Big Tire Ford Thunderbolt Build Started
Glen Powers replied to bykr's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Ouch! Well Tim I guess it's true that no good deed goes unpunished. Chalk this up to experience I suppose. Hope there won't be anymore surprises. Glen -
Tom, that's a nice clean build right there. Glen Powers

Big Tire Ford Thunderbolt Build Started

Thanks Tim. Southern Motorsports Hobbies is another source for tubbed chassis, they do not have as many to choose from but they do come with the rear suspension (link is below). I have not used them personally but will most likely try one on a future build. I have a bunch of the Revell pro street Chevelle kits and am torn between back halfing a kit chassis or save the time and effort and go with one of the resin offerings. http://stores.smhracing.com/smh-resins/ Glen -

Tim, I checked out his ebay site. Looks like he has a nice variety of chassis there. Noticed none seem to come with rear suspension but a few had a sellers note to use the Revell 67 Chevelle Pro Street parts. Is that what you used, and did you need to modify it? Thanks, Glen -
I have the Super Mini Plus model with the light built in and separate fan and light switches. It's a high quality, rugged product for sure. I primarily airbrush Tamiya lacquers and it removes all traces of paint fumes. I 'm more than satisfied with this unit and feel it's worth the money. Glen Powers

Sounds like a great project. I'm also a big stock/super stock fan. As far as the intake goes your thinking of going with the sheet metal type would be correct (like the Hemi cars). You would also need to use the original carbs for the year, model, and engine. Where did you get the resin tubbed chassis, and are you happy with the quality? Also the source for the wheels? Good luck with your build. Glen Powers -
The Drag Pak is back!
Glen Powers replied to Hotrod 97's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good news indeed. All of the factory stock cars are very popular (Cobra Jet, COPO, and Drag Pak) especially with younger fans. Hopefully one of the mfg's would consider adding the extra parts needed to turn their existing kits into versions of these cars. Glen Powers -
Race Car Seat Belts / Harness?
Glen Powers replied to Jonathan's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
IMHO the 5 point harness from Pro Tech model parts is fairly easy to assemble and looks realistic. Check it out. Glen -
Scale Motorsport decals
Glen Powers replied to RichCostello's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Rich the ones I've used had the pattern printed on clear decal film. Yes they do go on like any other decal. Check the part number you have at the Scale Motorsports web site and look at the "details" for that sheet. That should clear it all up, good luck. -
Revell 62 Impala question
Glen Powers replied to Glen Powers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
David, thanks for the reply. I use the rear bumper to position the chassis front to rear and glued at the rocker panels and just ahead of the front wheel opening. It worked just fine but I would have felt better if there was a molded in locating point. Glen -
It seems to me that the instructions are a little vague about the position of the chassis/interior to the body. There are no positive location points molded to either so I wondered what other builders might have done. Also where you found the best places to glue the chassis to the body? I'm thinking the rocker panels and at the front fenders but would be grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance, Glen

Heading to Quebec City for vacation and was wondering if there are any hobby shops worth checking out. Thanks, Glen

No problem, plenty of that on hand. Thanks to all who responded. Glen -
I was wondering what the consensus is on a thinner for airbrushing decanted Plastikote primer? Thanks in advance. Glen

Thanks to all for the welcome and Charlie for your kind words. Glen -
I will soon be ordering a GREX TG and was wondering what size nozzle you're using especially with the fan-tip. Also are you happy with it or if you had it to do over would you go to a different size. Thanks

Hello, I'm mainly interested in sportsman class drag cars, primarily stock & super stock (even though I take forever to finish one). I've been visiting this forum for a while and thought it was time to sign up. Thanks, Glen Powers
