  1. Color, paint, decalling, and finish are terrific!!! Can't say the wheels work, though. But, I'm a purist; donky wheels don't belong on older cars as far as I'm concerned. But it's your model and it's a beautiful one at that! Good job.
  2. Where's the "01" and the flag?
  3. Thanks, Brian! Brian wasn't one of my 'official' photographers but he got the good shots and he got them "up" quickly ... those are the important things! (But he forgot the pedal cars! LOL.) We had close to 2,000 ballots cast by spectators and competitors (only one each)! We had 230+ kids for Revell's Make-N-Take (not counting the "kids" from Moonlight Modelers who acted as helpers and advisers to the participating kids). My thanks to the Moonlight Modelers who helped us put on this event: Dale Mickley, Renee Kallen, Harold Oswald, Bernie Kankiewicz, Chuck Granger, Tom Neu, Marty Coffel, and Toby Dockstader. Huge thanks also to those club members who came in to help with the Revell Make-N-Take: Dan Doane, Lanny Haas, Bill "Scotty" Scott, Brian Wiltbank, and Milt Sullivan. And, of course, the Lovely and Gracious Mrs. B, who helps out all year long with the preparations and presentations of both the Southwest Nationals and the Spring Nationals! Dan
  4. I had two photographers and a videographer there. Haven't received any of the pix yet; one of the photographers is resting/recovering (ran him ragged), the other is pouting (something about Jimmie Johnson), and the videographer is editing. As soon as I get some pix, I'll post them. Thanks for your patience!
  5. Well, since the cover was just printed within the last couple of weeks, I'd guess it's new. So now the magazine is going to be available at Barney No-Bell's, right?
  6. Uhh, ... mine has a UPC bar code on the front. Hmmmmmm ... that's new!
  7. Lanny Haas brought three dioramas to the GoodGuys 13th Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale lask weekend. He took home the Peoples Choice award and two "TOP 12" awards, one for each of his other dioramas. Here are some pix of the Peoples Choice winner: More at Lanny's Fotki page: RD Auto Salvage diorama Fully 26% of the nearly 2,000 Peoples Choice ballots were cast for this diorama!! Congratulations, Lanny! It was stunning. Dan
  8. Jairus has it right. Wood tones also depended largely on manufacturer and year (originally), but restorers have been known to use various tones in their restorations. Then, too, hot rod woodies (not strict factory original restorations) often display tones 'tweaked' to better compliment the body colors. Earlier factory Fords, such as my '30 Woody model, were lighter hued. After the war, extra 'fashion' was achieved by introducing darker panels, such as these '48s.
  9. The 13th Southwest Nationals Model Car and Pedal Car Show at Scottsdale was a huge success. We had more entries than ever before and a phenominal number of spectators cast ballots for their favorite entries! Brian scored two of the "TOP 12 PICKS" awards with his Ecto-1A and his post-apocalyptic Sub-Urban. Another regular poster on this forum, Marty "Martay" AKA Tuff-120, scored another of the "TOP 12 PICKS" awards with his 1989 Batmobile. The PEOPLES CHOICE award went to the absolutely incredible junkyard diorama by Lanny Haas. BEST OF SHOW award went to another diorama, a racetrack creation by Cody Snyder. BEST PEDAL CAR award was captured by restored Firefighter by Walt Pocock. BEST JUNIOR award went to Billy Strahan (13 years of age) for his '66 Chevelle station wagon. More official results, and photos, later. Many thanks to everyone who helped put on the show! Dan
  10. Tom, Brian, With the support from guys like you, we can't go wrong! I was out at Westworld today, setting up. This is shaping up to be the biggest and best Southwest Nationals ever! Thanks for your efforts. See you tomorrow and Saturday and Sunday!
  11. Asked and answered; 18 minutes. How about that for great customer service???
  12. Go to Radio Shack and look for their 'winding wire' ... it is single strand, coated with thin plastic. It holds shape well and the white insulated can be easily painted or colored with Sharpie markers in any color desired. In addition to your need, I often strip the insulation and use the single conductor for things like bungee cords (just paint it as desired) or microphone cords (coil it around a straight pin shaft) or any number of small guage wires, brake lines, fuel lines, etc. The insulator can be used as small hose (flexible fuel lines, etc.) or spark plug boots. A package of three spools will last nearly forever. It's great stuff ...
  13. Same, same. Full strength and it doesn't seem to matter (in my experience) whether you're using the WalMart housebrand version (PurplePower) or the full $$ Super Clean version, they both work great. Length of time in the purple pond doesn't seem to matter, but as it gets older it seems to take a little longer. You can tell it's time to change if your purple pond seems slightly cloudy or sludge-y. It also works great for stripping chrome. Much less slimey than brake fluid, much less stinky and hazardous than oven cleaner, and much easier to use (just rinse it, no serious scrubbing necessary) both. Ten thumbs up for purpleness!
  14. Or a house payment. Silly.
  15. That's cool! Triple Trouble! Nice work on all three, Crankster!
  16. Very nice, Zoli!
  17. Probably true!!
  18. Awesome, Tom! Be sure to have the grandson there for the Revell Make-N-Take! (11am Sunday - 1pm Saturday) See you this weekend.
  19. Oh, wow! This just keeps getting better and better ...
  20. If Tamiya's putting sponsorship on the car, pretty good bet there'll be a kit! Good eye.
  21. Brilliant! What an idea guy!
  22. Aw, c'mon! Obviously you've forgotten Smokey Yunick who fielded a '66 Chevelle right off the showroom floor ... after he washed it in hot water and put it in the dryer on the 'high heat' setting. There was never a more "stock" stocker than Smokey's "little" Chevelle!!!!
  23. That's a GREAT feature (the disk with reference photos & assembly/painting instructions)! Good for you! Hopefully, other aftermarket resin purveyors will follow your lead!
  24. Kewl.
