best spray Paint for high humidity.
Robert81 replied to Robert81's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hey Mike, good to meet you. I get My Dupli color spray paint from Crappy Tire as well, I use the small "touch up" cans and the primer. If it was not for Crappy Tire I would have no finished builds, I hate testors, I couldn't get a good paint job to save my life. My wife would kill me if I put a model in the oven. I think I will try the heat lamp, I will try a rat rod or two, to test how well it works. -
best spray Paint for high humidity.
Robert81 replied to Robert81's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thanks for the suggestions. I use Dupli-color almost exclusively. It has been suggested that I use a heat lamp to "bake" the paint after spraying, to help reduce the amount of "blushing" that happens. -
I need some recommendations for a paint type and brand that will work well in high humidity. In my area the humidity gets really high, and stays there all winter. I'm talking in the high 80% range. I don't have an airbrush or paint booth and I need to be able to get it at an average auto parts store. Please help, I don't want to stop finishing Models over the winter.

Thank you, guys for the comments. Ed, I'm not familiar with how vintage tow trucks where equipped. But I'm sure they never looked like this. Harry, are not most models "styling exercises"? I'm glad you like it. I've been a hotrodder at heart since I discovered Hotwheels. Ledsled, the baby Hemi doesn't hurt. I'm really glad you like it. Again, thank you for the comments.

This is Lindberg's 34 ford pick up. I shortened the flat deck, to be more in proportion with the rest of the build. I filed the bottom of the tow boom to decrease the angle it was at. I built the duallie rear tires by using two different wheel backs and a deep steel rim. The front rims are steelies from amt's 51 Belair. The hub caps are 50 ford pick up stockers. The rear axle is box stock with a model A axle with the spring removed up front. Added a parts box Hemi. The carbs and scoops are from the 56 Ford Vicky, and the exhaust manifolds and valve covers are from amt's model A roadster. I cut and rebent the tail pipes from amt's 57 300 c. The stacks are in the 34 Ford truck kit. The top was chopped and the body channeled. I added a recessed sheet styrene firewall. On to the pics. I hope you enjoy. Comments welcome, good or bad.

"Happy Halloween!"...

You are exactly right. as a father of two, I just don't feel safe letting my kids take candy from strange people, but try to tell them that. I still take them out, but I go through every piece they get, and I will not let them go out with out adult supervision. There are just to many messed up people out there that I would not trust as far as I can throw them. Bottom line it just is not safe to go trick or treating anymore. :( I do remember going out, trick or treating and having lots of fun doing it. -
Nothing wrong with the "blue Flame" six. It looks good.

Clay, you have out done yourself. I love the "sidewinder" HEMI. I want to say Welcome.

Your hearse is pretty sweet.

Thanks everyone. I think it turned out rather well. Kind of Christine on steroids. I started with the Custom version. It is the kit engine, but I added the supercharger, timing chain cover and belt front the Red Ram Hemi in kit AMT's 29 modal A roadster kit, the scoop is from AMT's Switchers 25 t rod. I'm a hot rodder at heart so I couldn't leave a Hemi unblown. The wire Wheels are from Revell's Jaguar E-type. The exhaust is the side pipes from AMT's 32 Ford 5 window. I shaved the side trim and door handles, too. Here is a link to the build tread. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15246

Looks great, My daughter would love it. I have a couple Revell choppers, but I have not done anything with them.

This is a quick build. My first scallop job. Kind of a mild hot rod custom. I hope you like it.

looking good, Todd. -
this is as far as I can get tonight. the engine is ready and looking beautiful. the chassis and interior are now finished. It'll be done tomorrow.
-
I got the body in the first colour, the chassis and interior painted. got the chassis assembled and working on assembling the interior. What do you think should I leave it all red, or red with black scallops?
-
Well, here is my first Update. I got the wheels done, and the blower on the engine. The trim and handles have been shaved. On to the pics. Next up Paint.

Here we go again. I'm building a 57 Chrysler 300c, The custom version, nice kit. Here is my start. These are the extras, I'm adding to the kit. the Wire Wheels are from Revell's Jaguar E-type, the blower is from AMT's 29 model A roadster, and the scoop is from AMT's Switchers T-Rod. More progress soon.

Very nice. The wide whites, and low stance make this a shoe-in for a mild Kustom.

testors spray enamel, now what!?
Robert81 replied to pussiwillow's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I agree with Harry, Never use Testors spray cans. I hated painting because of it, and I have 50 unfinished projects to prove it. A few months ago a friend of recommended Dupli-Color Lacquer. I fell in love with them. Go to your local auto parts retailer and take a look. Dupli-Color makes a line called "Metal Speck". They come in a big can and cost me 8 bucks Canadian. Here is what the red looks like over Grey primer. I did not use a clear coat on this one. They dry in about 4 hours and I had the kit primed and painted in about 8 hours. -
I'm 27, building since I was ten. My wife is very supportive, even if i get bitched at from time to time for buying a new kit when I have five or six boxes of unfinished builds in the basement.

This looks very interesting. I'll be watching.

######, I wish you could cast that guy in resin. I would buy at least two. My mind is filled with memories of my youth. Every time I check this build gets better.
