  1. And while we're at it ... One that drags my nails across the chalkboard is the improper use of the term 'kit' or 'kits' when referring to completed models. If it is a package of unassembled parts, it is a kit. Once it is assembled, it is no longer a kit, it has become a model. Drives me nuts to hear someone refers to completed models as 'kits.' This past weekend we conducted a large model contest and show. A couple of overheard comments were, "Wow! Those are great looking kits." There were no kits anywhere in sight, but we did have a lot of great looking models on display. Its ... it's ... your ... you're ... kit ... model.

    Nice.
  3. Thanks, guys, for the kind words! I ... am ... exhausted. It was a SUPER show! Fifteenth Southwest Nationals! We hit an all-time high (for us) ... 260 entries. A wide variety of builds ~ everything from factory stock to big rigs, rods, customs, a batmobile, dioramas, race cars, police cars, trucks, truck/trailer combinations, boats, monster trucks, post-apocalyptic street fighters, and a couple of fire engines! You name it ... it was on the table somewhere. We even had a hand-carved, solid wood, 1/6 scale Mack AG stakebed truck! We had 1,139 people's choice ballots cast by spectators! A 12-year-old (former Make-n-Take customer) won "Best Junior" with a nice '56 Chevy. (There were 2800 1:1 entries outside.) Had a great time ... including a sell-out for the Revell Make-n-Take (we helped 125 kids build Revell '69 Camaros ... many of them building their first-ever model car). Plenty of great help from my friends in the local clubs, Moonlight Modelers and Cactus Car Modelers, without whom it couldn't be done!!! I'll try to load some pix tomorrow. Did I mention ... I'm ... exhausted!
  4. Yes ... some did ... and no ... some didn't.
  5. Jim, It will. The more frequently you check new content, the shorter the list will be when you do. Good seeing you again last night!
  6. Very nice, G! PS: The "check's" in the mail. Look for it soon.
  7. And, don't forget the "View New Content" option at the upper right corner (above the "Follow This Topic" button). Try it ... you'll like it.

    Nice!
  10. Beautiful!
  11. AMEN. Dave, fer gawd's sake don't let them tool up those phoney bozo spotlights as shown on that "prototype" car. Those are unfunctional, inoperative fakes ... that car appears to be a cobbled up passenger car. Not unlike gluing a wing on a Dart and calling it an original Road Runner. Fender skirts on a police car? NOT. There are PLENTY of real '57 police car examples to emulate. And, there are many true experts available for consultation. Please relay to Dave ... don't get misled or the kit won't have credibility. Thanks!! Done correctly, this is fabulous news. The examples shown by James Duff (above) and Tom Sheehy are appropriate (in fact, the siren-light on the roof of Tom's pic is more period-correct for most agencies than the newly-emerging rotating beacons). The '57 Ford, like many '50s cars, had its spotlights routed through the fender and dashboard rather than the windshield pillar. (And, on that note, please make sure they include the interior portion of the spotlight shaft and the handle!) Done wrong ... oh, well. It can join the Barnabas Van in the annals of ... so what?
  12. We're having a contest at GoodGuys in Scottsdale TODAY and TOMORROW and you can build any kit you want ~ or as many kits as you want!
  13. Car Show Models? I thought you were talking about those hot chicks who stand around half-nekked and point to show cars.
  14. What Did You Get Today? Another day older and deeper in debt.
  15. Sweet. Beautifully sweeeeeeet!
  16. For Sale ~ Surplus baby blue police cars, low mileage ... VERY LOW mileage.
  17. AMT T310 was the early issue glue kit. 31811 was a reissue of the same kit. 8314 was a simplified snap kit. All good kits. My only issue (pardon the pun) with Monogram is their non-traditional scale ... in other words, I'm a bit of a scale bigot and prefer 1/25 to 1/24 ... all things being equal.
  18. AMT's '53 Vette is 1/25 scale, like all their kits since time began. Monogram's '53 Vette was advertised as 1/24. That kit dates back to the time when Monogram was trying to force-change the USA convention of 1/25-scale over to "world" convention of 1/24-scale. Didn't work out too well for them. Revell produced its domestic (North American) kits in 1/25-scale. When they merged, they adopted an approach of Monogram producing 1/24 kits and Revell producing 1/25 kits. When they reissue old kits (such as the '53 Vette), they sell them under the appropriate brand. That's the nutshell version.
  19. Neat!!
  20. Excellent.
