Nice looking Beep-Beep.

Once again, Bluesman hits the target dead-on. Unfortunately, parts kits are losers (business-wise) despite their attractiveness as a concept. Unlikely to change. The resin aftermarket will continue to be the most viable source for individual or small quantity parts sourcing. And that's probably very good.

That's beautiful! Only the chromed-plastic look of the headlamps gives it away as a scale model. One question: Is this a box art model? Perchance? Ahem.

Nice. Good work on the cab lettering and logos.

Nice!

Brian, Just don't sand the metallic ... it will ruin the metallic effect. Put three or four coats of clear over your metallic and then sand the clear ... be careful to not burn through the clear into the metallic or all the way through the color coat on peaks or edges. It's tricky the first couple of times, but you'll pick it up with practice. You'll find that 3200 or 3600 grit (polishing kit) will knock down the big "hills" and then progress through 4000, 6000, 8000 and finish up with 12000. Then polish it out with a fine polish and swirl remover and you'll be amazed when you wax it! It's best to use non-silicon products so you can paint over it if you have to touch up any burn-throughs. I prefer Maguires, but there are other good products and its seems to be a matter of personal choice. Good luck!

Those "Hemi" billboards on the rear flanks look bad ... kinda like a 400 lb woman wearing white spandex leotards. -

I've had that experience. Usually, there's enough difference in the parts or parts trees that you can study the instructions carefully and sort them out appropriately. If not, you may have to resort to my tried and true method: buy another of one of the kits and compare the new kit's parts to the jumbled parts! The extra bonus is that you now get to build another of one of the trucks. The above advice is free, and worth every dollar of its price! -
I really knew it!

Outstanding, Lyle! (Great to see you back.)

'68. Many "happy days" spent sneaking off campus for lunch at Jack's ... and cruisin' Sandy's (before it was Hardee's); Riverside Park; Oak Park; and, then, of course ... draggin' Douglass!

Gator, We all miss him already. Deepest, most hearfelt sympathies and condolences to you and your family. Thanks so very much for sharing your brother with us! My prayers and those of many, many others are with you during this difficult time. On another note, please allow me echo the suggestion that Jerry's track diorama/photo backdrop be donated or loaned to the International Model Car Builder's Museum so that it can be displayed and honored as a permanent tribute to Jerry's very inspiring talent. Godspeed and God Bless, Jackie!

Best way to strip a model

Yeah, this thread didn't turn out to be what I expected when I saw the topic line. -
Cool! Makes me 3 years younger than your dad. Yikes! I went to Roosevelt Elementary School. Well, probably time to quit high-jacking the thread. Back to the original topic: I'm a native Kansan but not anywhere close enough to be in any sunflower clubs! Best to all y'all Jayhawkers!

The Dairy Queen, if I recall, was located right by the town's water tower, at the north end of Main Street, across from the high school. If that's correct, that Dairy Queen was originally an A&W Root Beer drive-in called Chet's in the 50's. I remember it well. There was nothing in the world like a frosted 5cent mug of A&W! The car hops must have been pretty good; I was a little kid but I remember my dad thought they were great! LOL. I bought all the '58 and '59 AMT and SMP annuals at the Rexall Drug Store at 1st Street and Main. Always exciting to run into the Rexall to see what new model car kits had arrived! Concrete Main Street? You're right; not the same. Do they still do the Labor Day Celebration and Carnival down town?

It is a small world! Left Hoisington in 1959; my dad bought all his Chevys at Manweiler Chevrolet in Hoisington ... always from one salesman. As a kid, I thought he was the greatest guy in the world (next to dad) with the best job ever! In 1975, I walked into a Chevy dealer in Colorado Springs and discovered the same guy selling Chevys there! He had retired to Colorado, then got bored and went back to what he loved most. I bought two new Chevys from him there ... before he retired again. Haven't been back to Hoisington area since mid-80's. I feel the need for a Kansas vacation, but it's not likely soon. Best regards,

Originally from Kansas; born in Topeka, toddler in Salina, first 10 in Hoisington, 10-21 in Wichita (North HS, WSU); then on to Colorado; later AZ. Any of that count? LOL.

Thanks, Marty! Yep! Those last few photos show the great ones! The kids who participated in Revell's Make-N-Take had a terrific time! Look at those faces! They loved it. For many, it was the very first model car kit they had ever built. And, the fact that mom/dad/both were there and worked on it with them was extra special. The white pedal car story is priceless. That old white pedal car (complete with seat belt equipped "rumble seat" in the back for a favorite doll), was modified with the pull handle. A sweet little 3-year old young lady was enjoying the GoodGuys show from the comfort of her pedal car (being "driven" by dad). She got real excited when she saw the other pedal cars on display and told dad she wanted her pedal car to be entered in the contest and displayed ... just like his car! (Dad had a 1:1 hot rod entered in the show outside.) So, she eagerly climbed out of her pedal car and was thrilled when dad filled out the registration form and put her car on the display table! She (and mom, or dad, or grandpa) came by the Model Car and Pedal Car Show a couple more times during the weekend ... just to "check" on her car! She was even more thrilled on Sunday when her pedal car came back to her ... with a special "Awesome" ribbon we sneaked out overnight and bought just for her.
