when you stand up.

Just put two coats of Future on a metal flake painted body. Would like a little better shine. What do you guys recommend? And, will it really make that much of a difference?

Hey Will, If you have the where with all, do as Cal says. Very pro type solution. Otherwise, here's what I do. 1- Use a good "sprue cutter". Made to trim real close to the tree. Local hobby or craft shop should have them. If not, "google" Xuron company. They make a good one. 2- Touch up cut section with KRYLON silver leafing pen. Any craft shop will have them. Again, not nearly as good a job as Cal's suggestion, but works for a rookie like me.

Your Name In The Signature Please
m408 replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gregg. Come on now "brain farting"? Clean it up will you? There is a guy who monitors this site that frowns on that type of language! -
nice job, Gregg, but you missed me. However, you destroyed my 1:120 scale model of a stretch limo with working disco ball. Hope your happy.

Welcome Florian, You will find the folks here very willing to help and share their tips, hints, ideas, and most of all, knowledge. Where abouts in cali are you from? The reason that I ask is,that, some of the best builders in the norcal area are getting together sometime in April for a lunch/BS session. I'm not one of them, but I'm attending to do some brain picking. Will be in the San Jose area. If you are close and interested, check out the thread in the general section.

How about some Re-Introductions?
m408 replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
m408 aka Milt Meyer. 75 year old father of two, grandfather of three. Was into model car building back in the early 60s. No air brushes, BMF, PE parts, pre-wired distributers, etc... Just Testors tube glue and brushed paint. I actually won a model car show once because my Bantem drag car had spark plugs made out of painted round tooth picks with ignition wires of heavy thread soaked in glue. Anyhow, what with family raising, working, etc... I gave the hobby up. A year ago last XMAS, my youngest son remembered that I had built model cars in the past and had my two youngest grand daughters give me a couple of kits. WOW!!! Talk about your glue bomb disasters. Same old build style. Tube glue and brushed paint. Then I happened on MCM. Subscribed, and joined the forum. Have met a whole lot of great folks on line who are willing to offer tips, hints, and ideas. I have always enjoyed working with my hands. Model car building allows me to do that. I can spend my spare time doing something that I enjoy and at the end, see physical evidence of my labor. Show quality? Not a chance, but each one gets just a little bit better. -
Hey guy, Can't help you with the spray booth. Just ordered one from Bob Pace, tired of painting in my closet. But, I do have a great design that I stole on line for a photo light box. Cheap and works well. Would be glad to share it with you. Milt

Hey Brian, If we can get some interest and a date/time, I'm going to try to make up a few flyers to distribute to LHSs. Now that I have your friends address, I'll try to get one to him. No promises, I'm puter bad, but working on it.

I Might Be In For A Rude Awakening
m408 replied to ballpoteau's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was in a car accident when I was 16, 59 years ago. Seemed to recover for several years. About 10 years ago it started going downhill. No more golf, constant pain, and barely able to get up and down stairs. $20,000.00 operation didn't help. Bottom line, if you want to lift 500 lbs, do it one 16oz can at a time. I thought that I was superman when I was young also. Guess what? Not. Protect your back. Your gonna need it for a long time. -
Wheels came with the kit, so I used them. To cheap to buy any fancy after market stuff.

Not sure that I understand the whole "donk" thing. I'm all for anything that folks enjoy but... What is the purpose? Not trying to be a wise guy, just wondering. I have yet to see anything like this in a 1:1. Do they exist?

Didn't get it yet, but ordered a paint booth from Bob Pace. Just got tired of using a closet in my den. Also got a roll around cart from Target to support the booth and store paints. Next step, learn to use the air brush kit that my kids got me for my "B" day.

I ordered the mid line, "minimini". Should be here within a week. I've got kind of a unique situation. My "workshop" is in a second bedroom in my town house, new laminate floor etc... I've got my desk, PC, bookshelves etc.. plus a 7' work bench for building. Also a full width closet. Anyhow to get to the point, I ordered the "minimini" which is 24x18x18. I found a kitchen cart at Target which is 24x18x34" high. Has a slide out drawer, and an adjustable shelve behind two doors. Seems perfect. I can install my air brush compressor on the bottom shelve, rattle cans on the other shelf, and air brush stuff in the drawer, and when not in use, store it in the closet. Now I'm gonna have to learn to paint.

From the used car lot diorama. First attempt at adding some detail.

Nice even cut. Shows a lot of skill, But not a heck of a lot of sense Good thing that God made some women who would marry Marines, otherwise the Gunny would have had to handle it.

Model A Frame, '32 Frame? Need Some Help
m408 replied to FORDSVTPARTS's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Don't know about models, but would assume that they are proportional to 1:1s. Real life "A" frames were pretty spindly and light weight. The 32 frames were quite a bit beefer to support the added weight of the V8. Much more adaptable to modifications. -
Just got off of the phone with Bob Pace. Ordered the Peace Keeper minimini. Sheeesh, now I guess I'm going to have to learn how to use the paasche air brush set that my kids got me for my "B" day.

Thanks Marc. Gonnna check out the site, then give give Bob a call.

Hi Mike, thanks for the input. Looks like you have a similar situation. Work shop in a living area with a floor that needs to be protected. I see the exhaust going towards the floor and a fan next to the window. Can you show or explain the whole set up? I also understand that Pace booths will accept standard pleated filters. ?

Thanks all for the help. I just figured out how to use the WB custom on my camera, same light box, changed the bulbs to "standard" lamp type, and shot on macro with no flash. I know, not great but good enough to post, (I think). Here is a sample. Let me know what you think. Any hints on how to enhance will be appreciated. Just remember, PC dumb, and my first digital camera.

O.K.guys. I have gotten the message. I'm gonna quit using a closet in my den for a spray booth. Gonna use my tax rebate for a good cause. PAINT BOOTH !!! Now heres the deal. I do my building in a second bedroom/den in my townhouse. I have a place to store the booth and supplies on a roll around stand in a closet. My plan is to move the cart/booth out of storage when I want to paint and move it next to a window to exhaust. No problem hooking up dryer hose etc... but, I have just installed new hardwood floor in the den/work shop and don't want to mess it up with over spray. Your best recommendations as to booth manufacturer and model. My main concern is exhaust draw capabilities, and of course cost. All recommendations will be appreciated.

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
m408 replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well, so much for "truth in advertising". Manufacture recommended soak time is 20 minutes. -
Just great Tom. Can't you just picture cruising to the drive in on Saturday night in it?
