Promolite 1959 Ford Custom 300 2 Door Sedan
Danno replied to impcon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I fully agree with you on all counts, Gary! Tom's work is exceptional and has to be seen to be fully appreciated. -
The only VW available domestically that is manufactured in Germany is the Tiguan crossover. (It is also made in Russia, China, and Viet Nam!) The VW Jetta is made in Mexico. European versions are made in Germany. The VW Golf, GTI and GLI are made in Brazil. The VW EOS is made in Portugal. The VW Touareg is made in Slovakia. The VW 21st Century Beetle is made in Mexico. The VW Routan is made in Windsor, Canada with its Fiat/Chrysler siblings. My VW Passat, on the other hand, is made in Chattanoga, Tennessee. All of them are available in almost any community in the USA from a local dealer.

Happy Fourth of July!
Danno replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Happy Birthday, USA!! It's a great day to celebrate the freedom we and our ancestors have fought so hard to achieve! Here's hoping it's not the last Fourth of July we'll be allowed to celebrate freedom and the United States of America's birthday! -
Hey! That thing's got no windshield!

First car model: 7. It was the infamous AMT/Revell '56 Chrysler customizing kit ... first issue ... when new. Used a whole tube of glue to slap it together in a hotel room at the McLellan Hotel in downtown Wichita while there on a few days' vacation with the parental units. I glued EVERY part, EVERY custom accessory on it! Like I said ... I was hooked. I had been building planes and boats since 5, but when that car model came along, I was hooked! Been building cars ever since ... and I even have one of the reissued '56 Chrysler kits in my stash. One of these days ...

Missing Link 1969-1975 Dodge Hubcaps
Danno replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Early '74 caps looked the same but did not have The "ventilated" caps were put into production on the late '74 police package with 440 Magnum engine. Only. All '75-on Magnums had the "ventilated" caps, while '75 - '76 lesser engined police package cars got the same non-ventilated caps that regular production cars got. Then in '77 and on, all police packages got the "ventilated" (or "vented," for short) caps. The holes were originally a fix for a serious problem, not for decoration. The police package 440 Magnums were so heavy and hot (both ways) they just fried the front hubs until a Chrysler Corp engineer/hot rodder came up with the solution! Wheel failures were a big problem until the "drilled" or "ventilated" caps came along. Those 18 holes in the hubcap cooled the wheel centers and brakes just enough. Initially, they only put the ventilated caps on the 440s, but later they decided to simplify the assembly lines by not using different caps for different engines. These were police car caps only, but someone said they turned up on regular production cars later in the 80's. I don't know about that. I only ever saw them on police cars until the rodders picked up on them after they were out of production. To my knowledge, no one has offered the vented caps in 1/24-1/25. Has anyone? -

There's your problem. If you're only getting your testes from your local government. -
Wholey Carp, G! I forgot you had a niece in CSprings. Unfreakinbelieveable pix. It's all so unimagineable. For my entire 21-1/2 years as a firefighter in Manitou Springs and Black Forest and El Paso County, we always harped on fire defense and preparedness in the wildland-urban interface. We always said, "It's not a matter of 'if' ... it's a matter of 'when.' Well, this is 'when.' But this fire is far more horrorific and unimagineable than we ever dared to fear. The small mountain town where my grandparents lived and my grandfather was town marshal for 20 years ... and where I served as town marshal 20 years after his death ... is threatened, evacuated, and praying the monster goes away. The first neighborhood threatened by this fire days ago - Cedar Heights - was in my backyard. This fire burned to within 2.3 miles of my family's longtime home in Manitou Springs before changing winds drove it back. The area depicted in your niece's photos was largely undeveloped forest and wildland when I first arrived in Colorado Springs. I was internal security for a huge developer that built the first large apartment complex near the Air Force Academy. Later, as a sheriff's deputy, then supervisor, then detective, I watched that entire area build up - including Chapel Hills Mall where the second photo was taken - and watched as all those Mountain Shadows, Flying W Ranch, Woodmen Valley, Rockrimmon developments were built. I hate watching them burn down. I don't want to see the devastation. It just plain hurts. But my heart still pumps fire retardant. It kills me to be on the sidelines 800 miles away unable to help or contribute. I watch the internet constantly ... I follow the blogs and the updates ... I see old friends featured, interviewed, or just glimpsed as they work their fannies off to save a little of my home town, the forests my family and friends and I love. My heart aches for the many friends and acquaintances affected by this fire.

My old stomping grounds. I've been glued to the firemaps and incident blogs for five days now. My old neighborhood has been evacuated, allowed to return and under new re-evacuation prep orders again. I've been in every one of these developments, neighborhoods and forest areas hundreds of times. In fact, I watched this neighborhood being built and know or once knew many people who live there ... It just breaks the heart to see ...
