Hello all! Rdean58 here
Gray Smith replied to RDean58's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Robert, good to see you here, I've always liked your builds, but those kind of builds don't get attention on the hhmb, I stopped posting alot of my builds there, because no one ever seemed interested in them, plus alot of the people left. Glad you came, even though i'm still a bit of a lurker here, I like this place alot better. Now get to posting! Gray -
great job!, but of course I like all nissan s-chassis' so consider me slighlty biased.....but still great job! Gray

Hey folks, This is officially my first "under glass" post....coool. These 2 have been done for a while, and now I've finally gotten around to taking some good pics of them with my new camera. The Sileighty is box stock, with Tamiya Mica Blue paint on it. The red one is my interpretation of a daily driven 240sx with the front end swap, suspension, wheels, and an exhaust....not necessarily a drifter, but a good handling car. Seats are Tamiya r33 units from an old built up of mine, wheels are Fujimi Advan Onis, the exhaust is scratched up from aluminum tubing, and the suspension was of course lowered(what a pain, I lowered it the right way, only to have it mess up on me during final assembly thanks to an ill fitting chassis, so the tires are just superglued to the chassis). Paint is Tamiya Italian Red in many coats, with many coats of clear and lots of polishing(and it ended up getting messed up during final assembly..this is a 2 footer(20 footer in full scale???) and last night I pulled it off the shelf and did some panel lines, and added a photo-reduced license plate that used to be on my full size 240 to finish 'er up. Hope you guys like em, comments and critiques welcome

Ok guys, time for an update, got the chassis painted and the wheel mounting and ride height sorted out. I'm using a set of brakes from the tamiya nismo z-tune part set, and I had to narrow the 360 modena tires and well as use a smaller lip on the back to fit those meats in the wheel wells, but I think it should look pretty good. Motor is mostly done, all i'm doing is the ignition wire, since if I try to add more detail, it will just end up looking worse, I'm still not sure what i'm doing with the induction system though. Paint has been decided on now, Silver with a red interior. I've ordered some emblems, the studio27 pe set, and some mfh carpeting material from strada sports and they should be here soon. Thanks for looking and as always comments and critiques are welcome. Gray -

Alright, got some more work done tonight, not much, but it is to me. I got the front accessories mounted up and painted, and am working of finding a decal for those oil filters. Also seen in the pics are the distributors and they are wired, just need painting and they can be installed. I also cut out the front for the non-flip lights and the perspex panel that most countries except the US got on these cars. Thats all for tonight, if I get a moment between cutting grass and vacuuming tomorrow, i'll get some more work done. thanks for looking and as always comments and critiques are welcome -

Ismael, So far as I know I can order it, and have it shipped to the US, i'm not really sure what kind of paint it is, other than it is listed as acrylic and uses cellulose thinners(a uk term for lacquer?). Thats all I really know about it, except that several on Steve's forums swear by the stuff. Hope this helps. Gray -

I recently moved to North Wilkesboro, I know there are some folks around the area here. Plus I know you and Drew are over the border, hope to make it to a few car shows this summer, and maybe to a model show if one comes around close enough.. -

Ismael, if I paint it TDF Blue, i'll be using Zero Paints by Hiroboy, I'f Cobra Colors was still available then i'd get some of that. But from what i've heard the Zero Paints are very good, and he offers pretty much all the newer colors there are for Ferraris. I'm still not sure about color for this one though, once I get further into it i'll decide on the color(when I need to order the paint). If I feel I can do the white interior justice I'll do the TDF Blue, but right now, I know the silver with red interior will be alot easier. -
Hey guys, i've had this one for a long time, and recently got the urge to build it for a group build on another site. I was going to build it slightly custom since I didn't really like the targa roof thing. But now that I actually did some research on the real thing, I might build a mild "tuned" version of it. Differences of this kit to the regular Daytona Spyder(man fujimi really got it on this too) are different front and rear bumper wings, an extended trunk leading edge, and of course the targa roof. So far all i've done is basic engine work. The block is metalizer aluminum plate, with plasticote texture paint on the valve covers and heads with some bmf laid down beforehand for the Ferrari scripts(first time trying this) and tamiya red paint for the valve covers, and testors regular aluminum for some contrast on the heads. I'll get some more work done tomorrow night, but this will have some minor wiring and a custom ram air style induction system similar to one Carobu did on a 356 Coupe(www.carobu.com). The rear transaxle is done up with the texture paint and some metalizer stainless steel. (was trying out the super macro mode on the new camera) I was going to do this in Siver with a red/black interior and some 360 Modena seats with a t-bird style roadster deck lid, but now i'm thinking TDF Blue with white targa and white interior like the Pinninfarina Prototype i've seen pics of. I'm not sure though, because the silver car would be different..lol. For rolling stock i'm going to probably use the 360 Challenge Stradale wheels i've got with some resin lips I casted. As always comments and critiques are welcome, thanks Gray

Next project: "anti-cup of tea" Porsche Cayman S
Gray Smith replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I like it already and its only in primer, ever since getting to sit in one at a carshow not too long ago, and more recently this weekend at a local dealer(ferrari dealer at that) I've fallen in love with them, I like the fact that porsche designed the Cayman with light weight in mind instead of raw power...makes for a better balanced car to me, I'll be watching this one. Gray -
lovin the color man, makes me glad to know i've got some of this tucked away in my paint stocks, and great tip on the metalizer, wonder if it works with other colors/different wight pencil leads.... lets see some more progress! Gray

Looking good man, I like the contrast of the bar to the interior, great color choice on it. Keep up the good work man.. Gray

I'm using the red stuff from bondo that you can buy at wally..not the best cause it shrinks some and is harder to feather, but its not bad, and dries very quickly. Hey Bill, where do you find the dynatron stuff? Gray

yep that they are, i got em from michaels, i've got some of the black ones shown and some shiney aluminum ones...3 bucks for a package of 100 they are kind of big though, for systems where the intake openings are closer the trumpets will need to be filed flat to get closer..
